Men who see escorts are judged because of the underlying notion that men who don't have success with the opposite sex are losers. If we dismantled that notion, men would by consequence, stop receiving judgement for seeing escorts.

Sure, plenty of people hold subjective opinions that they don't openly voice for one reason or another. Sure, perhaps this is one of those things people quietly accept but publicly don't.

For myself, I have strong negative opinions about prostitution. For people who are sellers, and especially so for buyers. No matter how much people admitted to it, I would never change my opinion on it.

For something to be normalized it'd have to be an opinion held by the majority. In this hypothetical, it all depends on if there are more people like him, then there are people like me.

If a prostitute has the choice between prostitution or getting evicted/not eating, are they really able to consent? They’re in a situation where they don’t have much of an option.

Yes, based on looking into cultures in East and South-East Asia.

In parts of East and South-East Asia, men talk about it openly with each other, even going in groups together to whore houses.

Foreigners who visit Thailand are notorious for openly using prostitutes, there are many guys on youtube who openly talk about it and it's not considered shameful in Thailand for men to use prostitutes.

IIRC prostitution or adjacent businesses are normalized in japan, but that also comes with the implicit understanding that men in relationships aren't going to be with their wives much as a rule for cultural reasons. You also saw this in europe up to like the 19th century but a lot of the literature on historic european relationships make it clear not a lot of people were marrying based on attraction.

Which I think is the actual dynamic that needs to be discussed. In societies where prostitution is normalized its usually because finding a willing partner is stigmatized or difficult in some way. I don't think we live in that culture but a fair amount of women* in this specific sub* have the opinion that if a woman doesn't want sex with you you should just not have sex.

I don't think it really works that way. The more barriers there are to having sex the more workarounds there will be. Prostitution is legal in my city and a lot of people who work long hours or have difficult home lives will use those services. The expectation that they would spent what little free time they have trying to do things the "right" way obviously isn't working out, and if there's a service where they'll just bypass that for money a lot of them just do that.

There's stigma on both sides. Both the sex workers and the customers are shamed by a culture that knows sex is a thing but will shame people for having it under circumstances they don't approve of.

If we want sex work to become accepted, 2 things need to happen.

Legalize it and treat it just like any other occupation.
Stop stigmatizing the workers and the customers. And it has to be both. You can't expect to desrigmatize 1 while still shaming the other and think it's gonna work out.

Most people find the thought of paying someone to pretend to like you a little repulsive, I don't think that will change if people talk about it more.

But I don't see why it needs to be talked about anyway. I don't announce it to my friends every time I have sex with my girlfriend. If two consenting adults want to exchange sex for money, thats none of my business, and I think it should be legal for them to do so.

But 1) women have always hated prostitution throughout history (be it because they see hookers as rivals or, more recently, because they may sometimes lower their "prize"), and 2) since the sexual revolution, men as well have become convinced (I'd say: scamed) that paying for sex is for "losers", so A) nobody wants to be seen as such, and B) those who indeed are good ad casual sex are interested in keeping the stigma to keep their "status".

So no, it won't be normalized anytime soon. Although, deep down, most men know it is quite natural and will use it anyway.

Prostitution would be more accepted if we weren't all under the constant threat of starvation in case we fail to pay our monthly subscription for survival. I would have way less of a problem with sex work in circumstances where I could reasonably assume that this person is mentally sound, has countless other options for getting a decent level of living, and just wants to do this kind of work, not another one. In all other cases, it always feels a lot like coercion, and it's bad enough when it's about a normal job, one without having dozens of dicks going in and out of your body.

If we would still have some, I don't know, hypersexual people doing sex work in pretty much absolute financial freedom, they could serve all the autist guys from the whole world, you do you, queen.

Even in such case, I would never ever date guys like these though. Personal preference. I don't like mixing my sex with cash, it's bad for fucking.
