Had a strange realization looking at ig today ...

Almost everyone I know who is married settled. I don’t think I know one woman in an LTR that even meets fds standards.

This isn’t to say that they are married to terribly “lv” men. But they’re married to men who need to split things 50/50, or who needed 3+ years to propose, or who are physically much less attractive than them, who have different spiritual beliefs, etc. The happier ones maybe compromised in the looks, wealth, or sex department and found someone with good character who subscribed to the current American ideal of 50/50... Others compromised substantially on some aspect of the life they dreamed of in order to marry. For example being the breadwinner when they actually wanted to be a stay at home parent until their kids went to school. Or dealing with challenging situations with their in-laws.

I just turned 32 and at times feel left behind in life by my friends who are married and are starting to get pregnant and have children, or purchase real estate, etc. But then I realized they all settled in some way. I’m happy if they’re happy and I’m not judging. I chose not to settle a couple years ago and took a long break from dating. As I think about re-entering the dating scene, I’m trying to get a handle on how to end up with the best possible match and not settle.

What do you ladies think? Does everyone have to settle to get married? What’s the most strategic way to be bulletproof against peer pressure to settle and conform, without offending friends who are okay with doing so in their own lives.

Was talking to a man on OLD, seemed nice, very polite. Things are going well so I did some background checks on him. He's a conservative, writes a conservative blog, works in government. The latter bit is good - it's a good job. But his blog being shared by right wing groups on social media doesnt sit right with me. I don't like to display my political leanings on OLD because I dont want to attract THAT kind of liberal man (u know the type I mean - flaky, thinks women are "liberated" if they sleep with him, wants me to pay for everything) but the fact is that i am more centre left in my leanings.

Does anyone have any tips for managing political leanings/preferences?

I have been lurking for a while and oh boy I needed this subreddit.

I finally realised how absolutely stupid I was for being in this really pointless long distance romantic but no commitment kind of a thing. 1 year, ladies! 🤡 That’s how much time I have spent not looking for anyone else at all. For some time it was worth it, I guess and I enjoyed it + I knew better than to expect him to one day realise he wants commitment. But oh boy did it hurt to realise that he would not even bat an eye and jump straight into any random dating opportunity if he had the chance, I really did think that what we had was special.

He basically lives in the other end of the continent and when we finally had a realistic chance to meet again, the enthusiasm... was just not there. I even offered to pay for the trip 🤡🤡🤡

Done, I am so done!

Why are men who aren't even total LVM so gift challenged?

Friend of mine said he was just going to cook dinner for his parents as a gift - he is a good cook but I was like dude, you can't just do dinner. At least get your dad a nice bottle of scotch, and your mom some wine or tea. I've never even met his parents but I could figure they'd like that and lo and behold, he was like yeah, you're right. He then proceeded to tell me he's a crappy gift wrapper!? I said to him you build computers, how is gift wrapping hard? And if this that hard, get gift bags and tissue paper at the dollar store 🙄 (almost every dollar store I've been to has had nice gift bags lol)

My idiot brother is pulling his whole "I didn't get anything cuz I didn't know what to buy." He bought a gift for me (which he never does, but I guess since he's married now we're being proper adults to each other) even though I didn't even ask for anything. He got my dad something because my dad told him what to buy. He got my mom nothing because he didn't know what to get her. I was like are you fucking kidding me. You've lived w/ this woman your whole life. My mom however is like me and most people, believing it is not a gift if I have to tell you to buy it. So I shamed my brother enough into buying something I think because he just asked me a couple hours ago about it, so actually i don't know that he's bought anything. It certainly won't be here in time, and I know my mom's going to feel hurt he bought every single person besides her a gift. Idiot 🙄. He's taking her for granted. And it's not like she ever babies him or anything. He's pulled this kinda crap before and we have all chewed him out, my mom included

I don't blame his wife for not cleaning up his mess, she said she would've bought something but doesn't know my mom that well. I said to her why should you buy it, it's his family? I told her what my parents like and said next time, you can decide on a category together, and he can do the work of buying a gift.

