This asshole is suggesting this one month after his wife lost her mother, too. He’s an abusive nutcase.

Someone commented that the biggest red flag is that he refuses couple’s counselling. I gotta say, in my experience, that is indeed a huge red flag too, even without the other displays of crazy assholery.

Don’t get me wrong, couple’s therapy is not always a good idea because abusers can manipulate therapists, too, but outright refusal gives you the quickest indicator where this abusive scrote’s priorities lay - not her happiness nor their health as a couple.

No. Let's assume they're in the US, given the immediate assumption that healthcare prices justify "desperate measures."

A cycle of IVF is around $12-15,000. Assume 2-3 cycles.

A caesarian section birth is $23K (Insurance may cover some, but assume you're out of pocket $15K, give or take).

A V-birth is around $3-4,000 out of pocket with insurance. More if there are complications, NICU, pelvic floor therapy or reconstructive surgery, Doula, Midwife, etc.

People don't have kids because they're super invested in saving cash. Her husband is not making a logical argument.

So if his excuse isn't logical, what is driving it? Likely emotion or lust (the other two big motivations). A kind partner would examine their own emotional landscape to ensure their big feelings don't crush their partner's feelings or destroy their valued marriage.

Which means: (a) he's not a good partner, or (b) he's not motivated by emotion .... which leaves lust.

Either way, he's not a keeper. (Also she should double check that he hasn't already stepped out on her).
