The theories have been discussed to death on here, women seek the highest value men while men seek any available female etc. But one thing that doesn't add up from all that: the question of why women are much more focused on beautifying themselves than men?

There's no question that men are also focused on their appearances. There's a reason "just have a shower/get a haircut/hit the gym/wear better clothes, bro" became a meme as a fix-all solution to the incel problem, and the male fitness industry does an effective job making young men feel insecure about their bodies. But while women also face the same pressure about their bodies, on top of that the female beauty industry earns vast profits pushing a million skincare, haircare, makeup products to them. Not to mention that cosmetic surgery to alter their appearances are much more common for women than men.

So women and men face roughly equal pressure to be physically fit, but women also face pressure to use skincare products (to cover up any flaws in their appearances), to use makeup (to enhance/accentuate their facial features), and to remove their body hair (because apparently looking prepubescent is appealing to some men).

Why is this the case? If it is the case that only the most attractive/highest value males attract female attention, should it not be the men who make their skin look flawless and enhance their facial features and remove their body hair to look young and pretty for women?

A friend of mine is a stereotypical "butch lesbian" who has a masculine hairstyle and would rather die than put on makeup, and mostly hangs around in lesbian social circles. She still gets more attention from men in a week than an average straight man gets from women in a year. That suggests women do not need these products or the illusion of femininity.

Obviously there are exceptions, like Islam where women are told to cover themselves from head to toe to avoid male attention. But even then, sexual harassment is endemic in countries where the veil is worn. The hijab is probably the most sexualised and fetishised item of clothing in human history. As vile and disgusting as sexual harassment is, I think that proves that women do not need to beautify themselves to attract males.

While I disagree with most/all redpill narratives, I think it's fair to say most hetero men would take the opportunity to sleep with any willing woman who wasn't physically repulsive (and the threshold for what is considered too repulsive to have sex with is much, much higher for men than for women). Surely then, all most women need to do to secure sex or a relationship with a moderate or even high value man is maintain a basic level of physical fitness (and even that is negotiable when talking of sex alone). While men should have to keep fit in addition to beautifying themselves enough to be seen as the most valuable available male?
