Intentionally flashing a non-consenting guy? How does reddit think about that if a woman does it?

This was one of the few times that I respect Jeremy Kyle for his reply. After he said that, the audience awkwardly clapped themselves....

[–]lennoxonnell 1489 points1490 points1491 points 7 years ago* (18 children) | Copy Link

Goes to show the type of mindless drones who go to these types of shows.

laughs at fucked up thing

"That's fucked up why are you laughing?"

starts clapping in agreement

Like seriously i hope at least a few people went home with a valuable moral lesson, but I doubt it.

[–]nightpanda893 307 points308 points309 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

There were also probably a lot of people who didn't laugh and were clapping then at his response. But I agree, even audience get kind of a mob mentality and just react as a single unit sometimes.

[–]Medarco 76 points77 points78 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Live shows have an audience director. They sit at the front off camera and basically show the audience what to do. They clap, you clap, they cheer, you cheer, they gasp, you gasp.

[–]SerenityCliche 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How does no one seem to realize they got them to laugh then got them to clap for ratings? This isnt pussypassdenied its scriptedpussyassdenied.

Its reality tv man. They do this type of shit for ratings. same as someone posting to r/unpopularopinions with a wildly popular opinion.

[–]WhiteHairedWidow 42 points43 points44 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The audience are actually robots

[–]BipolarAJ 283 points284 points285 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]PM_ME_HAPPY_IMAGES 44 points45 points46 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]StrongAttitude -3 points-2 points-1 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

LOL, SO TRUE

[–]literallyaPCgamer 26 points27 points28 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If this show is, production wise, anything like Jerry Springer, theres a guy off the stage in front of the audience telling them when to clap, boo, cheer, etc.

[–]CantStumpIWin 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yup. Sometimes lights flash saying "clap". (¡JEB! could use some of those)

They do it in every show with a studio audience.

[–]shacobythetoe4212 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Don't they tell the audience when to clap? They might've done it on purpose.

[–]InZomnia365 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ive been to similar shows, and there are signals for the audience to clap...

[–]sober_1 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Isn’t audience just some extras and all the clapping and stuff is scripted?

[–]Aro2220 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They just want to feel like they're part of a powerful group that will protect their stupidity and shower them in false praise so they can feel good about themselves for a change.

[–]4nton1n 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The clapping are decided by the audience managers/warm up act

[–]smithical100 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sheeple is a term for a reason.

[–]marsthedog 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This reminds me of the time I was watching real world reunion. It was one of the first season.

One of the people on there has really good morals and values and didn't want to have sex before marriage. So at the reunion show. Someone came up to the Mike and asked him if he's still a virgin.

The whole audience laughed at the question and probably him.

Another guy on the show defended the Virgin guy by basically saying he's more of a man than we'll ever be because he's sticking to his convictions.

And then audience clapped along with him. Like why laugh at guy and then change your mind so quickly.

[–]formerlydeaddd 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

seems a fair depiction of society as a whole

[–]AgentWashingtub1 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Honestly he gets a bad wrap, all he's trying to do is help people. Sure the people on the show are 10 shades of trash but he as a person clearly has his heart in the right place and is a genuine voice of reason most of the time.

[–]PipapoFifafo 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In front of an audience? Nah mate. He does it for the show/shaming. He may position himself as the virtuous host, but I don't buy it.

[–]a-whim-away 16 points17 points18 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Maybe only half of the audience was laughing initially, and then they shut up in embarrassement while the other half clapped in agreement with the host.

[–]PipapoFifafo 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ever sat in such a studio? I'm pretty sure the audience reacts all together. But this is more because they get primed beforehand. I sat in the audience of a gameshow. Before they filmed, they had an animateur who did some 'clapping training' with us. It was weird as hell. but hey, thats what we got paid for. ;)

[–]jstbcuz 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Having gone to various television tapings in LA, I can tell you for a fact that over half the audience members are paid background actors known as "seat fillers" who will form a line and collect their check outside the recording studio after the show is over. Sooo yeah.. they're pretty much mindless drones tbh

[–]HNutz 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He's got a damn good point.

[–]throwaway9eidjddbd 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I hate that people will only feel empathy for men when you compare their situation to that of a womans

We shouldn't have to say "If this was a woman..." for people to understand how fucked the situation is

[–]-GalacticaActual 823 points824 points825 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

most people are unable to emphasize with anyone they don’t find attractive

[–]AggressiveSloth 215 points216 points217 points 7 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

I can't think of a single situation like this where the audience would laugh at a woman and need to be told "what if she was a man" to realise how fucked they are.

And that even applies to the legal system. Yet all they rant on about in media is about how unfair life is for Women because maybe a manual labourer has had a joke made about her once.

[–]Boner-b-gone 15 points16 points17 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So now you understand how bad prejudices are, and how hard it can be to recognize in oneself. The best thing you can do is work on discovering your own prejudices, and kindly but firmly make people aware of their own.

[–]PM_food_plz 91 points92 points93 points 7 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

Lets not make it a contest. People treat people like shit over stupid prejudices. We need to work on that, as a society.

Just because someone doesn't sufffer from the exact same problem doesn't mean they don't have their own issues.

[–]nosurfnofapnonothing 79 points80 points81 points 7 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

he's right though, men are treated as disposable, specially when they are weak.

For women we always try to protect them no matter what.

[–][deleted] 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[permanently deleted]

[–]ThatNoise 12 points13 points14 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Your not understanding what he's saying. We act like women always need to be protected. He's not saying women are always protected.

We pamper women because we as a society feel they are inferior. It's a sexist predisposition of how women are regarded.

This goes into why we laugh at a man going through the exact same scenario that we would not laugh it if was a woman. It's really fucked up.

Edit: I should point out women and men are both guilty of perpetuating this predisposition.

[+]Drunkonownpower -11 points-10 points-9 points 7 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

For women we always try to protect them no matter what.

This is a VERY generous outlook on being treated inferior.

[–]dnaboe 45 points46 points47 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Lmao if you think women are treated as inferior youre dumb.

I don't have women opening doors for me or paying for my drinks or carrying me up the stairs or giving me her shoes when her feet are sore. Ive never seen a woman step in to stop another woman from hitting a man. We look out for and protect women out of respect, not because they are inferior.

[–]Drunkonownpower-4 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I don't know why anyone wouldn't hold the door for anyone regardless of gender. Also I've seen plenty of women step in for women and men and plenty of men stand by and do nothing or step in. There is no "we" here. Some people are respectful some aren't.

[–]runujhkj-16 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It’s a pretty condescending form of respect; women aren’t our superiors or our elders...

E: it’d be one thing if we all held the door for everyone, because it’s the polite thing to do, but women specifically? Acting all chivalrous like women’s dainty hands will snap off if they open doors for themselves? Sexist as fuck IMO

[–]dnaboe2 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Stick to your moms basement pal

[–]runujhkj0 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Maybe y’all spend time around more helpless women than I do, but I’ve met very few women who were so reliant on others that if a man dared not to hold her door she’d break down into tears. Fuck outta here with that sexist bullshit.

[–]dnaboe2 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

No one said that. You're the only one demeaning women in this thread.

Find a job where you don't have to leave the basement bud, the outside world isn't meant for neckbeards like you.

E: checked your history, yup. Neckbeard is even worse than I thought.

