A few months ago i was pumping gas and this chick next to me put the nozzle back into the machine, closed her gas cap, walked away from her car and stood there and stared at me for a solid 30 seconds while I was fueling up. I’ve had this happen to me several times. I used to work at a restaurant as a host so i basically had to stand at the front the whole time. One of the servers actually used to be pretty mean to me so i thought she didn’t like me but once she put in her two weeks notice she started acting differently (friendlier more talkative etc) and on her last shift before she left she walked up to the host stand and just stood there looking at me. Kinda weirded me out tbh but i was younger and clueless at the time.

You're right that the brain can quickly detect faces and stares, but it's prone to errors: faces in your peripheral vision will be observed that their eyes are looking at you, even if they aren't looking. It's a vestigial survival phenomenon. Even if actual eye contact was made, a glance doesn't mean anything, especially in a place like a busy gym where there's nowhere to look between sets that isn't occupied. It's a sort-of confidence boost to think you're being checked-out, but looking at someone isn't the "come fuck me" wink that reddit autists hype it up to be lmao.

So you're standing online at a grocery store or someplace similar. The guy behind you is REALLY attracted to you but you're busy, putting out groceries, rummaging through your purse, checking messages on your phone, giving no indication of any kind that you're open and interested, not even looking at his direction.
And in this scenario, when the man DOESN'T approach, your conclusion is, "he must not have been attracted to me, that's the reason he didn't approach me".

i will start with saying in my op i said ik im wrong LOL.
but if im at the grocery store like i'm usually at the grocery store, then i'm not done up and probably threw something on quickly, so i wouldn't even expect an approach in a place like that. i also get that men are told not to approach in everyday places like that, so i'm just focused on running my errand and not on people around me.
but if its a social event or a place where people are mingling, then i would assume hes just not attracted.

He could easily assume that it's YOU who is not attracted and/or interested because you give off no indication otherwise. Nothing in life is gonna be ideal, I know that being unpartnered is way better than being in a crap relationship, which I see plenty of on the internet, but it would also be nice to get a relationship.