Tbh if I was in her shoes I would've told my husband I will not show up empty handed for his own damn mother, and if he doesn't buy her something, I'm buying her a gift from ME only. I kinda feel like she doesn't respect my mom either because of this, but at the same time, I don't want to encourage pickme behavior. Because this would still be a woman picking up a man's slack. I could see for some men, if their wife bought their mom a present from the wife only, they wouldn't be shamed, they'd be like "oh well my mom got a gift from my wife, that's basically me, good enough" My gut tells me my brother would subconsciously feel like this, even if we shamed him for it. Idk he's always treated his wife very well but he takes advantage of his family sometimes and acts really entitled with us.

I can’t tell if he got me Christmas present or not?

So I mentioned a few months ago to my husband (dated for 4 yrs and married in Oct. 2020) that I wanted to play this game called Hollow Knight. Unfortunately, the laptop I have does not have a graphics card that can withstand the game.

Anywho...flash forward to a few weeks ago and the TV in our living room dies. We do not have a back up for it so we have to purchase a new one. He then goes on to inform me that he had planned on buying me a gaming system and the game I mentioned...but now all of this money will be used to purchase a new TV. I say that was sweet of him to think of buying the game for me but I understand that the TV needs to be replaced.

So the new TV comes and i asked him this morning if he got me a Christmas present. He gestures to the TV and says that was my X-Mas present. I didn’t say” that was for the both of us”, even though that was what I was thinking.

I pointed out that he never asked me what I wanted for Christmas and that he had given me a list of what he wanted( I got him 3 things off his list). He then went on to say that the TV was expensive and this it counts as my birthday present too (my birthday is in March). So not only am I not getting a present for myself for Christmas, my birthday has been cancelled as well apparently.

Am I being a brat? What should I do? I should also mention, there is a chance he will still get me something small that he hasn’t told me about in an effort to surprise me but I’m weirded out by our conversation this morning.

I want to share a little victory! So I used ride horses religiously for over a decade. After college and getting married, I stopped for whatever reason. I have been divorced just about a year now and after eight years of not horseback riding, I went and met with a new trainer today. I don’t think it is the right fit but I’m so damn excited to be getting back out there. I know I’ll find the right situation.

A few more goals for the next year: -horseback riding weekly -run a 10k -start learning French -become a more confident cook -pay off my two remaining debts (car and mattress... don’t ask lol)

I feel so happy that I learned all this now, before wasting any more time to futureless relationships.

I am not going to see family because covid. It's funny how seeing people's social media still brings up feelings of unworthiness. And I have to put my phone down, run a mental tab, and backpedal. Then I remember this was a year of me actively leaving, turning down dates, relationships, people wanting to 'claim' me, and 20 minutes later, "come back to my senses" and feel truly glad every decision I made this year had been to not sell myself short long term.

Listening to Baroness’s Red album and just wanted to give a quick shout out to the scrote who once negged me for preferring the Purple album. Because having similar obscure music taste apparently doesn’t make you any more of a person to them. Also he spent the whole coffee/walk “date” checking out other women. This was a few years ago and I never saw him again after that. So yeah, merry fucking christmas and happy new beer.

ETA: How messed up is it that I felt I couldn’t call him out on checking out other women because we weren’t in a committed relationship, plus that would be so uncool of me? After all they were beautiful and he probably noticed the imperfections in my body, I thought at the time. I wish I hadn’t been conditioned to be so nice and polite that I didn’t dare leave in the middle of the so-called date. Far beyond this, the way I was raised by my family and brainwashed by society led me to inflict untold trauma on myself.

Okay, ladies. I'm having a moment of weakness here. I've read the FDS handbook. I know better than to engage in self-destructive behavior and getting hung up over a LV fucboi. I want to do better. But at the same time, love and sense of belonging are a literal need for the human species, as listed in Maslow's hierarchy of needs for instance. It's encoded into our being. We’ve been consistently going on dates and going on another one today. Things are so good between us and I look forward to our time together. He calls me every night, we talk about our day and he’s made effort to see me as much as he can when he’s not busy with band practice and recording. He has been encouraging my guitar practice, and is teaching me more of what he knows. He has played in a few bands which I love listening to. When he’s teaching me, it’s fun and it’s not a chore. Whenever I have questions about different things guitar-related, he’s steered me in the right direction with notes he’s made just for me, discussions, and sends me YouTube videos that him and his band mates have used as well to learn and improve their skills.

