So, I should even weigh into this, but this entire premise is why people say that class and wealth matter in these kinds of discussion (and why a lot of the discussions around money here seem to completely ignore the experiences of both the genuinely poor and the genuinely rich).

First off: I've never heard of Morganfields, so I googled it. It appears to be a casual barbecue restaurant popular in Southeast Asia; it is not what I would consider "fancy". If a guy found taking dates to such a place too expensive, I would want him to cut that out! If anything, the offputting thing was that this guy was putting himself out like that when he couldn't afford it.

That said, I would be--if not offended, at least irritated--that a broke person couldn't think of a better date than sitting in a McDonald's eating Big Macs. Like, I've been the broke person planning a date or part of a date, and there are SO MANY fun things you can do for the same price or cheaper than hanging out at McDs! There's much tastier food you can get for that price, even!

I wouldn’t continue to date a guy that only took me to McDonald’s on dates. EVEN IF he also did the exact same for his ex partners. EVEN IF he didn’t take them anywhere and him taking me to McDonald’s is an upgrade. I don’t care about what he did with other partners - they do not set the standard for me. Secondly why his actions have changed is the focal point. Does he have less money, has he grown to realize he doesn't get a good feeling from buying others nice dinners and wants to stop? Or is it a purposeful snub of just me? Obviously the reason matters as much as the change.

More importantly, dates of a reasonable frequency are a requirement for me. They don't need to be always paid for by him, or of the highest quality but both of those need to happen with acceptable frequency.

Just so you know, I'm a guy, but I gotta say this after seeing all this. Even though there are women who've tried anal sex and other kinky stuff and don't do that for their current SOs, a much more common occurence would be women who would've had a lot of sex before, but after getting engaged/married, they stop having sex as much as before. Nah, I'd actually be really happy that he figured out all those other women were using him as a meal ticket (literally!) and that he finally found me, someone he can just relax around. Nobody should have to spend oodles of unnecessary money to impress their partner. Besides, I like treating my partners, so if he told me he actually enjoyed going to fancier places once in a while I'd take him out and pay for us myself.

Honestly, this is the same exact scenario I've been living with my FWB. I am well aware that he used to pay in-full when he had actual girlfriends or sometimes went dutch, but I enjoy being able to act as the financial provider so there's no need for him to. It's nice to be able to go out to eat with someone I care about and not make them worry about the money for it. Makes everything much more fun and relaxing.

This wouldn't be a scenario for me because I'd never sit back and let a guy plan the date and make the decision on where to go without consultation (unless we're already in the relationship and he wanted to plan a surprise or something) - I'd never go to McDonald's on a date because the food is rank; equally I'd never go to an expensive restaurant on a first or early date because it's just a stupid option. Generally I'd just go for drinks on a first date but any meals have been casual places we've both decided on.

Also I insist on going dutch on all dates. I know my ex used to pay for all the dates with his ex - it didn't make me feel like he treated her better, it just made me feel like he was a bit of an idiot and she was taking advantage.

I wouldn't go on that date, because I don't eat fast food. I haven't touched McDonald's in over 10 years.

We can get coffee, which is also cheap. It'll be even cheaper, because I'll buy my own. We can go on a hike. We can go kayaking.

In the UK if you took someone on a date to McDonald's you would be perceived as a 'chav' which is slang for a low class youth with low intellect. That is just the stereotype we have.

Would I be offended that he decided to take me to McDonald's when past hookups he took to more expensive restaurant? No, I wouldn't be offended but I wouldn't be impressed with such a low effort date. I normally go on dates that are based around our shared hobbies, e.g. to museums or art galleries. You have something to talk about and it avoids the whole drama associated with how we pay for the check as most museums/art galleries are free.

Plus in my experience restaurant dates get pretty awkward and end up with you staring at each other silently across the table trying to think of stuff to say.

I wouldn’t go on a date to McDonald’s no matter what so how a man treated his past partners is irrelevant. I have a standard of how I wanna be treated and I’m sticking to it. If I accepted the McDonalds date to begin with I obviously didn’t have a standard for something better so why would I be mad? Also I think men behave in the reverse I have known women whose bfs treated them like crap and then they proceeded to date another woman who they now trip all over. Yes it sucks to suck but the problem was never what he was capable of but what she accepted.

if a man doesn’t want to date a woman because she doesn’t wanna explore some thing sexual with him fine the issue is him only holding her to that standard because she did it before that’s the weird part.
