I used to find mustaches ugly, like face breaking ugly. Then a few years ago they became trendy and I started seeing them more and more. I didn't like it at all, but still, over time I came to view them more neutrally. A couple of years passed at some point I realised I think they're hot, which blew my mind a little.

Which makes me wonder, how much of what we find attractive is just conditioned by exposure?

To continue a thought I had in a response below, why don't more men who struggle with dating gothmaxx?

The goth scene is one of the few contexts where men can use makeup to enhance their looks without being assumed to be gay, plus being neurodivergent can actually be leveraged for "freak cred" if you play your cards right.

I keep seeing posts asserting that people generally "date wiithin their league" at least physically, to men who complain they can't get their looksmatch.

the reason why a lot of men are so frustrated about this is that the attributes that make a man attractive physically are often different vs the attributes that make a women attractive physically. furthemore, the attributes that make a women attractive are relatively changeable wheres they are not for men.

Examples:

1) A short guy with a great physique is in a "lower league" than short women with a great physique. this is because the shortness kills the man's atttractiveness overall

2) An average faced man is believe it or not, often in a lower league than an average faced women (yes, really). this is because generally women are more facially attractive than men and can use makeup to improve their looks.

3) A tall overweight man with an average face is probably at the same league as a normal weight women with an average face. this is because tallness and presence is a HUGE influence on attractiveness of a man. A ripped short guy with an average face is probably on the same league as a normal/overweight woman with an average face.

I find it really interesting that if a Guy complains about only getting interest from women who are not on his looks level people usually tell him that's his league but when a woman complains about getting only interest from ugly men and guys they think are below them in looks no one tells them that's their league. What is the reason behind this double standard 🤔 . Women complain about this lot more. Shouldn't they be also told the same?

Hi I think I'm above average looking (6'2" 185 pounds, lifting regularly and making progress, great diet) but I don't get any interest from women besides obese ones on dating apps. That seems inline with other men's experiences, I think that the market is heavily in women's favor right now and a lot of guys that look like me probably are hooking up with obese women (though what's odd is there aren't even any non-obese women looking at me as a potential long term partner, I make good money and have a prestigious job, though I guess those women all have better options too).

Anyway I'm considering getting some cosmetic surgeries and doing steroids to try to get "hot". Anyone done anything similar?

One of the more subtle indicators that your looks are holding you back is if it's easy to flirt with non-single women, but almost impossible to flirt with single women.

If you are witty, if the conversations "flows" talking with a women - but it's almost always only with married/taken women, this indicates that the single women are "preventing" chemistry/banter from occuring because they are not attracted to your looks.

This indicates you actually have a good personality/ability to flirt (since the taken women do it with you) and looks is likely your problem.

There's a close friend of my ex whom I didn't even recognize at all at first, who's recently appeared on my Facebook suggested friends. He's tall with a great frame but last I saw him, he had acne and glasses and a boyish haircut

I've never ever remotely considered him within the realm of fuckable, he's always been my ex's dorky friend

But it's amazing how clearing his skin; losing the glasses; and getting a different haircut has actually made him kinda fuckable. Like Janie from Not Another Teen Movie, but I didn't think that shit happened in real life

This is all very upsetting, because he's still a massive fucking dork. I don't think men should be allowed to deceive unsuspecting women in this manner. Your outside needs to reflect the inside so that women can make an informed choice wrt your fuckability

Isn't it curious how the most recent and still ongoing gym craze among men started pretty much the same moment (mobile) online dating became popular, i.e. late 00s/early 10s? And that it has been going on without a hitch for more than 10 years now, even through Covid?

Before that, weight lifting used to be a niche sport, save for some very limited, very short-lived popularity spikes due to celebs/movie stars (e.g. Schwarzenegger).

I think we can all be real: if you never experienced dating success in your 20s but suddenly find it in your 30s you were never attractive. When a woman’s looks fade they will go for another unattractive man to provide for her. I’m 24 and have never had a girlfriend and worried this will be my fate.
