if there is solid evidence of the deception and it results in bodily or financial harm, i feel there should be an avenue for retribution. but realistically i think in most cases it’d be a nightmare to try to prove, and i don’t really trust the legal system.

This is one of those things where the details absolutely matter. There's a difference between a lie that can inflict real-world material consequences on the other party, and a lie that results in wounded pride and regret. So on one end you have someone lying about not having AIDS, and on the other extreme you have a woman wearing makeup or a man faking his confidence and personality on a first date.

condom use/stealthing -baby
who you're having sex with (so you shouldn't be switching out)

I was inspired to make this post after seeing a post on another subreddit where a guy was complaining about being a father. The woman he was with lied to him and said she couldn't have children, he ends up having unprotected sex with her, she gets pregnant and keeps the child.

Can he prove that she lied and that she always knew she was fertile? There are cases where infertile women have miracle babies. Also, were they at least dating? You shouldn't be raw-dogging a woman you barely know.

A woman named in NYC is claiming that this should be the case. For her she met a guy in a bar who told her that he was Jewish, single and had a degree from NYU.

That's dumb. No.

Also, lying to get sex is already a punishable offense depending on the context. Like STDs.

If men should be prosecuted for lying about sex, then women should be prosecuted for:

--lying about their physical appearances

--using outdated photos on OLD sites

--any misrepresentations on their OLD profiles: using photos with misleading or distorted camera angles, calling themselves "curvy" when they're in fact obese; calling themselves BBWs when they're in fact morbidly obese

--lying about their relationship and/or parental status

--making any misrepresentation of material fact (N, debt, number of baby daddies, educational status, cup size)

The legal system is horrible at dealing with this kind of stuff. That said, these days it may be all we have.

I think purposely deceiving someone about making a baby, when it results in an unwanted baby, maybe should be a crime. But there will have to be a high bar for proof. Even then, when you get into the logistics, it's complicated. The law tends to put the baby's interest first. So if a man says he is infertile and so no birth control is used and the woman gets pregnant, what is the law gonna do? Same if a woman swears she is on the pill, but isn't.

If there is an abortion, then there isn't enough injury to really justify criminal penalties. If there is a baby, then it's not clear that criminalizing one of its parents for making that baby is gonna help that child in life haha

All the other stuff, though unfortunate, just doesn't rise to the same level.

But both of the examples above probably isn't enough to justify sexual assault since it's just too muddy and hard to prove. I think you can be charged for passing on AIDS or something right now.

It does not.. Still, it's ok, let's prosecute.. As long as we hold both sexes accountable to the same extent, so be it. It is sucks when someone lies to you, so it's understandable if you are pissed, but people lie, men just as much as women. There won't be equality on this field either though, just as there isn't right now. (Men are sentenced far harsher for the exact same crimes...) My concern is for children brought about by these circumstances- like a baby that a woman intentionally has after being told that the allegedly rich father will provide for them and be loyal to them. But then, daddy ends up being a cheating deadbeat and it's much too late to protect the child from existence with severe parental trauma. I don't categorize this as assault unless STD's are involved, but I do consider it child neglect and it should be punished far more than it is. Same for a woman who intentionally brings a baby into this world where the father already doesn't want it, I mean, you're already setting up that child with an emotional complex for life. Throw her in a psych ward; take the baby to be raised with someone who has better judgment. But that assumes people are willing to help... and idk about that... so perhaps as long as adults are flawed, we can't prevent children from suffering, unfortunately.

It depends on the lie if somebody lies about having a sexually transmitted disease, then yes that person should be prosecuted, if somebody lies about liking it rough and then they go to the police and say that they were graped, I'd say that's a pretty serious lie that deserves legal involvement. In the case of lying about being on contraceptives I would say yes but honestly in all three of those scenarios that I laid out outside of the documentation of the STDs it's so hard to prove

Now if you're just lying about what you do to a chick at the club one night like maybe you tell her your an engineer but you work at the gas station, no lol, even though I'm no fan of high levels of deception to get sex because if we start going down this route we're going to have to start getting the wall system involved even more when it comes to True marriage intentions lol
