Studies vary, but according to Institute of Family Studies, 20% of men and 13% of women cheat. Interestingly, the rate is about the same with younger couples with increased cheating by men over time.

This doesn’t surprise me given how many men I know have said their wife either lost interest in sex over the years or tried to use it as leverage.

Statistically it's about as common as women cheating at about 20%. Which is about in line with what I have observed irl. So, far from all, but enough to be a valid fear. Usually when men cheat the relationship is already on the rocks and the sex is very infrequent. To cheat "on and off" in an 8 year relationship and decide to have a baby with the woman during this time is diabolical.

The “all men cheat” idea is too broad. Cheating is common enough that caution is understandable, but it still is not every man. Some men cheat, some men stay loyal, and some men will be honest upfront if they are not built for strict monogamy instead of pretending otherwise.

A better way to look at it is that different men handle temptation, opportunity, and commitment differently. Some men want one woman, family, peace, and stability. Some men want variety and should be honest about that instead of lying inside a relationship. The important part is not assuming every man is the same, but paying attention to character, self-control, values, consistency, and whether his actions match what he claims to believe.

So no, staying or leaving should not be based on the idea that “the next man will do the same thing.” It should be based on whether the current relationship can actually be trusted, repaired, and respected going forward.

My dad never cheated on my mom. I have never cheated on any of my gf. I think it runs in family/core values to be honest. A lot of women’s personalities I have met just give me the ick anyway… so that significantly narrows down my pool. If she was to upset me enough I would dump her before I could find someone else suitable to cheat. I have been single most of my life. My current gf I really love and her ex husband cheated on her. I am the first man she has ever felt safe with so I couldn’t do that to her.

I think people who cheat its a reflection on their character, moral compass, self control.

That book makes me think of other manosphere books that paint all women as terrible. I've looked at a few of them, like "The Manipulated Man" (basically a book that says that women collectively manipulate and control men for their benefit). It was written by a woman, by the way. It seemed rather toxic and unrealistic, so I didn't read very far into the book before deciding it wasn't worth finishing. There was another one I had started reading about some guy's terrible dating experiences with American Women so he became a passport bro. It also seemed kind of toxic and felt like he was being unfair in his characterization of women. Didn't finish that one, either, because he would make negative assumptions about what these women were thinking. Yeah, dating is hard in the US and I do think women have most of the control over the dating market, but they weren't as bad as that author was claiming.

Be careful what you read because toxic books are out there.

No, and while some people will say that it's tied to having options - it's not.
And cheater that cheats entire relationship is serial cheater - they cheat because they can.
And there is no real logic behind it:
It can be dead bedroom or not.
It can be dysfunctional relationship or not.

Sometimes there is a reason why person cheat, sometimes they cheat because why not.

Without having any real context or understanding of your relationship, all I can do is speak from the experience of myself and men I've known. And from that experience, what happens is you get into a dead bedroom or otherwise really inert relationship pattern where sexual chemistry and love is in such a dire state, that the only thing keeping you there is some rationalized belief that you're supposed to stick it out with someone no matter what. I personally remember being sort of pulled into breaking up with someone, and while in hindsight it was tempting considering how toxic that situation was, I knew then and know now that going outside a relationship instead of leaving it first is generally bad form. I never actually went through with it, but man are emotions and hormones raging sometimes.

It's often a bit more complicated than one person simply cheating on another. Not to justify or excuse cheating outside say, a fringe case where the man being cheated on is a serial abuser and doesn't really deserve to be broken up with "properly". I'm just aware that to this day, many people in relationships at different stages are absolutely "talking to" people outside the relationship all the time. Pretty much everyone I kow who's been commited for a long time admits to at least looking at other people, so it's not really a stretch that some of them are potentially just one bad argument or a few sexless months away from turning window shopping into a genuine impulse buy, so to speak.

As for mens specifically, I can say there's something to keeping us sexually occupied, to put it crudely. We're not really supposed to say it out loud, but guys like to be seduced, courted or even just feel desired by their wives. From what I've gathered from men I've spoken to in dead-bedroom marriages, they felt like their wives weren't attracted to them. And while there's definitely another side of that - where the lack of attraction could be a call-to-action for a guy to get his shit together and actually make himself more attractive to her - it's something to at least keep in mind, if for example, you're finding yourself turning down every advance he makes because you're "too tired" and not realizing what affect that has on the relationship dynamic, that sort of thing.

Sorry to hear. I don't know what personal advice to give you other than it's your choice but it shouldn't be made with a dark tinted lense. A quick search of the book makes me think you should throw it out the window.

Depending where you're from, as it varies per country, most men don't cheat. And the fact that it changes widely per country also means that there's many factors that make someone or don't make someone a cheater, meaning it can vary down to someone who doesn't cheat at all. It sucks that it can still be a significant portion of people, usually higher in men.

