As guy, if you’re under an 8/10 objectively, I say stay off them. I’ve found success though. But living in the middle of nowhere, not much. Idk how many matches I’d get if I lived somewhere with a lot of attractive women. But I always found myself swiping “no” 90% of the time.

Everyone seems to have the concept of the cute girl that has thousands of likes in her queue, matches most of the time, sifts through all the guys asking her out, and goes on dates whenever she wants.

I'm a guy and I would say most of those things apply to me. I get plenty of likes on tinder, but it's hard to say exactly how many. Tinder says 99+ and when I tried tinder gold (not worth it) it said 9,999+, so you can't actually see the total. But I've also had this tinder account for like 5 years and I live in NYC, so you would expect numbers to accumulate.

I probably swipe right a 5% of the time, maybe a little more, and I would guess that maybe I match with 1/4. I think that's the big difference. Attractive women tend to match with the vast majority of their swipes. Still at 1/4 I get enough matches that I can get multiple dates in a weekend (between Tinder, Hinge, and Bumble).

Dating apps have been my primary way of meeting women since I graduated from college. It's a lot harder to meet people organically as an adult, so the apps have been helpful. Certain things feel scammy, there are tons of bots on tinder, and it requires a lot of swiping, but having the apps is definitely better than the alternative for me.

Most of my friends seem to do at least okay on apps, with Hinge being the preferred app. I know a lot of guys who have met their gfs through Hinge.

Maybe not the top 5%, but I know guys who slay on there. My friend’s ex FWB who lived in the projects and had no job had tinder girls blowing up his phone constantly when they were together. He’s a tall, skinny Dominican guy with tattoos. My brother who isn’t entirely conventionally attractive (5’8, half Asian in the south) but is in a frat went out with different tinder girls in his college town every week til he met his current gf. And according to my friend who’s an army wife, the most mediocre looking military guys get matches for days if they post pics in their uniforms.

I might be top 5%. I’ve gotten hundreds of matches and get dates relatively easily. I have rarely met any women I consider girlfriend material though, and have put up with tons of rudeness and misandry. Rejection is the least of my worries.

Yes I know several guys who crush it on dating apps. I’m talking 2 LTRs and 10 FWBs in a 2-3 year period, and all the girls fairly attractive. Every guy I know who meets this description is attractive, but they have variations in personality. One guy is funny and outgoing, the other makes a lot of spelling mistakes and invites the women straight over for sex, the third is a generic bluepilled simp.

From a pure redpill “game” perspective I have more experience than them, I got into PUA in my 20s and have done maybe 6000 approaches and gotten about 100 sexual partners from that, but I am not as attractive (and a minority) so I get less traction online.

One thing I’d say is that the attractive guys tend not to optimize because they don’t need to. None of my hot friends have high quality pics with a DSLR, in fact I took a pic of one of my friends which showed off his jawline and his matches spiked, he had no idea he was underperforming his potential because he was already getting matches. Necessity is the mother of invention as they say. If you want to optimize your OLD profile, don’t ask a Chad, ask an ugly guy who grinded his way into a girlfriend. The latter probably knows what works, and Chad would do even better with that knowledge.

I’m slightly reluctant to say, but I think I may be included in the top percentiles. 6’3”, conventionally handsome, physician in a major city with my own practice. I drive a luxury sport sedan and live in a trendy city home that has been professionally decorated.

No problem meeting women traditionally or online, I would average 20-25 matches a day in the apps. Out and around town, I can’t remember the last time I went and approached a woman, I usually wait and let them approach me or make themselves available. Most don’t care if I’m out with someone else when they approach, they’ll slide phone numbers on napkins, write them on takeout boxes etc.

Not all butterflies and rainbows. At this point I’m somewhat jaded, and over dating. I have a hard time trusting women, given the sneaky and underhanded things I’ve seen them do to get what they want. Most recently, a friend’s new love interest took it upon herself to hit on me and inform me that if I wanted to date her, she’d drop him in a heartbeat (yes I told him asap).

All things considered, I still wouldn’t trade with my friends that have a harder time dating. The amount of disrespect they deal with is maddening.

I am one I think. For context i have like 1300 pending tinder likes and if I unpause my Hinge I probably average around 50-100 likes a week.

