Because it's generally women that blame men for toxic masculinity while women themselves are upholding it

How are things like "shaming men for expressing feelings is toxic masculinity", "the idea that men can't be good fathers and that any man that hangs out with kids is a pedophile is toxic masculinity", "the idea that if you need help you aren't a Real Man is toxic masculinity" or "calling a man faggot for ordering a vegan burger is toxic masculinity" blaming men?

Men are always portrayed as victims of Toxic Masculinity and the blame always goes to society.

It's like a bully grabbing your arm and using it to pinch you in the face and then being like "why'd you hit yourself why'd you hit yourself" lmao

Only if you assume that women aren't part of society. For everyone else it's clear that criticism of harmful societal standards and expectations that are placed on men is blaming all men and all women that tell men to Man Up and do something dangerous.

It's always framed like "the way society treats men", "how we don't allow men to", "the way we teach men to", "how society restricts men's", etc it's always written as a general criticism of society as a whole, or even using 'we' to make it clearer that the (female or feminist) reader is also included.

The stereotypical ideal of masculinity generally promotes the image of a man as being dominant, muscular, a protector, and able to control his emotions. None of these traits are necessarily bad, and I’m not trying to attack them, but they create a very narrow definition of what masculinity is.

The masculine man only likes certain kinds of music, dresses certain kinds of ways, likes sports, has short hair, etc. Early on in a boy’s life, that kind of masculinity becomes a strong force that begins to pressure the boy to conform to that set of narrowly defined behaviors.

If a boy cries frequently, for example, he is shamed as not acting toward the standards that life set for him at his conception; he is made to feel that he is less than a man, that he must change his behaviors, his way of thinking, even maybe his personality to that standard. This boy is shamed until he changes, until he stops crying and learns to "control" his emotions and to think more "logically."

If the boy changes, he’s rewarded through external gratification; he’s praised as someone who has grown up into more of a man. On the other hand, if the boy doesn’t change, he’s criticized, sometimes bullied and harassed and made to feel like he is worse than what he’s supposed to be. Effectively, the boy isn’t allowed to be himself. This is when things start becoming "toxic" and harmful.

Traditional notions of masculinity often categorise it as a weakness if a man were to acknowledge that he has a health problem, and that it is not ok to talk about it or take action.

Words have power, and terminology about masculinity can be dangerous. Overtime, hearing phrases like "be a man" or "real men don't cry" sinks into the subconscious. As CNN's Kelly Wallace explained, our culture doesn't do a good job of creating a safe space for boys to express their emotions without the fear of facing ridicule. Doing away with toxic sayings such as these remove the pressure from boys to hide feelings other than anger.

Any article about Toxic Masculinity is always about societal standards which are harmful to men and the blame always goes to anyone in society that pushes those harmful gender norms on men.

Toxic Masculinity is clearly not putting the blame on men. It clearly portrays men as the victims of Toxic Masculinity and blames society.

So, it's obviously only framing it as the fault of men if you don't consider women to be part of society.

If I considered driving an important and essential part of my life worth risking, I'd drive.

But Russian marital and divorce laws are a bit different from the US. Here things get split strictly 50/50, if spouses don't agree on the other ratio. No alimonies with an exception for pregnant/recently given birth partner or a partner with a severe disability. Child supports are strictly 25% if you pay for one child. If you have more the percent changes, but even if you have 10 kids, you won't pay more than 50% of your income.

Overall men and women have somewhat even risks with an exception for custodies. Women usually get them, but men almost never really fight for them anyway. And a good share if not the majority shares the attitude that "you divorce both your wife and kids", as they don't participate in their kids' lives even when ex-wives are actively trying to help them to keep the bond. And it's really easy to hide from paying child supports.

I made a comment previously on some older post about how dimorphic traits are typically (usually subconsciously) associated with negative behaviors (women with wide hips and large breasts are typically judged to be sluts, tall and muscular men are typically judged to be violent or douchebags).

So with that being said, I made a hypothesis on why societies that place a greater emphasis on obedience and social hierarchy tend to have more neotenous looking people and less dimorphic. I would also add that this pressure would be greater on men since men with hypermasculine features would've been seen as not only a physical threat to society but as a problematic sexual competition to other men. I can see some of this subconscious programming in modern society as if a woman gets implants vs if a man works out and takes testosterone, society seems to have a much different reaction.