I'd also imagine that most men who stay faithful end up staying faithful mostly because they couldn't cheat if they wanted to.

I think the statistics about 10-20% of men having cheated in their lives is probably correct.

But speaking from experience with my social circle, this statistic probably follows all-time behavior, not recent one. I know a couple of people (both men and women) who cheated once while in college, but if you look at their history in the past 10 years, they didn't do it with their current partners. Do the current partners know of their past? no idea and it's not my place to ask.

So, yes the statistics are probably true as a lifetime behavior, but I would really be curious about statistics for recent (last 5+ years) behavior.

For women, cheating is mostly about them not getting everything they need in their current relationship. For men, cheating is mostly about having new opportunities that he didn't realize he had. Both these tendencies have been shown in research.

In the same way that a woman won't cheat if she's not missing anything in her relationship, a man won't cheat if he doesn't have the opportunity to. A reality of dating as a man that women don't understand typically is the amount of time and effort it takes for a man trying to date to find an opportunity. It's like a second job almost. For most men in relationships, he's not going to be doing that because he wants to be lazy. So the only thing you have to worry about is if a woman makes it easy for him and basically falls in his lap.

I have never cheated, and I know of very few men in my extended family and friends who have cheated. There is also evidence that women cheat just as much, if not more than men. The closest that I came to cheating on someone was my girlfriend in high school. She was very nonchalant with me. I thought that she didn't like me that much, and I thought that the relationship was about to end. Even then I didn't even cheat. I just got close to another girl. My relationship with my girlfriend did not end then, and so I disassociated myself from the other girl, and focused back on my girlfriend.

I was married before. During my marriage, I worked in a small office of men and women. There was this other girl who was roughly close to me in age. We really hit it off, but only as friends. Since we were the newer employees, we found ourselves needing help from each other. Also, the other employees were at least ten years older than us, so, socially, in the office, the two of us didn't have much in common with the other employees. We also socialized at office happy hours.

The only thing I remember (this was a long time ago) that may have been construed as me cheating with her was that I really like to hit golf balls at ranges. I don't like golf, but I love hitting golf balls and playing miniature golf. I'm weird like that. Well, at the time, she was taking golf lessons so that she could play golf with her boyfriend. My wife didn't much like outdoor activities, and her boyfriend was often not available, so we would hit golf balls at a range after work sometimes.

She was cute. Our topics of conversation were never anything salacious. We just acted goofy and joked around about stuff happening in our lives. If I actually wanted to cheat, it would have only required a little push, but I was married, and she had a boyfriend. I took that stuff seriously. So, there was definitely a force field that individually protected us.

What I'm trying to say is that your husband took vows. Those are the terms of the contract, and he pledge to fulfill them. He didn't. Ever. So, he obviously doesn't take promises very seriously. It is unfortunate, but you should probably leave him. It's not you. It's him. He's just a bad guy, and somehow kept that hidden from you all this time. I'm a Red Pill guy, so I am against any sort of no-fault divorce, but this is definitely a fault divorce.

Don't feel ashamed about it. It happens. If you do walk away, sure, it will be an adjustment, but it will be a relief, and your life could look completely different a year from now. The only consideration is the child. Maybe stick it out for a bit longer, until the child is no longer a baby.

This is not your fault.

Anyway, you are young, and going through something big. I already went through a lot of stuff like that. I'm serious when I say that you can DM me if you need some advice, or just want to vent. Not being weird here. I'm just someone who commiserates with you, and I like to help people.

Hmmm. I have cheated once. I have been cheated on twice. I have been the other man. Does it mean anything that I was cheated on long before I ever cheated on someone else? Does the time I spent with a married woman (who was quite intent on breaking up her marriage) does that count as me cheating?

From my experience the answer seems to be that a lot of people cheat, and gender is no impediment.

Look the reality is, if he have options he will cheat. But this doesnt mean, he loses attraction towards you. Mens cheating is more animal like, If he cheats on you, the way he looks at you doesnt change at all. You might be wife quality, and after he cheats you are still a wife quality. So he comes back to you. But the real point is, all men cheats if they have the options but if no one likes him and only 1 girl likes him for money then he aint cheating, because even if he wants to cheat, he cant 😭

Cheating requires three things: opportunity, desire, and capacity.

As a serial cheater, I can tell you that not all men have these three things.

A lot of men don't have the opportunity to cheat. There are plethora of a reasons that prevent men from having access to women to cheat with.
A lot of men don't want to cheat. A lot of men are in good healthy relationships and they're fine. They get enough sex, they get enough attention... They don't have to go out for it.
And then you have the men who have the opportunity and the desire, but do not have it in them to hurt the person they're with. They just aren't wired that way. They will put up various boundaries and barriers to prevent them from doing the thing that they want and can do.
