Yes, women can feel empathy for men and vice versa. Empathy is about understanding another person's feelings. We can logically understand other people's feelings even if we have hard time relating to them or we do not agree with them. Empathy doesn't necessarily mean that you feel sympathy or want to help another person either.

"Women cannot love unconditionally" - no one can. Even parental love has the condition of actually being parents/playing the parental role.

Examples of women being sympathetic (because I think you're talking about sympathy really and not just empathy) - there are female volunteers helping the homeless and the majority of homeless people are men. There are more female volunteers working with kids as well. On an individual level women help their male relatives, friends and partners as well as some strangers. Do you want some personal examples?

I’ve had women feel empathy for me before and still have women feel empathy for me… and i am a masculine man. The same goes for my other male friends and the male friends of my female friends. One of my exes still cares about me even though she broke up with me 10ish years ago, the same goes with women i’m not close to anymore who had things end either due to drifting apart or ending in good terms.

recent examples of me personally empathizing with men: this week my dad’s job was extra stressful and he looks straight up depressed, it made me anxious today bc i can’t help him with it. my brother and his wife just traveled internationally with a one year old, it was hell, i felt for him. i talked a suicidal best friend off a metaphorical ledge when we were in high school, lost both of his parents and didn’t get his dream school/band, was one of the most painful intense things ive felt for someone. he’s doing great now so i just feel joy whenever i think about him. would die for any of my inner circle male friends and family.

a smaller but interesting example, on tiktok i saw a guy get emotional when he shaved his beard and his daughter saw him for the first time and called him beautiful, asked if he could look like that all the time. i wondered why he was so emotional about it and it dawned on me that he was deeply insecure about his non-beard face and hoped his daughter wouldn’t think he was weird looking now. the relief and love and pride he must have felt in that moment.. just beautiful. despite the tragedy of the pain he has carried through various insecurities. that applies to damn near everyone, and i especially empathize with people who have self esteem issues cuz i struggled with it too

Sure, women are the more empathic sex on average and i'd say you cannot choose if you cognitively understand someone else's emotional state. You just do. Especially in the first few years of their life when they are not verbal it is absolutely necessary to empathise with your kid. He is a young adult now (19), and doing fine. He is a very empathic little dude, has a lot of friends, has a strong social antenna, is able to read the room, et cetera.

I think the real issues for men is two things:

Can that empathy can be stronger than fear? (Experience tells me no, women will protect themselves under almost every circumstance, especially if it comes to a man. Not every time I hope, but most.)

Can women empathize for a man and also find them attractive? (Experience tells it's possible, but very rare.)

I think you can go farther as a nonthreatening man in terms of how you're treated or cared about than as a dangerous one. But on the whole, you're still looking for a rare thing no matter how you slice it.

So learning to care for ourselves or each other will always make more sense as a general advice. But that's not because men are better at it, it's just that wayyyy more women are decidedly hostile to the idea.

Of course we can. We're all human, and we've all had to deal with loss, grief, loneliness, sadness, feelings of inferiority, and other general psychological unpleasantness. I don't think everyone can empathize with everyone about everything though. I don't know if every man can empathize with the unpleasant feeling of, say, worrying whether someone genuinely likes you as a person, or they're just using you to fill in a generic woman-shaped hole in their life, maybe they've never gone through that themselves and it's hard to see things from that perspective. I don't know if every woman can empathize with the unpleasant feeling of, say, being unable to express your sadness and hurt in the worry that you'll be considered weak and pathetic, maybe they've never gone through that themselves and it's hard to see things from that perspective. 'Feeling' true empathy is not the same as 'giving' true empathy. You can both 'feel' true empathy but not 'give' true empathy. It sounds contradictory but it's not. Case and point. A mother can 'feel' truly empathetic towards their children but also 'give' true empathy that ultimately is detrimental to that child's wellbeing. Like loving a child so much that you don't ever let the child experience what it is like to fail or to experience a setback. The mother thinks she's doing her child the grandest of all grand gestures of empathy but in reality, is setting a stage up for that child to have unrealistic expectations of how the real world and the people in it 'work'. Do it enough times and a long enough time period (it doesn't take much) and pretty soon, you'll have a child with NPD and BPD tendencies.

This phenomenon isn't unique to women, by the way. Men do it too. What that exact percentage breakdown between the gender divide will vary, depending on where and who you are asking.

I have had 6 LTRs and several shorter ones. I have only felt what I define as true love (as defined by a male perspective) from one of these LTRs. I think that men and women have different conceptions of love and so often it doesn't feel like love from the other side. In all other cases other than the one, I felt that she held a core of selfishness within the relationship and as if her feelings, wants, and desires were intrinsically more important than my own. It felt like a lack of empathy.

Here's a thought: imagine that a husband and wife are in a bad car wreck, and the wife is trapped in a burning car. everyone would consider the husband a pussy if he didn't fight to save his wife up to and including dying while trying. now, switch the genders. the wife could run off screaming into the night for help, and people would tell her "you did the right thing".

Further, imagine a common reaction to seeing a man and woman, separately, walking down the interstate. The natural reaction (an empathetic one) towards the woman is to wonder if she needs help. The guy is more likely to be viewed as some dirt bag predator.

Can women show empathy for men? Sure, but it is way less than I’ve seen in reverse. Women give out more “man up” type responses than men do, and tend to run out of patience with struggling men (individually and collectively) way faster.