[–]runujhkj-1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

TIL it's not demeaning to treat women like they all require big, strong men to open all doors for them. I'm sorry your mom hit you, but that's not a normal relationship. Most women are strong and able-bodied people, who don't need a concept of chivalry that's literally older than the printing press. Either you think you should hold open doors for everyone, or you are a chauvinist, a misogynist, possibly a misandrist, but definitely a sexist, full-stop.

In before another mention of a basement, a neckbeard, or a job. Tick off some more squares on my "pointless and pathetic reddit jabs Bingo" card, please.

[–]dnaboe1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Maybe when people suggest that you treat women nicely, you shouldn't assume it is because the man thinks they are superior, but rather see that it is good to treat others with respect.

I don't need to put my nose right up to someones armpit to be able to tell if they haven't showered in a week. Just like I don't need anything more than this interaction to be able to tell that you live a very lonely life.

Now I am going to go home from work to my lovely wife and not waste any more time on you, while you sit in your moms basement commenting on 4chan, acting confrontational on the internet; the only place where you aren't a pussy.

C ya

[–]runujhkj0 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It'd be nice if that was what chivalry meant. It would be nice if everyone opened doors for each other, because it's the polite thing to do. Unfortunately, that's not what chivalry is. It's an antiquated form of being condescending to women, because as a patriarchal society we believe that they're delicate little flowers that shouldn't have to deign to open doors for themselves. It literally is as old as dowries. Educating yourself on this would be nice, instead of resorting to the most cookie-cutter retorts possible.

I didn't even read your whole comment and you ticked off at least four more "pointless, impact-free, embarrassing, pathetic reddit jab" squares on my bingo card. I'm close to the full row here, got any more?

[–]blackmagicwolfpack -4 points-3 points-2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

There’s a biological/evolutionary reason for that, though.

If there’s only one sexually mature male on the planet the species can survive. If there’s only one sexually mature female left, we’re dunzo.

I’m not saying it justifies the “disposable male” attitude many people hold, but it’s an explanation.

[–]SubParNoir 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There'd be a shitload of inbreeding in that scenario.

[–]nosurfnofapnonothing 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

lol, retarded as hell to use "biological/evolutionary reasons" to justify anything.

You know what cave men used to do to women? they'd rape them, and no, they wouldn't go to jail, and there's "evolutionary reasons" for that.

[–]goat_of_departure1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Brb, gonna go slaughter the men in the adjacent state and force their women into my harem, because that’s the historical and biological precedent

[–]Locke_Step 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Lets not make it a contest.

Obviously not. One side would lose hard, so it's really no contest at all, no point.

[–]HyzerFlip 147 points148 points149 points 7 years ago (46 children) | Copy Link

Been there.

I really don't feel typing out all my single dad rants.

Let's just say that my daughter and I have been a duo since she was 7mo old (like to the day) and over the next 2 years women would freak the fuck out seeing us together.

The poor kid looks just like me too. So it's not like there's some visual indicator we're not a family.

But dear lord have I had to flip on some piece of shit women accusing me of all kinds of terrible shit.

I was once blocked by a group of women in publix... Like strangers... That all talked each other into thinking that my daughter and I grocery shopping was somehow me doing something despicable. Fortunately right as I was about to lose my shit flipping out, a co-worker's daughter that works there saw us and came over to give my baby some love.

They believed the 16 year old girl.

[–]Hussor 65 points66 points67 points 7 years ago (37 children) | Copy Link

Is this sort of thing common in the US? Here in the UK I see fathers with their daughters all the time and no one bats an eye. So weird to me.

[–]BSimpson1 37 points38 points39 points 7 years ago (25 children) | Copy Link

I honestly have no idea what he's talking about. There was a time I had to watch my niece since my sister was a single mother who worked during the day and I worked mids. Might as well save some money on daycare. No one batted an eye or said anything unless it was to tell me how cute she was. Also have a couple friends who are single dads and never heard any complaints. I've never even seen something like that in public. It sounds like a load of shit.

[–]S1llyB3ar 51 points52 points53 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Lucky you I was taking care of a friend's baby helping her babysit and the mothers grandparents told her to not let me change her because "he is a child molester, why else would any man want to change s child" so there's that...

[–]VicisSubsisto 30 points31 points32 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

My sister used to work at a preschool that would not allow her male coworkers to change diapers at all, for fear of such accusations.

[–]IGargleGarlic 16 points17 points18 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I work in special education and the policy is to not let male substitute paraeducators (fancy term for teachers aide) change diapers, but it's practically expected of female substitutes.

[–]VicisSubsisto 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm sorry to hear that. Not surprised though.

When I was supply teaching I would cover a kindergarten class if I got the call because I have bills.

Every time I’d go to a school where I hadn’t been before, a parent would see me and decide not to bring their kid to school that day. A handful of times mothers went to the principal to complain about a man working in kinder. Two principals asked me to stop taking kindergarten calls.

Lady, I want to be here less than you want me to be here. I’m just a dude trying to get my career going and pay my rent in the meantime.

Yes, because every single one of those has to do with a father being at a grocery store with his daughter and having a random group of women stopping him and accusing him of something. Great reading comprehension. They are exactly the same and not at all vastly different situations that sound much more plausible.

[–]ScreamingMidgit14 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

The point is that a guy can't be around a kid without some dipshit moral busybodies making accusations for no fucking reason.

Just because this hasn't happened to you doesn't mean it doesn't exist you ignorant ass.

[–]WabbitSweason13 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points21 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Do you actually think your experiences are exactly the same as everyone else's experiences?

"This thing didn't happen to me, therefore it didn't happen to you either!"

[–]BSimpson1 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I guess i just don't live in an area where "groups of women" go up to fathers with their daughters in a grocery store and start berating them for no reason. Nor have I ever seen anyone go up to a father with their daughter and start accusing them of things.

Where is it such an uncommon thing that a group of women form together in a grocery store to surround them? It sounds like a "I punched the guy manspreading on the subway in the nuts and everyone stood up an clapped" story. Sure, it hasn't happened to me and I can't prove it didn't happen, but it sounds entirely embellished.

[–]Aww_Topsy-2 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

The only place I can even picture this happening is somewhere deeply religiously conservative with really entrenched gender norms and unfulfilled busybodies.

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_ZOD_RUNES -5 points-4 points-3 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Not sure why you're getting downvoted, you're right, the story does sound odd. Unless some part of it was left out I can't see a group of women doing that for no reason. I have a three year old daughter and I go to public places alone with her often and this situation seems surreal to me. I always get women talk about how cute she is but that's it...

[–]BSimpson1 -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I just noticed what subreddit this was in since I usually browse r/all. It's more about how women are terrible than anything else. I'm not really surprised by the downvote. It's like the opposite of those "all men are pigs" tumblr circles. A bunch of people that would rather whine and throw blame than actually try to solve anything.

[–][deleted]2 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It's amazing what people will tell convince themselves of in order to keep the 'I'M RIGHT!' feeling intact.

Maybe venture out of the internet bubble you're in every once in a while, bud.

Might as well save some money on daycare. walk through a rich neighborhood as a black person. No one batted an eye or said anything unless it was to tell me how cute she was. Also have a couple friends who are single dads black and never heard any complaints. I've never even seen something like that in public been discriminated against. It Racism sounds like a load of shit.

Try that argument with a black person and see how it goes.

It might be rare but it does happen. Some guy was kicked off a plane and investigated for being alone with his daughter. Another guy was asked to move because a little girl was seated next to him and they said it was inappropriate. Or she was moved I can't remember. The same goes for male teachers, they get treated with suspicion. Meanwhile women are literally being defended by the media for "being unfairly jailed just for being in a relationship with an 11 year old student at age 40."

