As a British woman, I would never say this. I think non-medical (e.g. phimosis) circumcision is tantamount to child abuse. Even religious circumcision, but I think that's outside my realm of control. I don't see the point - it's cruel no matter what. If the bloke chooses to get circumcised when he's older, that's fine. Like a woman choosing to have breast augmentation; it's their body and they're an adult (or a mid-to-older teen who has discussed it and consented).

But I have no idea what the hell parents are thinking when they look at their perfect new baby boy and say 'let's cut a bit of his dick off, before he even knows what to do with it'.

Hygiene? Well for a start, the foreskin doesn't naturally retract til the kid is older. After that; just wash.

STDs? Use a damn condom like everyone else.

Teasing? Show me one child that hasn't been teased for something. Short, tall, blonde, ginger, skinny, fat, foreskin, no foreskin, boobs, no boobs. Kids are dicks.

Women judging you? They're not worth it. I've been with both circumcised and uncircumcised men and there's barely any difference. When it's erect, they look the same anyway.

As an intactivist (and female). I have ended friendships over circumcision. My best friend is also an intactivist who protests regularly. We are starting to see a decline in circumcision but there are still those idiots who don't know what the hell they're talking about when it comes to intact penises.

I will add I was very upset by the reference to intact penises in the movie "Bad Moms". I was watching it with my mom and sister and was horrified by what they said in response to that. Cutting off foreskin is defended by men and women alike for a number of reasons, like religion, hygiene, and by far the creepiest-- aesthetics/wanting them to "match their dad" (seriously wft.) The explanation that makes the most sense to me is cognitive dissonance theory-- if it's a horrible thing, then a horrible thing was done to me by people I love, and since I don't want to confront that, it must not be that horrible. Like tribes in New Guinea that extract a number of adult teeth as a right of passage-- at one point, this was done in case the child got lock-in, so the family could still feed them. The practice outlived it's medical necessity, but the tribe went on to do it because, to them, that's what a face was supposed to look like.

I used to be one of those women, so I'll give you my perspective. I'm from the south. In America, especially in the south you rarely if ever see an actual intact penis. And here is the thing about girls, we go along to get along. So if one of our friends tells us some horror story about going down on an intact guy and how it smelled or how there was loose skin, we will probably take her at her word and just say "eeew! Intact penises are gross!"

For me, I was 19 before I ever saw an intact penis and I didn't even know he wasn't circumcised until after we finished having sex the first time and he lost his erection. I didn't think it was gross, just shocked me a little.

It wasn't until after having my first son circumcised that I felt sick and horrible about what I'd done. I did my first research after the fact, unfortunately. With my second son I left him intact, against the advice of my husband and my friends. I had learned and grown. I am now what you would call an "intactivist" in that I do my best to educate other women about the truth and horror of male genital mutilation.

TL;DR No intact penis where I grew up, laughed about horror stories from friends and believed without proof, changed my stance after having first son circumcised.

I chose to not circumcise my son and since making that decision have realized what a stigma it is. Any time he gets a rash in his diaper area, his grandma (my MIL), asks if it's because he is uncircumcised. As if that has any bearing on diaper rashes. A lot of people also choose to tell me how he will be ridiculed for not looking "normal". I refuse to apologize for not mutilating my son. I really hope the practice of circumcision stops being the norm.

Even medical professionals are still biased. Our doctor asked if we wanted to get our son circumcised. My wife wasn't prepared for that question (he was our first). It jolted us. "Why in the world would you want to cut him up hours after birth? He's perfect!" So yeah, she had some choice words. But the doctor quickly assured us that she didn't agree with it and neither does the board of pediactrics. But since it is still quite common, she has to ask and be completely unbiased. We even had a couple of nurses make eyes after telling them we weren't doing it. So disgusting. So crazy how polarizing this topic is. Go to any parenting sight and look this up. This group of parents saying it's sick and disgusting to do that to your kid. And then the other side that says it's unclean, will cause medical problems down the road, and even had the audacity to say that they'll never get a date because it's so ugly looking. Breaks my heart. I've got two boys now... completely intact. And they're never gonna know they're different.

Women in my country; Denmark, would absolutely not expect the guy to be circumcised. I think the same could be said for the rest of the scandinavian countries.

I think OPs issue is probably exclusive to the US, because afaik, its actually not at all the norm to do this procedure in european countries, unless you were jewish. - Most would find it quite challenging to defend it ethically, and certainly noone would consider the appearance of the penis as an actual reason to perform the surgery.

As a woman, I would suggest that any man who encounters the attitude OP describes in a woman, to not stick his uncircumcised dick in crazy and nope the hell out of there.

