Yeah when you’re infatuated you brag about how awesome your partner is. Later on you lose those feelings and complain about how your partner sucks. It’s not always to make your friends jealous though. Sometimes you just have feelings and the people who are your confidantes are stuck listening to you talk out your emotions.

While it’s not as strong as it used to be men are still overall expected to be the major family provider. As a result, men are defined more by their work and women more by the guy they can catch.

The first thing men are often asked is what they do for a living (to provide). Women are often told they might as well fall in love with a rich guy. (Who can provide for them).

I’ve similarly noticed women in general tend to define themselves by family and guys more by what they do and experience. For example most of my male friends on Facebook will feature where they’ve gone backpacking, a new bike trail they’ve biked, a brick patio they laid themselves, maybe a new job they got, etc. My women friends focus much more on what their kids and family do and maybe a social event they attended. They define themselves more by their relationships than what they do. (Overall, not exclusively)

It's not for jealousy, it's for approval. They want the friends to think you are a great guy so that she doesn't get shit for dating you or advice for breaking up or getting set up with other guys.

It happens when she knows there's something that her friends will disapprove off, whether superficially like looks or out of genuine concern like abusive behavior and she wants to get ahead of the situation.

I love to talk about my boyfriend no matter who is to. For the first time in awhile I’m really happy. I love to brag about it and don’t have shame. We’ve been dating for about 4 months now and have been making great life strides. I enrolled in school, started working out, cleaned my entire diet up, he’s helped me turn to god, and I’m just happier. To some that’s nothing, and easily achievable on my own, but he’s so motivating and moving it really helps. My friends are happy in their relationships, and are happy I have found someone who I can be happy with to.

I don't know that it's common unless it's among really childish women.

I've tried to hide certain things because it's caused problems in the past even just the knowledge of things my partner has done for me. Like my partner taking me to Disney for our second valentine's day together, I got an upset phone call from my cousin when she found out about how lame of a Valentine's day she had. Or when he took me to Paris for my birthday, my friend got really upset because her birthday sucked.

Basically all gifts and trips I just have to hide or downplay at this point. I feel like if I don't it will cause problems in their relationships.

Those are the same women who bitch to their friends about their men when they do something "wrong." I was raised without any family to gossip with (thank God, no desire) and have had few female friends in my life due to being raised by a single dad in a male dominated world (USMC/LE). I've learned by luck and default to leave your female friends and family out of your relationships 💯 They will stir the pot and get in other women's heads, or instill/create doubt. Jealousy often pops up, they hold grudges, misidentify and obsess on "narcissism" etc. and create narratives that aren't really there based on their own life filters, toxic behaviors, or traumatic past. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤐

I do this around my friends because I want them to know how happy I am, but we're also not jealous people. None of my guy friends get jealous of my relationship because they've got their own shit going on, or their own awesome partners.

I have one person in my life who I think gets a bit jealous but I think that's more because they're spending 50% of their time working and the other 50% caring for their ailing mother, so they have just no time to date... so I just don't bring up my relationship around them.

I don't boast, but I would totally feel really proud of my girlfriend achievement or something and want to bring it up. Not really a boast, just a proud boyfriend moment. But I would be mindful not to cross the line into being annoying and bragging .

I wouldn't just bring it up randomly but I'd be happy to describe the guy I'm spending time with to someone. If we part ways in the near future I'd still recommend him to my friends and acquaintances.