Bill Maher called it a love story, said "she's being jailed for being in love" and nobody batted an eye.

I’m wondering too, as I’m in Australia and all the time it’s just me and my 7 year old son on outings. We’re very close, so huggy and kissy. Just yesterday we were laying in the Park, him in my lap, hugging, looking at clouds, no one gave us any shit.

I haven't really had to many problems, The only event that really stands out was when I got my ass chewed by an older woman at a Target for taking my daughter into the mens room to change her. She was somewhere around 1.5 to 2 years old, walking, still in diapers most of the time. As it happened the Target we were at, had one of those fold down changing tables in the mens room, so other than seeing me go in, and seeing us come up, the woman had no intel on what was what. We went back to the cart and she followed us for like 15 min calling me names, making demands on why I would do such a thing, trying to get employees to do something, threatening to call the police, etc. I just ignored her and went about my shopping and she eventually stopped following us, I was sure she would have some police or something waiting when we went to leave the story, but I never saw her again.

society doesn't view men as people with emotions. so its funny when that stuff happens to them.

on the other hand society infantilizes women. they can't do anything or take responsibility for themselves and so must be protected. like a child.

so comparing men to someone like that humanizes them a lot.

[–]crewe-dave 29 points30 points31 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Ah - do you know who DOES infantilize women? Other women.

Woman votes 'the wrong way' in an election (ie Trump instead of Hillary) - internalised mysogeny.

Women choose not to work in a certain career - this is because men make them feel uncomfortable/stop them.

Women are forced to wear high heels because of men (somehow).

Even though all the women I know are entirely capable of thinking for themselves and making their own decisions, thanks very much.

[–]pooltrait3 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Women being forced to wear make up or certain clothes is the funniest one. Men will like anything that women do as is evidenced by porn sites where there's even an "ugly" category. Do you see a "homeless" category in the woman's section? No? Weird.

If women walked around wearing flat shoes men would develop a flat shoe fetish. Hell, I weirdly find certain SOCKS attractive just because I saw girls wearing them growing up. Men follow women, not the other way around.

In America over 100 baby boys die every year as the result of circumcision. There's rare cases where it's needed medically like phimosis but for the most part it's not needed, at all.

In Africa with Boko Haram, that massive media campaign about the missing school girls, prior to it, hundreds of boys were burned alive in their schools.

It's exactly like you say though, there's no empathy whereas the reverse would be.

[–]WildWook 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think the average human is fairly cold to others in general, regardless of gender. There are societal and cultural norms, sure, but I think people tend to only care about those in their immediate circle. Somewhere along the lines, maybe it was too many Disney or Pixar films, we decided humanity is ultimately good and loves one another. In reality, we care very little for others. Sad truth.

[–]I-commented-a-thing 15 points16 points17 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Which is doubly stupid cause people have to do it for women too, "what if it was your sister, wife, daughter". Why can't we give a damn about other people just cause they are people?

[–]Squid8867 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

We should be bringing women to men's standards, not bringing men to women's standards

[–]Squid8867 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think if we held everyone in the world to men's standards (i.e. Don't hit people or you will get hit back, don't throw everyone into a state of chaos because something bad happened to you, etc.) the world would be a much less more laid back place

[–]JoHeWe 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]magx01 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I get this but frankly there is no 'shouldn't' when it comes to biology. And unfortunately women are simply more biologically important (they can only make one kid every 9 months; guys can sire thousands in nine months if they put their minds/dicks to it) so we care more about them. I make a conscious effort to show men support because of the nonstop favoritism of women but at the end of the day we're biological entities and biology is only 'concerned' with (so to speak) reproduction.

[–]pooltrait1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yeah, one I keep seeing recently is a man's life literally being destroyed by a false accusation, like this guy who spent 12 years in prison. Then the first thing we hear is "the problem here is that false accusations make women's life harder because nobody will believe them."

Imagine being the guy who only got out of prison because his accuser accidentally left her confession somewhere that someone could see it and then you hear people saying that. "So me sitting in a prison for literally no reason wasn't the problem? The woman who admitted to falsely accusing me not getting punished isn't a problem meaning women have zero incentive to stop?"

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_BITCOlN -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

This is the same issue the black community has with death by police. People only care when a white person dies. When a black person dies some people say “well he must have been doing something wrong”. It’s fucked up.

edit: you’re all completely missing the point. this is a truth in my life here on Long Island, NY. I witness this in my own family and in my community as well. Go ahead and say it’s false and give me statistics (which I’m not even talking about who dies more, I’m talking about the attitude toward skin color) but this is something I see all the time and you can’t change my opinion on it because you live a different reality than mine. Just bc you don’t experience it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. But this is r/pussypassdenied and we all know what kind of people browse this god forsaken subreddit

[–]taupro777 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's absolutely false. White people are killed by police in much higher numbers and noone cares for a vast majority of them. Same thing with every race killed by police.

[–]Porteroso 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Actually that is more or less true for every color of skin. People often only care when "their own" are killed.

[–]WabbitSweason 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's up to men to make that change though. No one will stand up for our right to live as free human beings in whatever way we want because we are too useful as tools, weapons, and shields in society.

Liberals believe in the toxic male that can only be made good and worthy by feminism idea:

-Men are rapists or to varying degrees rape apologists(Unless washed in the purifying period blood of feminism)

-Men should Protect women even though women can do anything a man can do AND do it in high heels

-Men should attack other men that reject feminism. Because male violence is good as long as it is serving feminism. Blessed is HeforShe.

-Men should show emotion but only if those emotions serve feminism. If the feeling expressed by men are against feminism than it's ok to make fun of men showing emotions. #MaleTears #MaleFragility #Pissbaby

Conservatives believe in the traditional roles for men:

-Tough(If you are "weak" you are useless and not a "Real" man)

-Silent("Real" men don't talk too much like women do, especially about feelings)

-Protector("Real" Men are supposed to sacrifice themselves to defend weak vulnerable little women and families from bad men)

-Provider("Real" men make lots of money so women respect his power and authority if they want access to that money)

-Weapon and Shield("Real" men protect their country and follow orders without question to kill people all over the world)

Men will only gain equal empathy and freedom if we reject all this shit as the qualities of "Real Men".

[–]loverevolutionary-5 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Toxic masculinity tells men we should not feel anything but rage. It also tells us we are all natural warriors, and any man incapable of defending himself is less than a man. These attitudes come primarily from other men. If we want these facts to change, we are the only ones who can do it. Raise your male children with respect for their feelings, even the "feminine" ones. It was okay that this man was scared of a woman. This does not make him less than a man.

[–]Huwajux 684 points685 points686 points 7 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

I keep pointing out to feminists that they keep blaming men for "men not showing their emotions and talking about their experiences" yet when men do talk about those things feminist's response is "MASCULINITY SO FRAGILE!!!" (I wonder why men try to seem strong all the time?) and "I'M DRINKING YOUR TEARS!"

Okay. You people obviously want equality and you aren't a hate group.

[–]SayNoob-23 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

In social science literature this concept is called "toxic masculinity".

[–]Talbooth30 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

The question is... if this is what's called toxic masculinity, why does it label the "masculinity" toxic when it's the people laughing that are toxic. No one calls it toxic feminity when a woman hides her emotions for fear of a reaction to it, they call it abuse towards the woman.

