Men or women, if you have to lie about your job to make the potential partner like you, find a new fucking partner. Where the hell did all the "be yourself" talk go? Am I the only one left who doesn't give two shits if someone I just met will actually like me. If I met a women that made more than me, fine, I don't care. If she traded up for a guy who made more than me then yeah I feel like shit for a little while but I'd know I should be glad she left because someone who cares that much about money is not worth my time.

I'm very confused. These women seem almost offended that men won't date them (because they make more/ have better jobs)-- but then they turn around and ridicule those same men. Sour grapes? They obviously want dates with these men or they wouldn't lie about their occupations to get them-- but at the same time these men are "slackers" who need to grow up?

Oh, silly me, here was me thinking that all those reports in the papers and on the telly about this or that factory or company closing down and sacking 3,000 or 12,000 staff were actually, like, true and stuff. The article is using the old "you can't take a strong woman argument". Well, let's see: women tend to marry up, men to marry down. Women who refuse to go for less educated/less wealthy men are applauded, it's their choice after all. So why can't it be men's choice to not marry up? I've heard many times that women don't owe men anything when it comes to dating, well then why is the opposite implied? Why do these "successful" women deserve to find a mate? They don't, it's the prevalent female entitlement surfacing again.

I get the feeling that there were a bunch of rational feminists who, back in the day, got together to list grievances and make things more fair. This turned into a movement, lost direction, and now we sit in a world with inequality on both sides, where those more concerned with their rights argue amongst each other while bigoted people everywhere else of both sexes take whatever advantage they can get to further their own agendas, fair or not.

It does read like women are making excuses for being single that place all the blame on the men. This is a common defense for both genders though. Earning power can be the favorite excuse for women while men can stick with assuming women not interested in them are lesbians. Of course I have never met a man that actually uses that cliched excuse. Oddly enough I have met several women that assume a guy is gay for not being interested in them but they usually voice it in an insulting manner. A highly hypocritical bit of slander if they have ever championed gay men in the past.

For all that there seems to be a great deal of cynicism around this article, did anybody else notice that the author trotted out with an argument refuting the wage gap? Somehow, I don't think that an article in a popular venue that both appeals to issues of self-esteem and off-handedly refutes the popular oversimplification of the wage gap as if it is a done deal is entirely a bad thing (in a Machiavellian sort of way).

They're getting turned down for other personality defects (personality defects possibly associated with their rise to power, but not because of that power or income).

Most likely they're lonely becuase they subconsciously disqualify guys that make less than them, and then try to ratianlize it by pretending the guys they do want are intimidated.

Women don't want the same things in men that men want in women, we are not equal, only sometimes similar. Sometimes. Also, the women who are the most extreme feminists aren't exactly the most feminine types, they are the manly women.

Have there ever been a society where women weren't valued for their looks or where men weren't valued for their status/resources?

I've always been sceptical to claims like these, history isn't linear and the future won't be either. We're either going to ruin our planet or become much, much richer materialistically speaking, and we're already pushing the border at which we don't get any happier because of more stuff. So the world will inevitably change in ways we can not imagine, and which will eclipse the change in relations between women.