My profile is in my history (changed since then but you’ll get an idea). Dating apps work better for me than in real life interactions. The girls ill match with are in a higher league than those I would find in my local bar on a weekend.

I enjoy dating apps a lot and recreationally used it to have fun in a new city while working my first professional job. I didn’t have trouble going out with attractive girls at all and could easily go on 3~ dates a week if I wanted to. I did get Tinder platinum bc it just seemed worth it given I had no friends here. I ended up finding a relationship after 6~ months, didn’t have any intentions about getting into it, just really liked her so haven’t been on it for the last 5~ months.

I am not particularly attractive. I am 23, 5’11, 145~ lbs, not super athletic, etc. I am not white either. I make $70-80k CAD working at a small consulting firm and running a little small online business, but nothing crazy that would make girls go crazy for me.

I mostly attracted University girls, and more so the Artsy type. I think the reason I was successful is mostly because I was just very relatable for most girls bc I understood their references (had a lot of female friends in University), my profile was pretty tailored in depicting me as an artsy person, and I just didn’t take myself too seriously. My bio was “lets pretend (our Mid sized Canadian city) is NYC together.” I would also just never really make generic small talk (hey, how’s your day, what are you up to, etc).

So this might sound like a humble brag, but I think I am in that category? I don't think I am great looking, but the two times I have used dating apps I have met up with someone and deactivated my profile on there even before really finishing filling it out.

But this isn't some plate spinning thing. I want to meet someone, contact some people, meet someone, we click, get off the app.

I think the 'paying for membership' stuff is the apps taking advantage of vulnerable depressed users. Similarly to how mobile games are designed to exploit the sorts of people who play slot machines rather than be actual games.

Why do you think your profile works?

I think the point of your profile is to look appealing to the people you want to be in a relationship with. You're not looking to be in a relationship with generic woman. You're a weirdo, and you're looking for a woman who is your kind of weirdo too. So you need to artfully drop hints about what kind of weirdo you are, structured in a way that prompts them to want to engage with your profile.

"Would you rather do A or B on a weekend?" is my secret. It shows them two different things about you, if they are into either A or B and enjoy them then you are showing you have overlapping interests, plus it's really easy for them to comment and tell you which one they would rather do.

The other thing I would do is not make your profile too 'one note'. Like, the woman I am dating now, I had seen her profile but chosen NOT to engage because EVERY SINGLE PHOTO was her walking her dog in nature. And I get it, those are her 6 best photos. But I struggled looking at those pics to get a sense of what a relationship with her would be like other than 'walking her dog in parks'. Which is great and all, but not intellectually stimulating and not really a good foundation for a relationship.

What general advice do you have to be more successful with online dating.

Pics - Main one is a close up of your face. You need to have your eyes visible and be smiling in every photo. At least one photo showing your full body. Be clean and well groomed in all photos, wearing decent clothing. At least one photo showing you eating a meal, better if it's completely staged (so she can imagine what going on a date with you might look like). Other photos in interesting places etc. Prompts: One general one saying a bit about you, maybe your core values and what yo uare looking for. Two different prompts asking questions, e.g. Would you rather A or B? What's your best time doing X?

The one guy I knew that cleaned up on Tinder, was average height and average looks. But he had a lot of "game" and was a total party animal. He basically oozed confidence and sex appeal, which was all that was necessary. I wish I could be more specific, but I can't. When a guy just "has it" and carries himself a certain way that works for him, women are drawn to it.

Obviously, better looking guys will also do well, but they can struggle if they don't have the confidence and game, and have shitty bio pics on the apps.

the funny part for me was when I started having good success on dating apps I realized most of the girls off them weren't interesting. I spent ages going "I need to get my online good to get a dating stream going" then when I did every single date I got was boring and the only thing the girl had going for her was her looks. It made me realize I vet a lot harder than I initially thought and it's a lot easier to do when you can actually have a conversation with the girl before asking her out.

My brother. He's beautiful and photogenic. Also a photographer, so he knows how to take good pictures. He looks like The Dead Zone version of Christopher Walken.