I would rather parents not circumcise their child(ren). I'm not saying this because my preference, but they shouldn't circumcise because I feel like they don't understand what they are doing to their child's genitals or what the complications are/could be. That openness men have has been transferred to the whole society so that everybody thinks he or she can talk about these topics too, even without having any knowledge of the topic. The realistic answer is that it's somewhat ok to say damn near anything, and the way that someone becomes embarrassed and defensive if challenged is when it becomes "wrong" to talk about.

Female comic I work with a lot has a bit about uncircumcised penises (in private when asked she'd actually never seen one) and often when she asks if anyone in the room is uncircumcised I'm the only person. However I also do jokes about how I'm trying to make foreskin become as cool as clevage by hanging a little out the zipper, or having a little window.

It's not "wrong" to talk about anything, it becomes wrong later when you force something on someone by force. Feminists like to argue everything is about language and framing and it isn't, don't fall into their trap.

I don't think it's wrong for women to have a preference when it comes to circumcision. Buy regardless of their personal preference, no one should ever use that as a basis for belittling any man.

I'd compare the circumsised vs. uncircumcised preference regarding men to the big boobs vs. little boobs preference regarding women. Both topics are ones on which nearly everyone has an opinion and preference, but there's no right or wrong preference and, regardless of what an individual might prefer, that in no way makes the alternative "disgusting".

I haven't heard a woman of renown say publicly that she finds uncircumcised penises "disgusting". I think a comment like that is generally only made in private settings where a bunch of girls are chit-chatting about men and sex (often in ways so raunchy and vulgar that most men would be shocked if they heard how filthy a group of girlfriends can be when they talk to each other lol). But even in situations like that, circumsision is a pretty rare topic (in my experience).

I know that guys will definitely vocalize their thoughts on a woman's boob size... whether with a group of guys or even in mixed company.

Perhaps, it's just not an issue where I live (New England area), but here, it's not considered any more or less offensive to speak negatively about a guy who's uncircumcised or a woman with gigantic boobs.

Well OP, I think there are a couple of real answers to your question - first, that just because some women say the first bit, and some women feel the second bit, doesn't necessarily imply that the two groups overlap. You'd be right to label people that do believe both things as hypocrites, but it'd be easy to use a wider brush than necessary when painting people as such, so be careful! Secondly, it could simply come down to the fact that people (usually) do not view their children in the same way they view sexual partners, and I wouldn't expect them to apply personal sex-appeal filters to how they view their child. This is speculative but seems entirely plausible to me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm circumcised, when I was around 7 my cousin who was not circumcised kept getting infections, his father was uncut and knew how to keep things clean and showed him what to do. Unfortunately he ended up needing to have the procedure done at that point and he was in massive pain from it and not really sure what longer lasting effects there were to it, mostly cause we don't just casually discuss his junk on a regular basis, but that is one of the major reasons why I chose to have my boys go through it.

People have the right to be disgusted by anything. It's not a voluntary reaction. Nobody chooses to be disgusted. If a woman prefers a circumcised penis, you can't force her to stop liking what you don't like.

There's no benefit in using this kind of rhetoric. Saying that liking circumcised penises "essentially endorses involuntary elective genital surgery" is no different from feminists saying rape jokes promote rape culture or vegans saying eating meat means supporting animal cruelty.

Although I don't find uncut penises attractive after watching a video of one being done on an infant I've decided that boys should be circumcised but only when they're old enough to choose to have it done, like around 12 or 13. Plus, when it's done at that age they are knocked out so that they won't have to feel it. I think because it's been done for so long at birth it's become assumed it's acceptable.

We shouldn't shame people for their preferences--on the other hand, we should not be shamed as people for what we look like. The difference lies in how you phrase things and approach the subject.

For example, if I were to say, "Idk why fat girls even talk to me, WTF" that's pretty obnoxious and I would understand people being upset with me because I'm making it a judgment of the person, not about my own preference. If I were to say, on the other hand, "I'm sorry but I'm not attracted to heavy girls, it's nothing personal," that's a much nicer phrasing and makes it about what I prefer, rather than a judgment of that person. Some people will still be upset about that but I don't really care.

So in short, understand that the place this is coming from is a place of physical preference. People who talk like this are being obnoxious because they're making it a judgment of others rather than about what they prefer, which is far easier to handle for the people they're talking about.

the two reasons I've heard from women have been: 1. they're used to seeing circumcised, so being introduced to a hoodie is a little shocking. 2. Hygiene. Dudes, clean your dicks, especially if you're uncircumcised. girls don't like seeing shit crusted on a dick as the skin is rolling back.

I think this has more to do with the quality of people you know than this being a standard thing.

It is not ok to body shame anyone and should not be tolerated.

Get over your issues with vaginas because they are awesome if you learn your way around them, and most women don't care if you are circumcised or not.
