I love video games, there are some days when I'm off where I just boot up a game I like and play for hours. But when my BF wants quality time? Pause, go and cuddle up or do something fun with him. Same goes for when he's playing games. Sometimes we play certain games together. Quality time involves participation. We made our Halloween costumes this year (did a charity event where we could dress up, socially distanced) and I did the fabric painting while he did structural stuff. We talked, engaged with each other, and were working on something together. THAT'S quality time. If you're cooking and your SO is occasionally popping in to say, "good job, babe", would you call that "quality time"? Or would you rather he's in there helping you prepare dinner? Being a passive participant is just that.

This isn't quality time, but let's just for a moment go with the idea that she actually suddenly enjoys being a passive observer. What about her love languages? What does he do to show her apprection? Clearly not listen to her concerns, because when she communicated her needs to him, he managed to gaslight her and make it about himself.

I think it's totally fine to show your SO affection in a way that they enjoy, but it should be a 2 way street. I'm personally tired of putting in more energy than I get out and being treated like I'm expecting the moon when I ask to be met halfway.

like yes, if you want a relationship you have to put in time- learning about each other, building trust, having new experiences together. but watching someone play games does not build their relationship into something that's more healthy or less disposable. it is a waste of your precious time in every way.

It was always something I hated: standing there, looking pretty, watching my ex play videogames. I was always so bored, and I couldn't muster the energy to hype him up.