Guitar is something that I love so much and he knows I’m determined to get better, so his help is really awesome. He got me started again by gifting me an electric guitar of his a few months ago and writing down pages of notes, sitting down and spending hours teaching me, which meant a lot. I’m always going to keep that guitar, it’s sentimental to me and what it represents is special.

Two days ago, I bought a brand new guitar! It’s a shade of glossy pale pink with white pickups and silver knobs, and the neck is a light tan colour. This guitar has to be one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. It was $1400, an unexpected purchase, I only meant to window shop, but I couldn’t get my eyes off it. When I tried it out, I knew I had to have it. I told him about the guitar when we had our nightly call and he’s excited to see it in person and for us to have some guitar jams together again. I really appreciate how much he’s encouraged my guitar playing, he’s someone who I can talk to for hours about it.

Playing guitar and singing has been so cathartic and putting myself all into that lately has been extremely rewarding. I feel content focusing on myself and my hobbies, rather than trying to be someone I’m not. I was so frustrated a few weeks ago that I just avoided everyone’s texts/calls for about a week and a half because I didn’t have the patience to deal with anyone. A few people were getting on my nerves. Since I’ve been single, I’ve had a few people who I used to consider friends just be straight up disrespectful to me and make sexual comments out of nowhere. Like... wtf, dude. I’m single but that doesn’t mean I want to sleep with everyone. I AM SO TIRED OF THIS HAPPENING. I’m not going to even talk to that guy anymore because I feel disrespected and like I’m just a sexual object. I don’t exist to please anyone on this Earth, I exist for myself. I’m done with people who can’t just be friends with me. I have a lot to offer as a friend and I know that, I bring a lot to people’s lives, all most people have done is just take and take from me. Cutting even more people out of my life now. It’s gross knowing for years how many people I thought were friends only had ulterior motives. I’ve noticed it a lot since getting heavily into my guitar practice and singing, and taking care of my kitten. Most of the people who I cut out of my life didn’t care to hear about those things, they’d just turn the conversation sexual right away. Get out of here with that nonsense, I’m not interested. Thanks FDS for helping me gain confidence in myself and being able to assert my boundaries better instead of worrying about being rude, I don’t care anymore.

Also I realized I need to stop drinking, I have for the most part which is great. I’ve only drank twice in the past month or so when before I was drinking way more, daily.... The difference in how I feel is like night and day, and I’m proud of myself for sticking to it (except those two days). I wanted to see if I could drink without it ending badly, but I always cry, so it’s not worth it. Plus it’s awesome not waking up hungover. I feel like I have more energy, I’m more in control of myself and emotions, and just an overall level of calm even when I’m stressed out. Things don’t phase me as much. I might feel stressed or anxious about things but I’m able to manage it really well when I’m not drinking. So I’m gonna keep up with that because the benefits are great and I feel less desire to drink now that I have my kitten. She makes me really happy and we’ve bonded so much, she’s always cuddling me or following me around the house. She’s helped me weed out more people of my life and I’m grateful. Having her has brought this new sense of confidence and belief in myself too, especially when I see her beautiful eyes looking up at me while she’s in my arms purring. I love her more than anything in this world.

Anyways, I’m really happy! I have a date tonight, and we’re both excited to see each other and sing/play guitar together so it’s going to be an amazing time!

I blocked and deleted a ‘friend’ I’d known for 12 years a couple of months ago. I confessed to an assault from years ago and he tried to shame me for how I reacted to it. When I tried talking to him about isolation and my OLD experience, he wouldn’t listen and just told me to get therapy. This was a person who would invite me out and then I would discover it was a group invite and he would not talk to me all night or would be hours late to clubs. He didn’t check on me even thou I was struggling. I realised I kept talking with him because I did not have any other friends irl and would fall back due to loneliness. That is my goal for next year ... new hobbies and new friends.

