I was just discussing this with ladies the other day. I FEEL it, especially since PornHub is under fire recently and only more investigations are needed. Lots of shady shit (did you know Cornell was one of their early investors?). It’s going to drive a wedge into libfem because they’re going to see they can’t defend sex work while stuff like this goes down. To defend it is to protect the men getting away with all sorts of crimes, apart from the ones against women.

So I don't remember where this is from or who said it but it was a comment about how society HATES the idea of women whose lives do not revolve around men or children. That a woman alone, content and fulfilled, is a concept too alien or too dangerous for the world. It's impossible for the patriarchy to acknowledge that women are complete beings, and thus capable of living happy lives on their own, just with themselves (women's social networks don't count of course - what value could women bring to each others lives, those silly little girls).
I wish I remember the source because it definitely used better words to capture the sentiment.

When I was telling my aunt that I wasn't going to have kids and didn't care about getting married she was shocked. She wrote it off as the rambles of a young girl with no understanding of the world. But I clearly remember her asking me, "what are you living for?" At 17 I scoffed at that question, I didn't have the eloquence to explain or honest comprehension of what SHE meant by that.
I think back on that often. She's not the only woman, and plenty of men think it too. Unmarried and/or unused uterus doesn't render a woman pointless. Sadly most of my family believes it. The shit I've heard behind my back... Thankfully they're mostly back in my native country and very easy to avoid.
When I got married, she called to tell me to get knocked up quickly so he has no reason to leave me. He can leave me if he likes - I'll be sad and probably need a lot of time to heal if it's sudden but I'll survive. My life doesn't revolve around him. And I'll certainly leave if he stops adding value to my life or if he tries making it worse.

It's not worth arguing with people who see the world through such narrow eyes. If they can't imagine fulfillment outside of these parameters, it's not my responsibility to fill in for their lack of imagination. I can understand how husbands and children can bring someone happiness, even if I choose not to go down that path, because I have empathy, and I listen, and I don't judge nor do I condescend. If they can't return the favour well, I lose nothing. My world remains big while theirs inevitably shrinks.

One of my goals in life is to open an animal sanctuary. i moved out on my own with Rapunzel 6 days after i graduated high school and it was the best decision i’ve ever made, i would recommend it to every woman, when safety allows of course. i know without doubt now that i can support myself and not rely on another

Oh, this post made my day. I was trying to stop sulking about being single today and bought myself a bunch of shit on amazon and played with my cat. My friends are all hanging out with their families or their SO's. COVID has squelched most of what used to be my amazing social life. But this post makes me feel better. I absolutely have a great career, money, car, I have a huge down payment for a house in a super high COL city just waiting for the right place to come on the market.
