This is a queen.
Once I went to a low stakes professional mixer after taking a low dose edible. I have a bit of social anxiety, you see.
I made my way up to approach one of the speakers-a woman. I brought her a bottle of water from the stash in the back-my time honored trick for getting a speaker’s attention.
I patiently waited my turn....
And that’s when this old billy scrote guff interrupted me.
Being slightly stoned and really NOT having it, I was able to uncharacteristically detach and just observe what an ass he was and how everyone saw what he did.
He kept catching my eye as he bleated on, trying to get me to acknowledge him as a valid speaker.
The THC enabled me to observe him the way one might inspect a bug pinned in a lab experiment. I bet my slightly unblinking neutral face unnerved him since he started to stumble over his words
Finally I asked a question of the speaker, she turned to me gratefully, he slinked away, and now her company is a very profitable client.

An acquaintance - well-known for saying inflammatory things just to get attention - pipes up, "If men and women are equal, then I should be able to punch women!".
I was younger then and my anger immediately rose. I opened my mouth to say something when my drunk friend looks at him without missing a beat and says, "Ssh, the adults are talking," and goes back to our conversation without acknowledging his reaction or him at all.

My response to this is "anyone can use violence if necessary to escape a dangerous situation, especially against an adversary significantly larger and stronger than you."
I'm female and I've never had to hit a woman. Women not that much smaller than me have hit me or tried to, and I've always been able to easily push them away or restrain their hands or otherwise neutralize the "threat" without violent retribution.
So when men almost twice my size think they can't get through life without a license to brutalize people smaller than them, I just ask them why they can't hold themselves to the same standards as me? How come if I can use non-violent force to keep myself safe from women, a larger man can't?

It's a desperate attempt to shift the conversation into a domain where they feel powerful - physical violence. They don't want to defend men's treatment of women in a rational and humane conversation because they know they will stand no chance, so they appeal to women's fears of male violence and try to pretend that we don't live in a society with laws and rights. Yeah, it reminds me when I asked my parents when will my little brother start to commute to school alone without parents. My father asked me if I want him to get killed like this girl from the news. I don't remember what I answered but he started to yell at me, so I left the room and he continued yelling at me, asking why am I always running away. Then he gave me a silent treatment for a month. I'm scared even today to ask questions in fear someone could be furious. But it helped me to notice when people obviously want to create a conflict for their own entertainment and I back off quickly and grey-rock them.

I’ve never understood the weird level of hatred so many men have against astrology- it’s on par with their hatred of vegetarian and vegan diets. They can never leave it alone either, like most women are capable of if someone starts talking about a hobby or interest we don’t necessarily share. They always have to push their opinion down our throats and like you said, try to get us to explain the origin of astrology and theoretical concepts while they’re being skeptical and condescending.

Maybe holding astrology at the same level of contempt as economics ruffled feathers? Which I guess I can understand, some people really love it and build their lives around it. I find astrology a fairly tiresome modality and it’s because i’ve mostly encountered people who seem to use it to make reductive and dismissive pronouncements (‘it’s because she’s a Virgo!’) so I just don’t engage but I also bristle when I hear astrology summarily dismissed as ‘womens prattle’. It CAN be done in a way that’s illuminating and can create change in your life. A lot of ‘woo-woo’ stuff is useful 🤷🏼♀️ A better comparison might be to Jungian archetypes. Men seem to be all over those and they’re no more ‘scientific’ than astrological types but dudes see no irony getting reeeeeeeallly in their feelings about Jung 🙄 while disparaging ‘star signs’ to anyone who’ll listen.

I remember being in a zoom call, and it was hijacked by trolls who logged into the call and started yelling "TRUMP" this and "TRUMP" that. It was obnoxious.
THe admin closed the room, and re-sent a new zoom invite. Cut them off mid-sentence.
It was a great way to handle it. Nobody reacted. We were all just sitting there, jaw on the floor, for 10 seconds before the call disconnected and the host sent us a new zoom invite

I feel this, I have a coworker that tried to provoke me everyday by saying that women aren't as capable in the IT business. He always tried to talk my supervisor out of giving me the interesting stuff.
At the beginning I tried really hard to prove that I was capable and skilled enough. To no avail. He really strived on my desperate attempts to prove myself.
It took me month and FDS (thank you!) to realize that it was my attention, anger, frustration that he wanted. I still have the image of his slimy smile in my head..
Now I just hit him with "ok" or "alright" and then continue what I was doing, the satisfaction of his disbelief - it was great. Now he leaves me alone as I am not entertaining anymore.
He found a trainee from another department 10 years younger than him that he is now preying on.. This "man" is disgusting in every way Good thing is people start to speak up and complaints are rolling in about him. Time he gets what he deserves

A rule of thumb of mine is: If he is truly interessed in my opinion he shows me that he is eager to learn. This can be demonstrated by asking a very specific question that show that he already did his homework on the topic. A person who values your time don't ask you to teach them basics.

One of my fave memories of 2020 was being at a dinner, a scrotastic liberal white feminist was trying to mansplain BLM to me and why their verbiage was ineffective. Love this! Best way to respond to that sort of thing because what they want is a reaction and you can’t win by arguing with them, but by not engaging. It’s fun when someone tries to get a reaction out of you but can’t. Either that or simply walking away!
