People always forget that it's these "lesser jobs" that allow our society to function. If sanitation workers, truckers, farmers, and the like stopped, and not even collectively, just one whole group, we'd be fucked. All you need to do to see what it's like to be in a city with no garbage men to take you trash away is look at the New York strike from years back.

If you wouldn't do a job, but someone else will and does, show em some respect

The hardships of life men face have been totally detached from their perception. For them water comes out of the faucet, electricity out of the socket and food from the store. They have no idea that there is hard work and sometimes even suffering behind every single object they encounter in their everyday life. Mostly work only men are willing to do. They take it all for granted.

My uncle once rolled up on a deputy sleeping in his car in a cemetery at 4:30 am. My uncle was there to work that day removing branches that fell from a recent storm. It really bugged him that the officer had been sleeping on the job so the next day he drove to the Sheriff's Office to complain on him. Once there He found out that every year that officer spends the night in the cemetery (on his own time) on the anniversary of the killing of one of his best friends who was killed in the line of duty. My uncle felt pretty shitty when he found that out and apologized to the deputy and offered to stay out there with him next year and keep him company to make up for it, but the deputy gratefully declined saying it would be weird because he mostly talks to buddy (killed deputy) all night about stuff that happened through out the year.

I did some further digging when he told me this story and found out that the Deputy who was killed was named Deputy Roger Lynch. He was shot making entry into a home to stop a man from beating his wife and daughter on June 2nd 2005 in Livingston County Ky. Deputy Lynch was shot 5 times by a high powered rifle at close range while both men were in tight stairwell. Deputy Lynch drew his weapon and was able to squeeze off one shot before he died despite having being shot in the mouth on the first or second shot from the bad guy. That one shot from his Glock .40 cal struck the bad guy in the center chest (got the aorta) killing him almost instantly. The bad guys daughter was also shot in leg by her own dad but later recovered. Crazy thing was that Deputy Lynch actually knew that man. They went to church together.

I worked at a call center with majority female coworkers. One day a group of them next to me were snickering about the nice Vietnamese guy that was the janitor, talking down about him. I interrupted and told him that he runs his own company and has brought most of his family over from Vietnam, and definitely makes more money than any of us. Shut them up.

I'm so glad I live in the South (Texas). Feminists are pretty much ignored and alienated down here by both men and women. The women generally appreciate the hard work of men and men generally respect the women: it's really as simple as that. Go to Austin though and it's a fucking liberal feminist cesspool. In NY, garbage collectors get paid about 150k a year, as a fast food worker, I make about 14.5k a year, which means that guy's place is worth over 10x more than my place, so that garbage truck is basically a throne as far as I'm concerned.

In philly (where I've lived in 3 different neighborhoods) my trash pick up people are mostly women! I had never seen anything like that! The first time I saw a woman in road work was in Alaska though. She was just holding the stop/slow sign but still. I thought it was pretty neat.

My mum is a cleaner, and has been for the better part of 20 years. She works in a school near where she lives, and goes there and puts up with rude children rude staff and some of the most disgusting habits that people can come up with.

And what does she get? She gets looked down on by people because she is "just a cleaner". It makes me flip every bloody time i hear someone downing people who do the jobs that people turn their noses up at. In this case, I don't think its about being a man or being a woman, i think its about doing the job that no one else wants to do, putting up with the shit (sometimes literally) no one else wants to deal with and doing that day in, day out for sometimes minimum wage with no real option of getting raises or anything.

People who do these jobs deserve our respect and our thanks, not that abuse that gets thrown at them.

Sorry, i just needed to rant!