I also say this because I've lived in both a society that places a higher emphasis on obedience and social hierarchy and a society that places more value on personal freedom.

I'm not taking about normal women, we're talking about the expressed views of FDS users. If you have a problem with that framing take it up with them. I'm not personally endorsing this view, just citing their stated position.

I personally wouldn’t partake in it. Also, I think the FDS stance on SW is intriguingly murky in justification: the claim is that men ultimately traffic these women and force them into the industry which is true in many cases but OF/SBs are the few subtypes that give women the chance to be their own “pimps” so obviously the distaste for sex work has more to do with competition than “hehe let’s protect women from the men trafficking them against their will.”

Carpentry, rock climbing but I'm not sure whether it's male dominated or not, as the group I was a part of had more women than men...But I'm not really into male dominated hobbies. Carpentry is cool, because it's something I'd like to try out myself, not because it's "manly".

No skills and passions can be an issue. What the hell does he do in his free time?

Dangerous sports, motorbikes, expensive cars are heavily detrimental. As well as jobs that are inherently dangerous. I'm risk-averse. Expensive cars are just shallow imv. I guess gaming is basic and not really impressive. I play myself, but it isn't really interesting/attractive hobby. It's just there.

What hobbies I do think are cool, but they aren't necessarily "male dominated". Cooking and baking. Any guy who can cook well gets +5 and if he also can bake it's +10. Being into art, so we could talk about it and enjoy it together. Pet shelter volunteering. Gardening is cool imv and I'm really bad at it. Hiking and having basic survival skills.

I guess it depends on what standards are used. If it’s height/income/dick, then I likely would be, because I’m in the top 2% height for a woman in US and my income is top 10% in US, so if those would be true as a man also then that would be top 20%. I don’t know what my dick size would be, of course (and I don’t know my brother’s!), but I have larger than average boobs for my size (even after surgery to reduce them by half) so if that translated in my conversion to male I’d have a huge dick.

For further evidence, I have a brother who looks almost exactly like me, just a masculine version, and he has never had any trouble finding women (he has 2 or 3 girlfriends now and did even while married), he’s tall, and he makes a lot of money (he’s even a software engineer like me, although different specialty so he makes even more).

Come to think of it there is one mod there that is obsessed with looksmaxing and she is the one exception. (I already mentioned that there are always a few of those in a group that large) But all the doxing mashups that get posted and quickly deleted by mods show the rank and file are pretty rough.

Not to mention that when you hear a girl talk about how dude only called her when he was drunk and dtf while always hiding her from his friends that means he is embarrassed to be seen with her. You might try to deny it but that's no pretty girl.

Does it matter if it's 30 or 25% ? The percentage of men in the categories you mentioned is negligible. Besides I'm pretty sure they did account for gay men since this was data taken from a survey that accounts for sexuality.

They count as men who couldn't get laid within a year. Which is a very low standard to pass . Call them however you want if you don't like it but sexless does seem very appropriate. If they never had sex they'd call them virgins.

For some, maybe. Others put 100% of their focus into things like work or school for a bit

Not men. At least not for a whole year.

I really do think it’s abundance - if you know you can get laid in the future, it takes the desperation out of now

I had my hair professionally cut and styled for the first time in ages yesterday! (Usually I just chop off my bangs with the proverbial rusty kitchen scissors.) The stylist laughed when she asked what we were doing with my hair today and I suggested an exorcism. (I think she thought I was joking.)

I was amazed by how long she spent blowing out my hair. It went on, and on, and on ... . Inside I was screaming, "C'mon c'mon let's go let's go!" but I didn't want to offend her so I sat there gritting my teeth. Figured I was paying for the experience so I might as well sit back and enjoy it.

She tried to sell me on some "heat-activated" styling product as if that were a good thing. Yeah no, tomorrow it's going back in a ponytail. Hell, 10 minutes after I left, the wind had wrecked all her hard work thanks to driving with the windows down. (I really need to fix the AC in my truck.)

The cows at work still recognized me so it's all good.

