Basically just the title. This is a true Q4All discussion thread. No agenda, no hidden CMV. I'll try to expound a little more, if only to hopefully avoid the shitpost filter.

I can start by defining Foodie Call for the uninitiated:

A person who goes out on dates with the sole purpose of getting a free dinner.

There's also this article from Psychology Today which goes into more detail.

Some other questions/considerations before you reply:

  1. Titular question, how common is it? You can suppose statistics or just give a rough summary of how you think this phenomenon plays out in the real world.
  2. Do you think Foodie Callers are just scammers/opportunists through and through? Or are there maybe people who choose to do it situationally?
  3. Can a person be a foodie caller subconsciously? In other words, they fit the pattern of only dating for free food/entertainment (perhaps by simply refusing second dates with an overwhelming majority of suitors), but they don't recognize this pattern in themself and insist they're not doing it intentionally. (I can point to a thread where a lot of the replies sounded like this, so it kinda sparked my interest in the topic.)
  4. Assuming you think it's a common phenomenon, do you have any recommendations for protecting oneself against it?
  5. Assuming you think it's a rare phenomenon, do you find it offensive that people bring it up at all?
