I know that the narrative on reddit is that women are independent queens who don't want kids and men manipulate women into marriage or something like that. However, in the real world, when I observe actual couples, I usually see a man who is hesitant to take the next step and a woman who has to basically convince him to marry her and have a kid. I know women who pester their boyfriend for years and years for marriage and kids. I know women who have intentionally skipped the contraceptive pill in order to become pregnant and later admitted it to their friends. Even my aunt said that her late husband didn't really want any of their kids but was dumb when it came to sex so she tricked him into getting her pregnant.

The point is that it's primarily women who push for marriage and kids. I think that if it wasn't for societal and familial pressure, a lot of men would be perfectly fine with being a forever boyfriend and never getting married or having kids. Even men who do want kids, often want the "legacy", not the kids themselves.