Ideally we wouldn't be forced, but I will say that we should all be able to see at this point that something needs to change as far as our productive economic activity. It isn't normal for every relatively wooded area to be entirely on fire every fucking summer.

Buy local. Purchasing food from nearby means less carbon emissions from transport. On a larger scale, buy domestic. Shipping goods overseas leaves a huge carbon footprint.

On that note, I find it weird that the American right has always been so pro-capitalism, since it's probably the single most destructive ideology in regards to tradition; either ruthlessly eroding it to create more easily marketed-to atomized consumers or commodifying it and turning it into a contemptible McCultural parody of itself.

Capitalism is the best working and most natural system. No system is perfect, but I trust people voting with their dollar more than I trust a government to run anything that complex.

I'm aware, I have family in forestry, a lot of them actually. Many countries have been fantastically bungling their woodland management by trying to optimize the amount of profitable timber (as well as a bunch of other, ridiculously stupid policies like over clear-cutting, not burning after a clear-cut, prioritizing preserving old-growth forests, spraying unprofitable deciduous saplings that would provide vital ground cover, not removing pine beetle kill, I'm sure there's more), but the increases temperature and the resultant drying in many regions is not fucking helping.

But even if we want to avoid the global climate change angle, there is definitely something to be said for spewing less shit into the air and the ocean because we have to live on this fucking planet.

Also while I'm ragging on the political spectrum: fucking leftoids, nuclear power is our best option by far, invest more money into constructing and developing new power-plants as well as thorium research.

I’m 5’8”, just hit 145 lbs. Decently low bodyfat, I have visible abs but im definitely not shredded or anything. I don’t think theres a point where you become instantly “attractive”, but I do think making steady progress should yield some results as far as how you’re percieved. In my experience, you’re not gonna turn any hard “no”s into a “yes” if a girl doesn’t like your height, but it can swing some “maybe”s, which I think counts for something.

It’s probably a lame answer, but I really don’t think there’s a “perfect” or “ideal” body type for a shirter guy. It really depends on your (natural) build and the vibes you give off. I’m a half-asian with a young face, so I feel like the pretty boy lean body works. If you’re a little more rugged looking, then I’d say bulking up would be a good choice. I think your choice of lean bulking is smart, since you can kinda gauge where you’re at while you go. It just takes a loooong ass time.

I also saw that you’re looking for a good routine. I’m not a gym expert by a long shot but IME a PPL routine works great if you can hit the gym 6 days a week. If you’ve got a home gym like me (no machines, just a rack) or you can only make it 3x a week, I’d pick a full body routine. I’ve been on Ivysaur’s 4-4-8 for over a year now and seen pretty great results. Just picking something simple and sticking to it has worked for me.

Let’s start with the misconception of what “stem” entails.

Stem equals science technology engineering and math. That encompasses A LOT of fields, including mine. But somehow stem has come to be synonymous engineering and programming. Largely due to stemlord/code monkey types running their mouths and dismissing all other fields (“bio isn’t a real stem field reeeee”) to promote the idea that their particular “expertise” is superior.

Women aren’t as interested as men in engineering and programming. So I think a lot of women don’t connect with efforts to recruit them into stem because they have a limited view of/exposure to what stem entails.

Public health is a stem field. It’s like 90% female. Medicine is a stem field. Medical schools now graduate more female students than male. So it’s not that women are not choosing stem, they’re just not choosing engineering and programming

And it has nothing to do with money. Engineering and programming pay very well.

If you want to know the real answer, its because women prefer images and sensory information, and men prefer ideas and abstractions. A man would read a history book when a woman would watch a cat video, or a man would listen to a lecture on philosophy when a woman would read a romance novel.

Used to be that men used reddit and women used Tumblr until underage girls wanted to get attention and so they put their CP out for everyone to see.

yeah.. reddit has definitely made me think less of other men, sadly. the men in my life are mostly good but they are so far from reddit demographic. almost all are into arts and culture, they are not some STEM-lords that watch marvel movies.

it pisses me off how reddit views stereotypically feminine hobbies and interests with such disdain. i'd love to have a statistic e.g. what % of redditors read poetry, let alone write it, like i do.