[–]Marsmar-LordofMars9 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Women not going to the police about being raped out of fear of not being believed is now toxic femininity.

Spread this meme and feminist heads will literally explode.

[–]Talbooth3 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Nah, they would just find a way to somehow not think about the inconsistency. But this idea is definitely an endless salt mine, it has power like few others have.

[–]SayNoob1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I know you're trying to be edgy/funny, but that was basically what the whole feminism movement up until the 80's was about. Getting women into the mindset where they don't believe being anything but a stay-at-home mom is not being a 'real woman'.

[–]SayNoob-16 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Toxic masculinity refers to specific forms of masculinity which are toxic. It does not mean 'all masculinity is toxic' it is the same with all adjective noun structures in the English language. Don't drink that toxic water does not mean don't drink any water, all water is toxic. It means don't drink that specific water because it is toxic. The same goes for toxic masculinity.

Usually the people who think toxic masculinity means 'all masculinity is toxic' are the red pilled anti feminist types who want to find something from feminism they can be angry at.

Toxic masculinity is the idea of masculinity which has negative effects. "It's not manly to open up about your girlfriend abusing you" is a perfect example of a form of toxic masculinity.

EDIT: To clarify further, masculinity is a social construct. Not necessarily a behavior. The idea that "it's not manly to open up about your girlfriend abusing you" is toxic masculinity. In this case it's the audience perpetuating it rather than the guy opening up.

Masculinity is not a behavior it's the 'idea of what it means to be a man' so women can perpetuate toxic masculinity as well. For example a mother telling her daughter "if you see a man cry he's not a real man". I can understand the confusion because it's all a little bit abstract.

[–]Talbooth8 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I don't know where you got the idea that I think toxic masculinity means that all masculinity is toxic (maybe I was a bit unclear with my language usage somewhere?), but I guess that second part makes sense and helps me understand this kind of thing a bit better.

[–]SayNoob1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

[–]loulan 16 points17 points18 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A few years ago a girl I was friends with wrongly believed I had been spreading rumours about her sleeping with one of our mates (I didn't spread any rumours, it was a complete misunderstanding.) We were all in the pub on Christmas eve and she confronted me in front of everyone and started trying to punch me. I tried to talk to her but she was drunk and adamant about hitting me. Someone restrained her and I went outside for a cigarette.

She followed me out, came up from behind and punched me in the face, the punched me few more times before I grabbed her wrists and tried to reason with her. So then she started trying to kick me between the legs and when I used my hands to block she punched me in the face more. There was a crowd of people and they were laughing at me. If a man was doing that to me my first plan would be to run away. I don't want to fight because if I lose I get hurt and if I win I could be in trouble. But I would have been ridiculed if I ran away. So my only other option would be to fight back, which I couldn't and didn't do because I would have been immediately battered by those watching. So I just got hit and laughed at. If anyone knows of what I should have done instead please tell me.

[–]Iamthewarthog 48 points49 points50 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Jerry Springer in a nutshell

  • Has brought us such classics as "I'm Cheating On My Wife With A Midget Stripper", "I'm Cheating On My Racist Husband With My Black Neighbor", "Man Marries A Horse"

  • There is a stripper pole built into the stage. they used to have actual dancers but now the guests just use it (which if you haven't already figured out, are mostly obese trailer park trash women).

  • There are "security guards" there to break up fights between guests (which are allowed and even encouraged by the ringing of a boxing bell). Steve Wilkos, another famous US TV host, started out originally as the most popular of Springer's goon squad.

  • At the end of every episode, they open the floor to the audience to ask questions (read: lob insults) at the guests. this is the best part of the show as it is just a huge roast session.

It is considered to be probably the pinnacle of trashy American TV.

I couldn't stop watching Jeremy Kyle videos for a while. His show is obviously trash but he is fair when it comes to real equality and it seems his audience actually do learn since I've seen other more recent clips where a guy will talk about abuse and the audience do the right thing. (Weird that the right thing is now defined as not laughing at someone's suffering. CURRENT YEAR EVERYONE!)

Isn't most of all this scripted though? How much of an indicator are anything that is said/done in those shows, especially audience reactions when most of the time they are told how to react as well?

I feel like stuff like this really skews reality up to a point where we - as consumers - are made to think what most people are like. I'm not sure this is ok to do tbh.

Besides, what is up with people watching that even? Why are some people looking forward to see others suffer, fake or not?

[–]TrialAndAaron 7 years ago* [recovered] (19 children) | Copy Link

This is equally as toxic. “Women” don’t do anything. Some might but there are also plenty who don’t.

Edit: I love that if a woman made a blanket statement about all men this sub would go nuts. You’re acting the same way as the audience.

[–]LegitimateProfession 45 points46 points47 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

This is equally as toxic. “Women” don’t do anything. Some might but there are also plenty who don’t.

The exact same point can be made about men, but that didn't stop the #MeToo nonsense or the relabeling of all masculine traits and virtues, and the men who live up to those virtues, as "toxic", now did it?

[–]2happyhippos 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'd be interested to know what traits and virtues you think have been relabelled as toxic?

Genuinely interested in having the conversation. I agree that the metoo movement has gone too far in some respects, but I don't think that should negate the truth that men have had and still have considerably more power in our society - as a group - and that women are more likely to be disempowered, disadvantaged in the workplace, abused, and disbelieved. the metoo movement is coming from a place of shining a light on this terrible truth and changing the culture. It makes me uncomfortable that in midst of this there has been as demonization of men as a group and loss of perspective on the spectrum of possible inappropriate behaviours (e.g. a comment that makes someone uncomfortable / an unwelcome touch / full on rape somehow become equal in the eyes of some). The issues of consent and power and bodily autonomy are complicated and need thoughtful discussion, not just angry blanket statements.

[–]TrialAndAaron-37 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

[–]LegitimateProfession44 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

[–]TuggyMcPhearson37 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

[–]DrapeRape28 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

[–]AFloppyZipper5 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It's actually irrelevant, because you're objectively unable to tell whether an anonymous internet poster is a victim and their degree of victimhood.

It also has nothing to do with the point they are making.

[–]2happyhippos 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wow, sorry you got downvoted so much for pointing out a fact. Broad generalizations such as those you responsed to don't help anyone.

I'm pretty new to the sub but it seems to me people here are all too eager to decide that "all" women are man-haters or out to hurt men or take advantage of them. By all means call out the women that do this, but please don't lose sight of the fact that women having a voice on their perspective, and men being called out for their own acts of entitlement or privilege, is still very new and shouldn't be shut down on the grounds that "women can be dicks too". There's a long cultural heritage of male privilege in our society that still needs to be balanced. Along the way the pendulum might swing too far, but that's only reason to continue the discussion, not shut it down.

[–]Technospider 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm just saying that by being a non-toxic, non-traditional man, I haven't had to give up on finding traditionally attractive girls.

A lot of guys are under the impression that girls claim they want nice guys but they really dont. And that's simply untrue. Girls DO want guys that make them feel comfortable. Girls DO want to be made felt special. Girls DO love a guy who can relate to their interests.

You dont have to be a "nice guys" to be a "good guy". Girls can just tell the difference.

Sure, but other attraction factors can play a role as alternatives when you are not physically gifted, such as confidence, money, power, and facial attractiveness, but those are all basically the same thing: a sign of good genetics and ability to be successful.