Progress update: Christmas is just about here and i've posted on here a lot on the last 5 months ish of me moving out, stepping away from dating, and working on myself. I have come to the decision to not put myself out there at all in the dating realm.

with the holidays coming, I feel really down. I wanted to do something fun this year and go somewhere special, but I cant with the pandemic going on. its not safe, and there's nothing to do anyways! I wanted to visit my family but theres a travel restriction now. they put grandpa in a nursing home - who knows when visitors may be allowed? the next time I see him could be at his funeral. last New Years I ugly cried, the LVM I was dating stood me up on New Years , and it was last minute I couldn't even go to a friends house in time. I was devastated and promised myself New Years 2021 would be better, haha. I used to love the holidays, but Ive been avoiding everything to do with them, just like I am avoiding men.

i've gotten closer with my one friend and sister, and I've been slowly showing them how to value themselves and set higher standards. my friend had stepped away from dating too. I also opened my sisters eyes about how some of the "love songs" she listens to are not "love" at all, ie "shape of you", "happier", and "sofa" by ed Sheeran have some nasty toxic lyrics.

side note: my sister texted me some more info she got on the military guy my mom wanted to set me up with this Christmas. I told my mom off again a few weeks ago after my sister and I did some digging and found he has strong opposing political views he advertises online, makes fun of mental illnesses, and publicly shit posts his ex (literally uses her name). the latest thing we saw was that 1. he made a post about how lonely he is and how hard it is to find a good woman like he deserves and 2. he posted a photo of himself dressed in furry suits with other people, most of which were low value women ... ladies if you need more confirmation about seeing the first red flag and running this is it. the more my sister digs on him the worse and worse he gets (dont worry I have never met him or talked to him, he was a stranger my mom was really pushing to set me up with and my sister helps me tell my mom off) We were worried that if I did come home for Christmas that she would have set something up so that he's at my house and I end up being surprised/forced into meeting him, as she was actually discussing it a few times. It is a blessing in a way that I cant travel home because of the pandemic restrictions!

lastly, there was a guy that actually got murdered in the apartment near mine, and then a robbery. so I started looking for other places to move and now covid got stricter im getting run arounds from landlords and other places are telling me I cannot tour the houses before moving in, they want me to just sign a lease and then see the house when I move in. so I talked to my mom about moving home and ive been applying for jobs there and I keep getting rejected or told they aren't hiring right now (my home state is super strict and unemployment is soaring especially there w covid) so she told me stay with the temp job that hired me here, keep my gun ready, etc and if I cant get another place to move home in the spring. I dont want to move home, but im so done with apartments so Ive been in contact with landlords to rent nicer houses in nicer neighborhoods. I liked the idea of my cheapish apartment but id rather pay and have peace of mind.

one guy at the apartment was sort of hitting on me when I first moved in here, he kept checking me out and smiling, and came over and started talking to me real friendly, complimenting me and my car, and then the other day a woman around my age was outside ive never seen her before and she's like oh you're the out of state plate, thats your car, and she starts telling me like trying to brag she bought another car and I was like "got, cool" and walked to my car and she's like "yeah my husband was saying how you drove that car and he was talking to you." and she was very defensive/had a nasty attitude... like damn! the man that was hitting on me and whatnot had been MARRIED the whole time... and then she gets hostile to me (I only made polite conversation and would smile back at him, I thought he was single since he was hitting on me!) like sis, get on some clown makeup that man would jump into my pants and cheat on you the second I actually gave him the time of day, why you mad at me, he's the issue, dump him! and now my other neighbor is saying that chick is saying she never got her packages and thinks "someone that lives in a nearby unit stole them" and was trying to accuse me, after the "My HuSbAnD" incident. I hardly have ever seen this female clown but from now on im wearing my sunglasses and gonna straight up ignore her, she and hEr HuSbAnD are more reasons to move

My friend (26F) is with a LVM (I don't even know him yet in person but his actions speak loud) she met at her job. For about 1 year my best friend was the 'mistress', meaning the guy had an official girfriend and she was 'the other one' I tried to convince her to leave him constantly and when she was finally determined, the guy left his official girl and asked my friend to be exclusive. The thing is that the guy is amazing at planning dates (he does elaborated plans for my friend, he pays, gifts, attentive words...) and treats her very nice in general so my friend is totally hooked and lovestruck but I can't get over the fact that he made her endure being the lover FOR ONE YEAR. When I hinted her that the guy is not the one and she should leave she got a bit mad so I don't know what to do... She deserves a HVM, she's pretty, fit, independent, financially well managed, has a degree, I don't know how a girl that is managing her life nicely ends always with weird dudes.

