Context: I'm a young man in my early 20s, who's a virgin and has never had a girlfriend. But I had also, never, not even once in my whole life, ever expressed interest in a girl, asked a girl on a date, even tried to flirt, etc.

A few months ago I finally asked out a girl in one of my classes out. I didn't know her or anything, we'd only talked a handful of times, first time i've ever done anything like that. But she said yes. Granted , we didn't go on any more dates after the first, but she was also quite out of my league and I feel like if I tried a couple more times I could probably do okay romance-wise. But tbh it was stressful enough that I don't think I'm going to try again for a long while, if ever.

I'm not trying to say "all you need to do is put yourself out there" etc. I know plenty of people HAVE tried but been demoralized by loneliness and lack of romantic/sexual success. But I do wonder if there are a large proportion of young people who really could benefit from just putting themselves out there a little bit.