[–]ThatNoise0 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

There are plenty of men that get girlfriends when it's pretty obvious she had better options. The difference is we don't always understand what drives certain people to be attracted to one another. For a supposed patriarchal society this "humour" about women slapping and hitting men is all pervasive, TV shows and movies that celebrate a woman slapping or hitting a man who has displeased her is pretty much endemic now and the reaction is to just laugh or say "right on girl he deserved it"

The double standard sickens me

Want to feel even more outraged? Check out the clip from the View Talk when the hosts were talking about how a woman drugged her husband, tied him up, waited until he woke up before coming at him with a knife and cutting his dick off and running it through the garbage disposal, all because the guy wanted a divorce. They're cracking jokes (Sharon Osborne especially) and the audience is just laughing it up. One of the hosts even says "well she sure showed him!" which of course was met with laughter. Absolutely infuriating. At least one of the hosts mentioned the hypocrisy, though (which Sharon countered with another joke).

Edit: It was the Talk, not the View.

[–]MajinAsh 190 points191 points192 points 7 years ago (36 children) | Copy Link

[–]cowboypilot22 192 points193 points194 points 7 years ago* (10 children) | Copy Link

It wasn't The View, it was from a show called "The Talk".

The girl (not Whoopie Goldberg) that brought up the hypocrisy by saying they wouldn't laugh if a woman had gotten her breast cut off was countered by Sharon Osbourne with "wElL iTs DiFfErEnT" before she made another tasteless joke or two and switched the conversation, before addressing the hypocrisy of course.

[–]XoXFaby 124 points125 points126 points 7 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Let's not risk looking like the women on that talk show by comparing mutilations.

[–]XoXFaby 22 points23 points24 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It's perfectly fine to compare them, we don't have to pretend like they can't be compared. The problem was that they made fun of it and played it down as a joke.

Mutilations are awful but they are easily comparable. Have your finger cut off would suck but it wouldn't be the worst; having your dick cut off would be infinitely worse.

[–]UncleTogie 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Have your finger cut off would suck but it wouldn't be the worst; having your dick cut off would be infinitely worse.

Tell that to an asexual full-time hand model.

[–]Kryptosis 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The only real difference is inability to then reproduce which is a horror of the highest magnitude to many people. If we are gonna compare them at least compare them instead of just claiming one is worse for unspoken reasons.

[–]XoXFaby 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I assumed the many reasons were so obvious that I didn't have to point them out but yes, difficulty reproducing, loss of ability to have sex and any of the positive aspects of sexuality that wouldn't be possible without a dick, the psychological trauma from that and the actual mutilation, the shame and judgement by other people, all of that vs. losing a finger which would be much less traumatic.

[–]Jtk317 61 points62 points63 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Flake_for_president 34 points35 points36 points 7 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

That's a little out of context.

She pointed out that it was statutory rape. When she said it wasn't "rape rape" she meant to say that it wasn't unconsenual or forcible rape.

That was an extremely poor choice of words on her part. I don't think she was trying to minimize anyone victims experience but she was just trying to point out that the sex was consenual (in her view at least) in that particular case.

[–]bungorkus 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. It's the same reason the term "man flu" exists - the idea that men complain more when sick and are less resilient than women when it comes to being ill, despite the fact that statistically women take more sick leave than men. It's because under the "patriarchy" or "toxic masculinity" of our society, men are expected to be stoic and tough, and any sort of indication of weakness is met with derision.

[–]Vexorah 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I feel like I read somewhere that the man flu is a real thing though. My memory might not be spot on here but I think it said something along the lines of this; the virus recognizes that male hosts can not reproduce and as such doesn't value the host as much and doesn't hold back from the affliction. Whereas with female hosts it holds back because they are needed to reproduce and create more hosts.

I don't know how much truth there is to that though, but I did read it somewhere and thought it was cool.

If you could find a credible source that would be an amazing read. Unfortunately due to how it's worded it sounds suspicious but you're half remembering an article you read a while ago so it's not your fault at all.

[–]Fatensonge2 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

No, he said the virus could detect the difference. The virus doesn’t detect shit. Estrogen provides extra protection.

[–]StuckInAtlanta1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

"Estrogen provides extra protection" and what is that mechanism of protection?

Maybe I'm making an assumption but putting two and two together and keeping in mind that systems tend towards the simplest solution, that mechanism could simply be the virus detecting higher levels of estrogen in the system.

The two aren't mutually exclusive, I was assuming them to be two different ways of describing the same thing, which is a common phenomenon in science

[–]boomja221 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Viruses are extremely simple, not even considered a living thing. I would favor the idea of estrogen giving T cells (acquired immunity) something additional? Maybe a reason why women (I believe) have a greater amount of autoimmune diseases.

Maybe this is semantics at this point...

What a dramatic and stupid overstatement. This is the sort of stupid shit that only someone who spends their day thinking about stupid shit like toxic masculinity/patriarchy theory could possibly think is true. Stoicism and toughness are celebrated, but that does not mean all weakness is met with derision. Emotional passion and tenderness are generally liked in men too. Have you ever thought about why things like stoicism and strength among men are celebrated and encouraged? Do you not realize it's a good thing? That we are all alive and living the way we are now thanks to the sacrifices our forebearers made?

Sometimes, some people go overboard. Like those bitches on the Talk who laughed at a woman cutting her husband's dick off. Funny how the male gender is blamed for women like that behaving like cunts.

[–]CheaperThanChups3 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

All I'm saying is that traditional gender roles work against men too, like talking about domestic violence and being treated like a joke or the inability to state that they're not feeling well without being mocked. I've used the terms patriarchy and toxic masculinity because the parent comments were using that sort of rhetoric.

You raise an interesting point in saying that not all weakness is met with derision. You're right, when it's convenient for everyone that's true. It's inconvenient to deal with domestic violence, either side of the field. It's inconvenient when someone who is meant to be tough and manly is sick.

Things have gotten better lately but there's still a long way to go, on both sides of the coin.

[–]tmoneSpends too much time with ass cheeks spread apart 15 points16 points17 points 7 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link

It's an all encompassing label. It's not much different that saying "blacks steal" (which sounds like you are blaming black people for theft. Saying patriarchy is essentially blaming men for all that is wrong. It's a catchy blanket statement) Nor is there any tangible evidence of it. Using the whole work and pay thing is completely silly. No one has ever been able to prove it is from discrimination, but since men are at the top, it's just easier to scream "patriarchy" than to have your hypothesis be proven wrong.

[–]ValsamicBladimir -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

That's the worst analogy I've ever heard. The word "patriarchy" doesn't even have a verb attached to it and you're trying to compare it to a blanket statement about a race.

Just because your hypothetical screeching feminist is screaming "patriarchy" in your head doesn't mean the word means what you've invented it to mean for her.

[–]tmoneSpends too much time with ass cheeks spread apart 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

fine. call it black theory.

The worst thing about patriarchy is that you can define it any way you want. But you can always tell that it's sexist, because while youre essentially saying patriarchy is just gender roles, youre implicitly blaming the patriarchy just with the name. As we all know, the patriarchy (at least, institutional patriarchy, in many homes, there's a matriarchy, which does affect the patriarchal institutional sphere) arose as a result of gender roles, gender roles aren't cooked up by the patriarchs of the world.

Just because your hypothetical screeching feminist is screaming "patriarchy" in your head doesn't mean the word means what you've invented it to mean for her.

please spare us your childish tactics.