He didn't get too many repeat dates until he added "autistic af" to the end of his list of niche interests. That was my idea to front load his personality and habits. It worked. Apparently NT women line up to "understand him" but they don't stay once the novelty wears off. His longest relationship was with a medical professional whose parents didn't want her marrying outside her culture.

I swear that ND habits make it easier for strangers to vet one another. I'd never date an utter stranger outside my professional/social/hobby sphere, I'd just get up and walk out during the "interview" process. But I think his upfront confession of hyperfocus and a... dampened emotional response seems to attract a certain type of women with a saviour complex.

I currently only use hinge and have 14 matches I’ve hadn’t started a conversation with, 12 likes in my queue and 1 rose. This is within 3 weeks of redownloading the app (moving to a new city). I often delete dating apps just because it can be a distraction due to the amount of options.

The key besides being attractive and fit is to have good pictures and hobbies. I also get off the app and transfer to Instagram after the initial conversation. I do pay for the membership on hinge. Bumble it’s not worth it in my opinion.

I’m in the process of moving to a new city so I’ll definitely be back on them more often to go on dates, meet new people etc

The problem with dating apps is it’s not about how attractive or interesting you are in real life. It’s about knowing how to game the system. When I used tinder I was going on at least 2 dates a week at one point.

What I did was every Thursday I would pay for the platinum membership then immediately refund it. That would give me 3 days to swipe on everyone. Problem is the more you swipe the less quality people they show you meaning even if you pay for the app, you actually are penalized for using it. But after that 3 days the app reverts back to the free version. Tinder wants you to pay so with the free version they start showing you the quality people again. Rinse and repeat.

Never paid for tinder but always got the platinum benefits.

Other than that have decent pics, fill out all the info and of course be of at least average attraction

I believe I'm in the top 5% based on the matches I get - both volume and quality. I swipe right on around 5-10% and can get a date for a given week basically whenever I'd like.

I believe photo optimization was key. I went on photofeeler and just went by the data to tell me what photos were best. I was surprised at how much of a difference a slight change in expression makes. I had a buddy take a bunch of pictures of the same thing with different expressions and body angles and I picked the ones rated the best. I found these things can make a full two points difference in attractiveness rating. Probably more.

My best photos are in the 9s if that gives you an idea. So, according to that site, in the top 10% of looks. I believe I'm pretty lucky with my genetics and then I optimize from there with a cool haircut, clean grooming, and flattering, fashionable clothes.

Improving my profile (specially pictures) helped inmensely. I look like a decent person in most pictures (little they know about my twisted patriarchal mind and the empty hollow where a heart is supposed to be) 😐

Jokes aside, yeah, I look like a somewhat trustworthy person, I'm not intimidating at all despite not being particularly femenine or anything like that. I filled all the picture slots and, while it's not showing the exciting life I don't have...it's all honest: no filters except sometimes basic color or black and white filters (no beauty filters), full body, close ups, sometimes other people around, pictures in nature (a mountain, forest or the beach), smiling with friends in a pub or a house, playing guitar...also, all pictures are recent, less than a year old.

The description is just me saying I like being dumb but also intelligent stuff (I do like arts, culture, History...) and that I want to share my interests with them and learn about their interest. Nothing in the lines of 'feminists shall not pass' or the lists of dealbreakers that women write in their profiles.

Much better than when I didn't put enough pictures or filled it up with pictures that I absolutely disliked...I learnt to take/select pictures that I actually like at least a bit, to the point I ran out of room in the app to put them.

Last three girls I dated/hooked up with were a disaster though, so I'm not particularly happy with that, but hey, technically it's finally 'working'...even if they aren't emotionally available and use me to heal themselves from the Chad that dared cheating on them 🤷 I'd say fuck dating apps, but almost everyone is there and at best you'd only find a better context to meet each other...

I enjoyed dating apps when I used them. I had a lot of dates and met the right person. I am off of them now.

Even though I enjoyed them I still had to deal with a lot of bullshit. There are some absolutely shitty people on dating apps that are going to treat others poorly. Unless you are the most coldly analytical person in the world dating apps are going to beat you up at some point.

