Just to add to your HSV-2 stats, women are twice as likely to carry HSV-2 than men so the statistics are more like 1 in 5 for women and 1 in 8 for men. Also as it's a lifelong infection the 1 in 5 is reached around late 20's/early 30's, 1 in 4 by mid/late 30's and 1 in 3 for people in their 40's. Also higher in the unmarried population than the general population.

So many people seems to think that genital herpes is uncommon its not funny.

Herpes has a huge stigma, mostly from the TV commercials in the 90s, I believe. I caught a strain from kissing a girl. I haven't been tested yet but I plan on it once I get out of monk mode. When I confronted the girl about it she told me she thought it "wasn't a big deal" to get cold sores. I was pissed off and I'm still pissed off about it.

STDs have long been a huge phobia of mine and are what I consider to be the biggest hindrance towards my progression down the red pill path. I have a low partner count not necessarily from lack of success with women but as a result of my terrible anxiety when it comes to STDs. I'll probably get downvoted for this (and as far as I know, I don't have it myself, but it is certainly possible), but herpes is not a big deal. At all. In fact, you almost certainly had HSV-1 (which can be, but isn't as often genital - it usually infects the lips) before contractng HSV-2. You say 50%, but I've seen estimates of 80%-90% as well. Hell, if the rash on your junk is herpes, it easily could be HSV-1 from a girl that gave you a blowjob.

The vast majority of people are asymptomatic, if you have sex with more than about 5 partners you should pretty much assume you have a good chance of having it/have been exposed to it, and STD tests do not catch it unless you pay for a very expensive one.

For people who are symptomatic, typically the symptoms go away between 2-4 breakouts (which is not the horrorific rash people typically mention, but maybe a slightly itchy, tiny bump), and just don't come back unless you have a weak immune system (very elderly, or let's say you went for weeks with low sleep and tons of stress on a major project).

As far as I can tell, accusations of herpes are mostly ways for girls to keep other girls in line. The only reason it is, "scary" is because it's "uncurable" - because tiny viral reservoirs can exist in your body - your "viral load", to use an HIV term can be basically completely nil, with no chance of infection for anyone, and you've still got "herpes".

You probably also have HPV (and if you don't, you likely will).

Getting minor STDs is a risk you take when you decide to play this game. This is really not a big deal.

This will probably be hated advice but here it is:

Neither men nor women get tested for herpes. It isn't a big deal (compared to the freakout), most people have some form of it (HSV-1 can be genital, and HSV-2 can be on your lips, they're just more common in the other location), doctor's know that, hence the lack of testing for it (and the fact that it's expensive). Everyone acts like it is a big deal, but nobody truly cares. Getting yourself tested and disclosing your, "status", like an HIV patient basically plays you like a fool. You'll just end up scaring girls away from you who will then hook up with guys that have probably a near-equal chance of having herpes (which is going to be the men who have the most partners and who are the most sexually active - i.e. Chad Thundercock).

So if you want to reduce your sex life to shit, while not reducing the risk for anyone around you, go ahead and tell every girl you'd otherwise fuck, have them run away to fuck Herpes Chad, and only fuck girls on herpes websites (think about the caliber of a girl that is defined by her herpes - that's her thing. A normal girl would hamster it away or far more likely, just not get tested).

Otherwise, this is not a big deal. Don't fuck a girl while you're symptomatic (which I can't imagine would be pleasant anyway), and wait until your symptoms go latent, at which point your chance of infecting someone (with what is probably an asymptomatic virus) is virtually zero. They should mostly be cleared up within a year or two at the absolute worst.

Herpes is not a big deal. I got it as a kid from being kissed by my grandma.

It's rampant enough and the symptoms harmless enough that the energy it takes to avoid it is not worth it.

I get a cold sore on my lip like once a year or two. Half the time I notice it put some zovirax on it and it goes away. Otherwise it's like a bad pimple that lasts a few days. Omfg, kill me. What a big deal.

The stigma around STD's is mostly bullshit. If you want to pretend you're in a higher class than humans with them.. then have fun fretting about it. In general, it's a tiny nuisance and more than worth being able to relax about having sex with people.

HIV is another matter of course.. but is mostly irrelevant as it's generally communicated through homosexual sex.

I had one other STD which was genital warts. I got some, had some frozen off, and then they stopped coming. Since (6 or 7 years), I haven't had anything. These things tend to go away most of the time.

Protip: For the love of God avoid Arginine when you have an outbreak. Instead target foods with high lysine content. Trust me you'll thank me.

I was taking an arginine supplement and (I eventually found out) was eating a rather high arginine diet. I had an outbreak (hsv1) and it was the worst. Lasted for weeks before i figured out the damn arginine was the problem.

Arginine is basically herpes candy, Lysine on the other hand supposedly helps kill them off. (Have not yet tested Lysine but will next time, my outbreaks are very few and far between.)