I feel like it’s kind of because of that patriarchy that these jokes exist though. Like it’s funny that a man would be slapped or hurt by a woman, because there is some sexist irony that she shouldn’t be able to hurt him because she is weaker. The fact that she does it despite these unconscious preconceptions is what makes people laugh. The patriarchy goes both ways to hurt men and women.

supposed patriarcle society

I understand where your coming from, but the fact that people laugh at men in situations like this is a symptom of a patriarchal mindset.

The reason society laughs at men in these situations is because of the societal belief that men are supposed to be strong and in control and cannot be the victim. The mockery only occurs because of that preconception. The strong being beaten/harassed by the weak.

If you care about men's rights and mental health, then you really should be fighting against a patriarchal mindset, because it is that mindset which leads to these situations in which men are never allowed to be the victim.

TLDR: A patriarchal society is toxic to men, not an advantage. The things you see as evidence against this mindset are actually the symptoms. People believe that men cannot be victims in a patriarchy and that leads to the mockery the audience gave this man.

Not the kind of person to believe we live in a complete patriarchal society, but this IS what would happen in a patriarchal society. If women aren’t expected to be strong or whatever, then this kind of thing would be a joke to any onlookers.

Think about it this way, let’s say there’s a race of people who are seen as physically weak. The thought of them physically abusing someone of another race would be funny to some. How can that other person just let that happen?

That’s not to say that’s right or wrong, it’s just how it is.

Lack of accountability. Most people will turn their brains inside out to formulate an explanation as to why the woman did something because of some invisible force that controls them. They have such a hard time saying with a straight face that she was a piece of shit. Always its some external factor that led her to do this. "Oh she had a shitty childhood, she was oppressed, she needed to vent". They never say the same things about men who do stuff like this. In fact, they go the extra mile and blame men who don't do stuff like that, and tell them they're bad too. I've been seeing this across the media and reddit.

All of the women there go on and on about all the premarital partners they had, how sooo successful they are (one was claiming they were making 150-200k annually but couldn't even give an actual title of the job and was still very fiscally progressive), how hot they all are, but they still had to settle for their husbands.

So you don't know where you are and you know what your talking about, got it. Maybe learn what a sub is actually about before parroting radical feminist reddit propaganda and vice articles.

They hate seeing women being held accountable for their actions. This sub isn't about punishment its about justice. Yea it attracts some bad actors but since when have those defined a movement. Oh right, that's how reddit works now, anonymous bad actors are held up as the spokespeople of a subreddit who disagrees with them fundamentally.

Just don't know why you disagree with the point made in the picture, that's all I'm concerned about. Seems like a straight forward and relatable message, so disagreeing with it seems like toxic feminism and such, just can't wrap my head around people not wanting equal treatment and rights. I imagine you've come from somewhere where you've not had much freedom of speech and haven't been able to speak freely in the past?

[–]TweektheGeek2 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

What fallacy would that be?

If I didn't like coffee, I could still criticize the behavior of people that went around slapping coffee out of people's hands or punching people who drink coffee.

It's hyperbole or course, but pretty clearly illustrates that no fallacy is present here.

Also, I really doubt that you have any idea what "my kind" is, whatever that's supposed to mean.

Some people just aren't mentally strong enough to accept the fact that they are too shitty of a person to succeed in life. Your hatred doesn't phase anyone, just attracts their pity. I don't think women have a clue as to how hypocritically unbalanced they want society to be. I completely understand their issues with how they are treated by men; I get it, and they are not wrong to be concerned.

But point out something like this?... now, not only do they still want to make fun of the victim, they hate the host too for pointing out their behavior to them. And they don't even register that as an issue.

It'll be a long time before we get a true balance in "equal" treatment. And aside from some asshole men who will just refuse to get the message, the imbalance will mostly just be how women will not believe they need to change their behavior as well. That's too bad.

[–]lastpattern1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

you should have ended your comment right there man

[–]CrunchValley -4 points-3 points-2 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

What an absurdly overarching statement.

[–]lasssilver 13 points14 points15 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

How so? Especially in a time where "we need to teach ALL boys/men XYZ." statements that are everywhere.

I'm not suggesting we NOT teach boys/men xyz, but how is my statement overarching in light of those?

And last, could this be a situation exactly like I posited in my post there, where it's even *suggested* women might need to change some of their behavior, as a group or individual, that you were more offended by it than reflective on it's merit?

[–]CrunchValley -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Not all women (not even most imo) think the way you described in your original comment. I'm sure you didn't mean it that way but it reads as if you're talking about literally every woman.

[–]lasssilver 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No, I meant many many women.

Ironically you are so unaware of it that you can not even register it. You literally do not even have a concept. That’s where the education needs to take place.

Like the op, a whole audience of men/women laughing at a man for his trauma. Oblivious to the fact that they would never do that to another woman. Or for that matter, an audience of men would not laugh at a woman.

Society’s norms have trained you to be unaware of what “you’re” doing. It’s not your fault, but it needs to be educated about.

[–]CrunchValley 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're preaching to the choir. I'm not even disagreeing with the point of the post. Just pointing out an overly broad generalization.

Ugh... Back when I was still watching TV, I was clicking along and landed on some chick talk show, and a bunch of broads were discussing the news item, where a woman cut a man's dick off when he was sleeping and threw it into garbage disposal so it couldn't be reattached. And one of the thundercunts started laughing, and saying something along the lines of "Imagine how funny it would have looked, just flopping around in the garbage disposal!" and all of them except I think one were laughing, and that one chick had this "This is wrong...isn't it?" look on her face. I mean...Jesus!

Reverse the genders. Man snuck up on a sleeping woman, hacked off a piece of her anatomy, and tossed it into garbage disposal. A bunch of men on TV hear about it, and start laughing about how funny it looks, flopping around in there. Can you guys honestly see this kind of shit on daytime television? I mean even in the Middle East, where a bunch of sick fucks can sit around on TV and calmly discuss, in scholarly atmosphere, the proper way to beat one's wife. Even THOSE twisted fucks wouldn't laugh at that.

Only had to do this once, but I recommend it.

As a guy, I don't hit back. The police get involved and I know shit will go south for me quick. What do I do? I push them over.

One solid shove and they are on their ass. Nothing will snap someone smaller and weaker than you back to reality if they are on the ground looking up at you. And what is she going to do? Call the police on you for pushing her away? She was assaulting you and all you did was keep her at a distance.

[–]stevrock 33 points34 points35 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I pushed her off me and she called the cops. In my state, they are required to take somebody to jail on such calls. I was found not guilty at trial, but even a simple push is not risk free.

I work with a guy who had an ex show up at HIS house and started getting physical and trying to break shit. He had to forcibly remove her from the house. Then she called the cops and got him arrested for "assault". Even had 2 friends over at the time as witnesses but still took months of lawyers and court dates before he got the charge dropped. It was ridiculous. This is in Canada btw.

As a hetero white male, my life is fucking easy and my self worth is what I make of it and if you are worked to death, you are in the wrong field. There are no rights I lack and I can confidently do anything I please without any thought about being discriminated against. What fucking standard are you held to that you haven't created for yourself? If you have zero support then you are probably a garbage individual that no one wants to be close to. Again, you decide your worth and you do what you want, as a hetero white male, no one is stopping you (unless you wanna be on the girls volleyball team).