I did a lot of trial and error with my profile. Good travel pictures. Some other pictures as well that I thought were good. I constantly tweaked what I wrote in my profile to be interesting but not too wordy. Most importantly was I really worked on finding the right opening message to connect. Ask an open ended question that has something do with there profile even if it was tangentially so. I never once asked How is your day going? or anything along those lines. I realized it was my job to really steer the conversation to a place where it could flow well.

Yeah myself, some of my friends and my long term clients. I started doing photography for myself with a tripod in 2020 with a camera that my dad gave me lol. Then I eventually started doing shoots for people and charging them. In terms of results for myself I went from 14 matches to 700 and have had 3 fwbs from it and idk like 20+ dates and fun nights with some cool girls.

My clients results vary some take it more seriously than others. One of my latest guys went on 15 dates in the 2 months after our shoots. I do well on apps. I mean not girl well 😅 but I don't need 1000 matches. I generally get enough matches that I go on dates regularly and hookup regularly though and without spending tons of time swiping or anything.

That being said I also have a very limiting profile (ie must be a girl who is like...) which that's actually my advice. Better to get 3 quality matches than 30 general matches imo because I only want to meet one or at most two new girls a week so I'd rather weed out ones that aren't my type.

I got two friends who are natural at getting dates on Tinder, hell, even in bars girls come up to them. Both are tall, have a nice physic and muscular, seemed to me that we could travel to the most remote places and somehow they're leaving to go off on successful one-night stands on a regular basis.

I'm very sure that them having an already good physical appeal has boosted their confidence and now, being smooth talkers and know what the average girl wants to hear makes them extremely successful.

For instance, I don't even follow astrology, but a guy that puts down astrology girls sounds like he's not going to be fun at parties.

What makes a good profile description? - lots of information about yourself. Example, What you do for fun, what kind of relationship you're looking for. Personally, I'm a big fan of seeing music interests, if he likes the same music as me that's an instant thing that makes me want to date him. If he likes different music that's fine too. If there's a space to fill out stuff such as do you have/want kids... job...instagram link... height etc, love it when they answer in a definitive way. Like, don't even bother filling out anything if your answer is "undecided" (Ps, I don't care if he's short or tall, but I usually prefer him to be as tall or taller than me) Also, if your 1 interest is "going to the gym", try to think of at least 2 more interests to add, or just add that if you only want women that like the gym too. Sometimes I find it irresistible to answer an absolutely random question on their profile like, "What's the best Arnold Schwarzenegger movie" or, "What's the best concert you've ever been to"

What makes good photos? - avoid professional photos. From my pov, that could be catfish or edited or old - one or two max of hanging with friends. And only, ONLY if you have enough photos of yourself I know which one you are - don't hide your face. Some guys only upload photos with sunglasses or wearing hats. - use at least three photos. The more, the better. - no woman ever has enjoyed the photo of dude holding a fish. It's corny. - if there's another woman in the photo, I'm suspicious it's an ex or a girl you're crushing on. If there's a kid or pet in photo, explain who that is. - use recent photos. If even one pic looks like it's from years ago, I won't believe he looks anything like that anymore - no selfies of you lifting your shirt to show your abs. If you wanna show off your body, use a beach photo or something instead.

I think a lot of men have the potential to maximize their matches and attractiveness but don't.

Being attractive is work. Sure there are some people born with flawless features but most people have to work to be attractive. It's actively having a style. It's fixing your hair and knowing your face shape and what looks good with your face. It's diet and exercise. Its maintaining your image and how you look. Knowing what looks nice on your body. It's make up skin care actively doing stuff to look nice. Knowing your angles so you look pretty in photos. Like it's effort you do every day in how you present yourself to the world. Most people have to maintain an image of it. It's actively putting in effort to be attractive.

And most guys on dating apps do not. They use unflattering photos. They are dressed frumpy. Patchy facial hair messy goatees. Anime profile pics. Dirty mirror selfies. Memes. Dad sunglasses. Poorly dressed. Super close selfie. Like none of these scream desirable.

If you are marketing a house. Are you going to showcase a house to be bought with the windows busted out and boarded. And sell it as it's listed price. And a kitchen that's in a dire need of fixing up with dirty greasy appliances?! Or with old shag rug carpet from the 70s.... Or are you going to fix the house up give it some curbside appeal fix it up where you can. And then sell the house at the listed price? So you can appeal to more buyers?