It's ironic that a dating sub convinced me to take a break from dating, but it's absolutely the best thing I've done for myself this year. I had been compulsively using OLD for ages, desperately seeking connection and validation, and finally deleted my accounts. Without being distracted by LVM, I feel so focused and motivated on self-improvement. I just got my grades back for my first term of grad school and I got a 4.0 (something I never did in undergrad). I'm also at the highest level of fitness I've ever been. I sincerely attribute a significant part of these successes to FDS philosophy. It's hard to express how grateful I am for the wisdom you ladies share on here every day.

Here’s my question: Am I too ugly to be a HVW?

I just found this sub and I’m a newbie, so bare with me if I’m doing this wrong.

I’m 23 years old, I’m plus-size and I’ve never been kissed and never been asked on a date and obviously, im a virgin.

Now, I myself am generally pretty confident. In fact, I’ve had girlfriends tell me my confidence is an imposition to men asking me out because I may seem likely to say no. I’ve had ONE embarrassing pickmeisha moment that amounted to rejection. But aside from that, I’ve never begged for men or accepted poor treatment just for validation. I do have a strong sense of self worth, I’m friendly with a lot of men and flirt too, but I’ve never been asked out.

Now, FDS philosophy says that women shouldn’t ask men out and that if a man wants a woman, he will pursue her. But I’m really struggling to reconcile that with the fact that no man has ever expressed romantic interest me. Regardless of whether or not I exhibit characteristics and traits of a HVW, how can I be a HVW if in fact no men want to be with me (if it is in fact the case that a man will speak up if he wants you).

And I guess a second part to this is, how do I go about finding a partner if no men ask me out? I already know I have to lose weight but still. Thanks ladies 💜

1 month of celibacy down!!!! Very proud of myself ...I was using sex as a quick fix for so many things, that would just hurt me in the end. I’ve cut back the amount of pot I was smoking by a lot. Already, my head is clearer. Everyday, I am on the crusade to find more anti-porn resources to share with my fellow ladies, and tonight I’m ordering Gale Dine’s Pornlandia. I also realize, I’ve never read George Orwell’s Animal Farm! So I’m gonna order that too and have a blast when my books get here. As days pass, and I stay away from searching thru validation in sex& drugs, I feel more satisfied and excited to do my newfound hobbies. I’ve turned some of my girlfriends on to FDS/ideology! They have banded with me in support of celibacy until we find one who’s worth it. I am realizing my pickme ways and shedding them. Love & Light to all you ladies.

Not sure if there is something in the water or what, but in the last few days I have been hit up by 4 different men in thinly veiled attempts to get in my pants. Guy #1 I went on two dates with about 5 months ago - he texted me at 12:30am. Instant block (he had been deleted, just not blocked). Guy #2 hit me up on FB - I didn't even know him but we had mutual friends. Instant block & report because his messages were quite harassing. Guy #3 was someone I went on two dates with a month ago & we mutually agreed it wasn't going to work out. He was a pretty nice guy, but gave me weird vibes. Didn't even respond - just blocked. Guy #4 was a LVFWB I hooked up with right after my last relationship when I was crazy vulnerable. He treated me like a vagina on wheels until I found FDS, leveled up, and blocked him. He texted me from a SECOND NUMBER after he figured it out. That one is now blocked too.

I feel great. Old Pick-Me version of me would have failed to read between the lines and would have felt validated by all this attention. New leveled-up me is laughing at the fucking audacity of their desperation. My state went into a second round of lockdowns not long ago so I am assuming that is what has prompted this shit.

Even though I have a meanish sense of humor, my personality is largely sweet and silly. A lot of people describe me as "sweet and innocent", and I can't help but think it's an insult. Does this mean I'm immature? Or that I seem immature?

For the record, I'm not innocent. I'm just asexual and childfree.

I know I might come across as an incel or pick me whatever but feeling unwanted is prob the root of my depression tbh. Bc I don’t go out enough and meet new ppl I allow bad ppl in if that makes sense... and this year has been so frustrating bc I couldn’t meet new ppl either Urgh