[–]nightpanda893-21 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Is this a joke? This sub has some good anecdotal situations like this one but you can't generalize a negative experience like other actual minorities can. A lot of the problems you are listing sound like you are having trouble forming relationships and establishing self-worth which absolutely sucks, but happens to all kinds of people.

[–]Bebopo90 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Eh, this is a genuine blind spot for a lot of men and women. Essentially, men aren't empathized with when they are victims of anything less than murder or horrible torture. Especially if it's at the hands of a woman. Like how prison rape is a joke.

I often wonder how long it's going to take for true gender equality to come about. It could be centuries at this rate. And it's all the slower because people won't give men the same sort of empathy that they give women.

[–]CyberClawX-1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I think the laugh reaction is more simple than that. There is a comedy genre called surreal humor, and it basically works on unpredictability and subversion of expectations. How does an elephant fit in a fridge kind of stories, that go against all logic.

Which is why, people find men who are overpowered by women funny - it very much goes against expectation. Most men are stronger than most women.

It shouldn't be funny, like dead baby jokes shouldn't be funny, and yet, it manages to tickle our funny bone. I wouldn't necessarily say it shows prejudice on part of the audience or our society, as they are quick to show empathy when the host reminds them it's a human being there and confronts their posture.

[–]MetaCommando5 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Dead baby jokes are funny because they aren't real. If somebody showed you pictures of dead babies while telling the joke, it wouldn't be funny.

This is a real man with a real problem, and he got laughed at.

[–]CyberClawX1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It's mean and inappropriate, no doubt. I'm just explaining the why people laughed. Situations that subdue expectations create laughter.

Another example would be, a man dressed as a lady. It'd be mean to laugh at a cross dresser, and yet, the sight will cause laughter in many people, because it is unexpected. They are not laughing necessarily to ridicule the person or to be mean, they are laughing because they genuinely find it funny. And crossdressers have been used as a form of comedy for a long long time now (out of my head, I can only think of Bugs Bunny).

One example more is if you see someone mistepping and taking a tumble on the sidewalk. The person can get hurt, the person can get their clothes dirty, and yet your uncontrollable reaction is laughter. Are you doing it out of malice? Nah. It's just hardwired. Sure you'll try to contain it on the street, but if you are put into a crowd mentality situation, you might not have as much control (laughter is literally contagious).

And then they are in a place where you are encouraged to react audibly (going as far as having reaction cues). The host suitably putting it down and getting the cookie points for being progressive and anti-sexist, can be as easily a set up to look good, specially with the very quick applause right after.

[–]Skeith_Hikaru 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Wait, did the audience just laugh at a gay man getting abused and injured? Where the hell is this audience? Saudi Arabia?

[–]ArmbarSuperstar 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No. When he says "coming out", I think he literally means "coming out onto the stage at the start of the show"

I dont think he means "coming out" (of the proverbial closest) as a homosexual.

They didn't give more information on how she guaranteed that he couldn't open that door, OF COURSE he would've tried every way possible to him at the time to open that door BEFORE JUMPING FROM THAT BALCONY FROM SUCH A HEIGHT. People calling him 'not a man' for not barging down the door are so shallow and an absolute pain to deal with. You guys don't think he tried all those methods!? Who knows what she used to lock that door, but I can assure you that he isn't going to jump without trying everything.

[–]lowrads0 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

[–]MetaCommando2 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It absolutely is. He said that we don't know how he had been locked in, but that if he could unlock it he wouldn't have jumped. Pretty relevant.

[–]lowrads1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I'm picturing an old fashioned sort of lock with a through and through opening for a skeleton key.

Presumably people carry too many keys, and that sort of design must have fallen out of favor as soon as an alternative became commonly available. Casual internet searches aren't revealing much information aside the the development of the actual mechanisms.

Development of more sophisticated locks picks up in the eighteenth and nineteenth century. The flat key lock is a refinement on an old design that emerges in the American interbellum period. Presumably, the longevity of prior designs on exterior doors likely lasts about as long as the doors do, and fashionable throwbacks persist for interior locking doors.

In the beginning of the 20th century, Slage invents the push button locking mechanism to locks that is so ubiquitous today.

All retards are utterly depraved, oversexed, simian, and dangerous; they need to be corralled and controlled, not included in normal society. Letting them think they're not retarded is deeply problematic and deleterious for the U.S. I think the audience was laughing at this imbecile more as an unfortunate attempt to include him in normal society (a huge blunder) as opposed to making fun of him because of his sex.

" your statement is contradictory as you decided to name the phenomena of so-called equality after a blatantly sexist slur against women."

You really are stupid, aren't you.

There's this phenomenon called the pussy pass where women get favorable treatment. Whether it's lighter sentences in court or people are more forgiving of their misdeeds or the fact that during domestic disputes, regardless of who's the abuser, the man gets taken away because women are automatically assumed to be innocent, they tend to have it better in most areas of life.

The denial of this pussy pass phenomenon, at least for the name of this sub, is pussy passed denied. Because it is the denial of the pussy pass. Read, homie. With your eyes. Read the words and try to comprehend.

Why do male judges give lenient sentences to women?

[–]tmone6 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

oh thats right. women are oppressed, but its the men who suffer.

men are twice as likely to get convicted than men.

men serve 65 percent longer sentences that women for same crime.

yet its the women who are the victims. give me a break.

women judges are a part of the problem too. this one doesn't think women can be pedos

[–]Aerofan2-2 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Oh yeah those 34% of judges are responsible for all of your problems, men are the ones that support those things because they have a positive bias towards women.

[–]tmone5 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

are you kidding me? feminist groups fight daily to maintain these structures and policies.

men are the ones that support those things because they have a positive bias towards women.

so men are ok with receiving longer sentences because it plays to their biases?? really??

NOW has actively promoted some of the myths surrounding gender disparity in sentencing, as shown in in this summer 2001 blog post about population increases in women’s prisons. The article mixes description of real issues (prison rape) with claims that women commit crimes only as accessories to male criminals, and uses an anecdotal description to suggest that female criminal behavior is a result of abuse by a man. The article goes on to lament that incarceration separates mothers from their children, a concern NOW hasn’t shown for imprisoned fathers in their advocacy for increases in prosecution of men unable to keep up with child supportobligations, and against shared custody proposals made by fathers’ rights groups. Feminist logic: female drug dealers are good and valuable parents, but fathers are disposable… except for their wallets.

Guidelines handed down in the UK in 2010 admonished judges to go easier on female offenders. In 2011 a UK Women’s Justice Task Force report offered the suggestion that women’s prisons in the UK be replaced with community service and mental health treatment. While the research done by the group making the suggestion is of interest, there is nothing in it to suggest that it is applicable only to women… yet the suggestion has not been extended to apply to male offenders

Feminists have power over the federal courts in a Republican Presidency? Hell no, it’s all white men, so stop fucking complaining, pussy

im sorry, I thought we were having a grown up conversation. if you are unable to articulate a well thought out rebuttal, perhaps you should stick to gaming.

Men face discrimination. i am sorry you do not see that. Systemic sexism is Bold.

  • Women are treated better in all aspects of the legal system. For instance, women receive lighter sentences and a higher chance of acquittal, simply for being women. http://www.terry.uga.edu/~mustard/sentencing.pdf

  • Men are significantly more likely to be the victims of violent crime (of which rape is included) than women. http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/content/glance/tables/vsxtab.cfm

  • Despite domestic violence being equally committed by women, only male perpetrators are arrested. 25 percent of men who call police for being DV are in turn arrested despite showing obvious signs of harm, while woman show none. DULUTH MODEL. http://www.csulb.edu/~mfiebert/assault.htm

  • The feminist definition of domestic violence has skewed arrest and prosecution philosophies, resulting primarily in having only male batterers criminally pursued. http://www.law.fsu.edu/journals/lawreview/downloads/304/kelly.pdf

  • 40-70% of domestic violence is against men however less than 1% of domestic violence shelter spaces are for men.

