I think people underestimate how addicting porn can be for some people. It can also lead people down a rabbit hole of basically requiring more and more intense porn just to get off.

There are absolutely negative effects of unrestricted porn consumption. Anyone denying that is probably denying their own addiction. Especially with how freely available it is today.

The dopamine spike associated with masturbating to porn is comparable to some of the more addicting drugs out there, and repeated engaging in this activity has the capacity to change your brain wiring in similar ways, i.e. diminished use of the prefrontal cortex which is not good, to put it simply. The “porn isn’t real sex” argument has tons of merit to it because the actors do often over-act and it does make a good amount of its users internalize some bad habits. You’d be surprised on, for example, the amount of times a dude would push a boundary and it would backfire, only for him to reveal he thought this was the norm cause he saw it in porn. Porn also entirely aims to get the guy (who most times is the target audience), as most porn centres on the man’s pleasure only - which, again, can teach a developing man a ton if wrong lessons.

There is also the addictive factor in that porn does fuck with your dopamine and reward receptors. It, in a way, numbs you to the real world - so while it may or may not have an impact on testosterone levels (frankly, most “x impacts testosterone levels” arguments are based on shakey science - as if you, for example, watch porn and are a heavy lifter, you’ll still have high T levels. An aspect of it genetics), it does certainly impact how your brain interacts with the world as well as how your dopamine receptors responds to the gender you’re attracted to.

Lastly, the industry is a full on exploitative, manipulative place. There is a reason why tons of big industry porn stars end up regretting it, why drug and alcohol use are quite high within that industry and why it has a of darkness surrounding it. “Sex raunchy” is certainly a part of it, but the porn industry is also one of the most exploitative in the world

Here are some things one psychologist notes happen almost all the time in porn that don’t actually happen regularly in real life

1) sex with a stranger. Even the old joke about porn scriptd “oh look the girl doesn’t have any money to pay for that pizza!” Point out how common it is for the people to portray they never met or just met and then suddenly they are having wild sex. But that’s not how most people end up having sex. No surprise: most people get into relationships and then have sex with a gf/bf committed partner.

2) the women are sexually forward and aggressive. Of course the audience wants to see a woman that’s horny acting horny regardless of location and situation. And that’s what the audience wants that’s why they came to porn. But when it comes to real life and real approaching? Even PPD will agree it’s usually the guy who approaches and women are more likely to communicate with body language and also not be to aggressively sexually forward.

The main points I see against it is the sexual coercion and abuse involved with the creation of content, that porn subliminally leads men into objectifying women and that porn consumption can lead to difficulties with having a healthy personal sex life.

All of these points have some merit to them. I don't think this has anything to do with anyone's insecurities nor sexuality. Which is what you're focusing on. Yet they're perfectly reasonable points to consider for why some people despise the porn industry.

Hot take but I think a lot of dudes hide behind “porn addiction” to explain away their lack of self-control with their base drives and impulses. Like fat people who blame genetics while they eat junk food. I think a lot of what you listed is just rationalization for why that lack of control is totally, definitely not the fault of the individual for not being able to control their own behavior, but it’s somehow actually everyone’s else’s fault and problem or someone “preying” on their "vulnerability." I'm not necessarily anti-porn but I do get some of the arguments.

I do think in some ways porn is an industry that takes advantage of a lot of the people that participate; in it drug abuse and self-harm plague the industry.

A lot of the scenarios (when it has scenarios): * reinforced racial stereotypes, * basically awful power dynamics (I mean a lot of bosses I having sex with their underlings), * cheating, * the normalization of incest to a degree (at least in modern porn).

Not to mention some of the furry stuff which is borderline zoophilic or some of the stuff from Japan and other Asian countries which is manga some featuring adults and others featuring people which could not be easily labeled as adults, yea that stuff.

Sexuality is complex and sometimes awful. Sexuality can be sexist, racist, bigoted, etc. porn reflects that in a way.

The argument for porn makes sense from a rights perspective I mean porn is an expression of people's rights and as long as nothing illegal is happening it should be allowed to exist.