More than 70% of people in the US have it. Most get seasonal cold sores on the lips one or two times and then it's gone. As time goes on, outbreaks become less frequent. Granted, an outbreak on the dick/vag is way worse than a cold sore.

When you're not having an outbreak, I wouldn't worry about it. I had a scare from a girl who I banged twice. She texted me that she had a coldsore on her mouth and she recently gave me head. Consider L-Lysine pills, they are the antagonist (increasing one lowers the other) of L-Arginin which the virus uses as essential building block to replicate.* L-Lysine is a ammino acid, so there is practically no overdose which means you can lower L-Arginin to the very minimum.

This is also a way to lower the risk of prevention (like condoms) if you spin plates, but for this to be effective you need much higher dose (3-5x) than the nutrient recommandation on the bottle for "normal use" to make sure you start "L-Arginin" level when the virus hits your body is really low - In this context I am also highlyyy recommanding HPV immunization also for men!!!

*Same approach with using HIV medications (protease inhibitor) as prophylaxis, but this quite over the top if you are not surrounded by it.

I have a good friend who is a high demand dermatologist with a very unique specialty. People come from all over the world to see him. He specializes in treating people with STD's. He does a lot of reconstructive plastic surgery on genitalia. The reason is that STD's can often be very disfiguring.

He has shown me photo's of people with genital warts that look like cauliflower the size of a small fist in their vagina, or penises that look....well.....like some monster out of a horror show. Just take a few minutes and google around for pictures of genital warts and herpes.

He told me that at least 60% of the adult population has either some form of herpes and or genital warts.

Another thing he mentioned is the futility of using condoms to prevent herpes or genital warts.

He sees a LOT of people that don't have genital warts on their penises, but have it on their pubic area or other areas. What these people didn't realize was that the areas of their bodies that was rubbing skin together (think lower abdomen, thighs, etc.) were unprotected. They end up getting herpes or genital warts in these areas.

In the end, he said that if you have sex with more than 2 people (especially if those two people are or have been sexually active), you have almost certainly been exposed to an STD.

Anyone here on their moral high ground, if you really don't want to be a hypocrite, go get tested for HSV-1 (spoiler alert: you probably have it). If you test positive, don't kiss anyone or share a drink without first warning them of the risks. If you're not willing to do that, shut the fuck up about HSV-2. HSV-1 is technically more dangerous (something about possible eye infections), but neither is a big deal medically. The social stigma is the worst part, so just avoid that by keeping it to yourself. Everyone else does anyway.

Dude. Don't just jump to conclusions. Talk to your doc and see what he is saying and if you actually have anything. If in doubt do another test, with another doc / lab. Tell them specifically you want to be screened for HSV-1 and HSV-2. Most docs don't even care for it... Talk to your doc about getting a full STD test, you may have to pay a bit extra but it's worth it. Do it.

I know of a couple people infected, one is a rather close friend who confided in me. He gave an interesting outlook, because I thought people had this rash or whatever always or frequently. First, he stopped telling people he explained and never had a reoccurring outbreak and has not had an issue, I guess I am unsure of this part but I'm not in there shoes. He also said how people will make out with total strangers, but not second guess getting herpes, so why with sex? And also said it hasn't effected his life at all except the whatever months he felt like a outcast initially. So, I guess I just want to tell you it's okay, everyday life should be the same, and don't necessarily lower your own value. Obviously someone didn't know or didn't tell you, and that's not your fault. I just feel bad because my buddy told me how he was really depressed and I always like to mention those few things. I have hsv-1. Got it from my current girlfriend. So it goes. Had my first outbreak during finals week this past semester. Went to the doctor, got a culture, and came back positive. They say blood tests aren't very accurate for either type of herpes and that the only surefire way to know is to swab a sore and test it. Both types are basically the same, but type 2 is just more aggressive. It's really not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Haven't had an outbreak since. They're rare. Relax and keep banging slags.

Edit: and yes, you can get both types on your genitals or on your face. Luckily, I have type 1 on my pork sword and its rare to get both types.

Did you get an IgG test? If not, do so for both HSV-1 and HSV-2. You have to wait for at least 4 months post-exposure before these are accurate. If you did an IgM test, these are known to have false positives and there are no HSV-1/HSV-2 differentiators, so it's a pretty useless and shitty test.
Did you have symptoms and have them swabbed?

I ask these because, even if you asked for a full STD panel, it doesn't guarantee they did the IgG testing, which is imperative. Doctors still don't test appropriately.

Another aspect of HSV that most people don't realize is that with the increase in oral sex, there is also an increase in prevalence of HSV-1 on the genital region and HSV-2 on the trigeminal/facial region. As someone who has worked in a clinical scenario where HSV1/2 titers were tested regularly on married and unmarried men and woman of all ages, I can tell you that most people (<80%) have been exposed to HSV-1 which shows positive on their bloodwork, and about half of those have titers suggesting active recent infection.