  • Men pay 97% of Alimony http://online.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052748703399204574505700448957522

  • Men commit suicide at over triple the rate that women do. 80 % percent. If women were killing themselves at the same rate, it would be national news and we would be in crisis mode. see .#bringourgirls home movement that failed to mention boys being being kidnapped or killed. Nobody cared.

  • Men receive 63 percent higher sentences than women for same exact crime http://www.law.umich.edu/newsandinfo/features/Pages/starr_gender_disparities.aspx

  • >"[w]omen are…twice as likely to avoid incarceration if convicted." This gender gap is about six times as large as the racial disparity.

  • Men are doing worse in all aspects of the educational system, from kindergarten to university. http://www.boysproject.net/statistics.html

  • Men who are falsely accused of rape can have their names published and their lives ruined even if they are not convicted or charged - their accuser is protected and is likely to face no punishment, or a light one. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-04-01/duke-lacrosse-players-suit-over-false-rape-claim-may-proceed-judge-says.html

  • Reproductive rights. Men have none. Simply read this story. http://www.reddit.com/r/science/comments/7x78v/what_do_modern_men_want_in_women/c07omtc

  • Parental rights. Men have virtually none.

  • 80 % of custody battles are won by the mother

  • A woman can name any man she likes as the father, he gets a letter in the mail, if he does not prove he isn't the father within 30 days—(suppose the letter gets lost by the USPS?)—he is now the father and must pay. He cannot contest it. http://reason.com/archives/2004/02/01/injustice-by-default

  • A boy who is the victim of statutory rape must pay child support to his rapist. http://www.avoiceformen.com/mens-rights/legally-obscene/

  • A man who is raped while unconscious must likewise pay child support.

  • A man who fathers a child and wishes to take custody may have his child adopted out against his will and essentially kidnapped http://www.fathersandfamilies.org/?p=19159

  • 80 percent rough sleeper, homeless are men, while only 1 DV shelter for men exists in the whole of North America. Male children will get kicked out of women shelters. • Despite men's need being arguably greater than women, government spending to help women is 10 to 100 times greater than that to help men. That figure is unrelated to medical spending.

  • In 2009/2010 it was $1,516,460 toward men and $57,562,373 toward women. In 2010/2011 it was $3,740,800 toward men and $48,331,443 toward women. In 2008/2009 the province dedicated $561,360 toward men's resources and $98,983,236 toward women's resources. • On some airlines, men were banned from sitting next to kids on airplanes, simply because they were men. Why? Because men are pedophiles, obviously. This ban remains on some airlines, such as Air New Zealand. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/travelnews/7957982/British-Airways-changes-discriminatory-seating-policy-for-men.html

  • Under a recent federal directive, men are convicted of rape in university campuses if the investigating board finds that the chances they committed the rape are at 50.00001% or greater.

  • The DOE policy in practice: Caleb Warner was accused of rape and expelled from the University of North Dakota, then his accuser was charged with filing a false report. He remains expelled as of June 2011. http://www.wdaz.com/event/article/id/6963/

  • Selective service. If men refuse selective service, they are denied:

    * voting * Ineligibility for opportunities that may be important to his future. * Inability to get financial aid for school. * Inability to be federally employed. * Inability to be employed by the local government. * Unable to get security clearance as a contractor. * Unable to get U.S. citizen if you're an immigrant. * Fine out the ass.

Women get all that for free.

go ask your Dad?

I'm sorry since you are 2 I'll make it easy.

You know those people who are bigger than you? Those are called Adults. Ask one of them what we are talking about. Become educated then when you are big you won't find yourself in a ridiculous show talking about how someone is abusing you.

You will be educated enough to see abusers before becoming involved with them.

Now Grow up and thank me later.

Peace Out

I have a relative that is abused by his partner. And yeah, there is a double standard that hurts him everyday. But fuck this hatesub and everything in it. Hating women does not help these men. Hatred is the source of their oppression. Downvoting Everytime it hits r/all. Please see a doctor, this place is carcinogenic.

[–]BestInHere8 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

No fuck you. This is their only way to cope. They literally have nothing left, and you want to take this sub away from them? This is not a hate sub, it just pointing out the difference. Men are reminded they are trash everyday, at least give them something to cope with so they can prevent from commiting suicide for sometime.

[–]sixshadowed-5 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

If they are suicidal they need a medical professional, not an echo chamber hategroup reinforcing the fuct up worldview that is making them sick.

[–]NoobifiedSpartan1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

This isn’t a hate group at all. It points out the fact that MEN DO NOT HAVE EQUAL RIGHTS. Pointing that out doesn’t make this a hate group. We have the right to point out inconsistencies just as much as feminists do, and you leftist cucks aren’t going to take that away from us by calling this a hate group. If you don’t like this sub, then leave. Go spend some more time on r/politics like I know you love to do (because that sub tooootally isn’t an echo chamber).

[–]MeatloafPopsicle-22 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Because men are stronger. Don’t be a pussy

[–]OpticAbyss13 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Are you fucking serious? Do you honestly think we should be able to jump off a building and not shed a tear? You need to be tested because you are the stupidest most ignorant person I've ever seen.

[–]MeatloafPopsicle-9 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

If my daughter locked me in my room and I jumped out the window to escape I’d feel like real stupid piece of shit.

[–]OpticAbyss7 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

So if you ended up in a hospital because someone locked you somewhere and you had to jump down 3 stories to survive, and then people laughed at you for what you went through , then you'd be completely okay with that?

[–]MeatloafPopsicle-7 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Well that would never happen to me because I’m not a moron, but yeah, that’d be ok.

[–]OpticAbyss6 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Alright if you really are okay with jumping off a building and not complaining or crying about it then why don't you? If you're so tough that jumping off a 3 story building won't effect you at all then prove your point and do it.

[–]MeatloafPopsicle0 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I already told you I would never do that because I’m not a moron.

[–]OpticAbyss8 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Who's the pussy now?

[–]MeatloafPopsicle1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Still the guy who let a girl lock him in a room

[–]OpticAbyss6 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

"Let her". So it's the man's fault that he got locked in a room by a woman? In your logic , if someone forcibly commits a crime against you with attempt to hurt you, Its the victims fault. So that means youre saying that women who get raped, it's their fault they get raped. Women who get shot? It's their fault. That's how you think.

[–]MeatloafPopsicle2 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Nope, I don’t think any of that. I think the guy is a moron for letting his girlfriend lovk him in a room.

[–]NoobifiedSpartan1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I’m honestly having trouble understanding how stupid you are. The guy can’t fucking control if he gets locked in a room by some psycho bitch. Quit trying to blame the guy you fuck, the woman is a crazy bitch. You’re presenting the biggest fucking double standard ever.

[–]Disasstah-10 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

[–]2Salmon4U8 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Also, the point still stands that if the genders were reversed, no one would have laughed

[–]BestInHere3 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

There's nothing funny about it. When you beat a dead horse over and over again, it's just not funny. Like Trump jokes, anyone who still laughs at them has no sense of humor.
