Yes, of course I do. That’s not what we are talking about though. We are talking about men who abandon their dying wives because they are no longer able to take care of the “wifely duties”, it’s not the same as not being able to afford healthcare. I am sure all the men who divorce their sick wives have plenty of reasons why they waited until there was a terminal diagnosis, it’s certainly wasn’t because she was sick or anything, that would make him a social pariah. Surely they care, it must be coincidence.

Background: Life-threatening illness creates severe stress that may result in marital discord, separation, or divorce and may adversely impact treatment, quality of life, and survival. The few studies that are available to date have suggested that the risk of divorce is not higher in cancer patients, but to the authors' knowledge, no data exist to date that have examined the effect of gender on this rate.

Methods: A total of 515 patients were prospectively identified as having either a malignant primary brain tumor (N = 214), a solid tumor with no nervous system involvement (N = 193), or multiple sclerosis (N = 108) who were married at the time of diagnosis. Basic demographic information and data regarding marital status were compiled. Patients were followed prospectively from enrollment until death or study termination.

Results: Women composed 53% of the patient population. Divorce or separation occurred at a rate similar to that reported in the literature (11.6%). There was, however, a greater than 6-fold increase in risk after diagnosis when the affected spouse was the woman (20.8% vs 2.9%; P < .001). Female gender was found to be the strongest predictor of separation or divorce in each cohort. Marriage duration at the time of illness was also correlated with separation among brain tumor patients (P = .0001). Patients with brain tumors who were divorced or separated were more likely to be hospitalized, and less likely to participate in a clinical trial, receive multiple treatment regimens, complete cranial irradiation, or die at home (P < .0001).

**Conclusions: Female gender was found to be a strong predictor of partner abandonment in patients with serious medical illness. When divorce or separation occurred, quality of care and quality of life were adversely affected.

When doing an analogy with humans, your options for the analogy are inevitably going to be animals or inanimate objects. I've had that happen to me a bunch of times and it has never been offensive. It's just a way to try and explain something better.

It's weird. Only women seem to hate analogies. Men get compared to dogs, horses, houses, any everything else under the sun and don't get offended at the mere comparison to the object, only what the comparison means (I might get annoyed that you are calling me stubborn, not that you are using a donkey to illustrate the stubborness). If a man were to say "so you're saying i'm a donkey", he'd be considered an idiot.

On top of listening to men, I listen to and share women's stories. And to survive being discarded, it's important to desensitize other women to how y'all dehumanize us. One day y'all may actually talk about women in terms of us being human adults. Not today though. We need to be trained and molded according to y'all. So that's what I'll tell women. Just know and understand why this repels normal thinking women with a healthy self esteem. And that we see this type of conversation as red flags to stay away from.

You can think dogs (or you) “deserve” whatever you like, but the reality of the world is that if you want something, you will be better off taking appropriate actions to get it than thinking you will get it merely because you supposedly “deserve” it. Dogs have little agency in their own adoption so those who are not adopted before age 2 deserve sympathy. Women, OTOH, have massive agency in choosing relationship partners.

Men and women generally want very different things in relationship partners because we are fundamentally different from each other (basic biology). Men generally become more attractive to women as we age because men and women generally want very different things in relationship partners. Youth is more attractive to men in potential relationship partners than it is to women, and power/status (which typically increases with a man’s age) is more attractive to women in potential relationship partners than it is to men. As we men age and increase in status/power there is no shortage of younger women against whom older women will have to compete because new young women are constantly entering the relationship marketplace.

Absolutely, but as both our characteristics and what we want are fundamentally different, so will be the set of actions that we must take.

“Not every,” but generally speaking…

Women are attracted to power, status (inclusive of social proof), and worldly experience, and thus women value youth less than men do. Women are also intensely hypergamous, which also reduces their preference for youth relative to men’s.

And if you would only date men under 30, you’d best get to locking one down ASAP because to the extent that men are “cute” and “have something going on” their options are only going to increase until they hit 45 or so and the longer you wait you’re going to find yourself in an increasingly competitive market with fewer options available to you (and you’re already behind the 8-ball).

In my social set of “cute” men who “had something going on” (at the 1% and above levels), the vast majority were off the market by the time we were 30 and the remaining single women with whom we had gone to prep school and college were literally cold calling us out of the blue to ask us out (before the days of social media), and they only got more desperate from there. Even the men who were not so “cute” but “had something going on” were off the market by 35 but often with women who were one or two years older than they or less desirable in other ways. The few men who were not interested in LTRs or had gotten divorced regularly dated women in their mid-twenties until they were around 40, and are still dating women who are on average significantly younger than themselves.

The way you've presented it, yes many would disagree. Once again, we are talking about prospective partners, so Beta bux makes sense because it's about women settling in the name of money. Once you start talking about a woman monkey branching from a good partner to a new partner because of money, I don't think it's simple, even if some RP people think it is. Just like a man won't typically leave his loving wife for a younger woman, a woman won't leave her loving husband for a richer man. That would not be an easy decision in either case and if the outcome is leaving the partner, I'll bet there are other issues that make that existing relationship easier to discard. The context for RP talking about this is not long lasting committed relationships, but rather short term ones that never took.

I think the true ideal for most men is some form of one-sided monogamish where both partners are completely emotionally monogamous, but where some degree of purely physical polygamy is allowed for the man (say with escorts). This would totally relieve the male urge for sexual variety, and the emotional monogamy would keep the marriage intact. It would obviously require the husband to make sure his wife is physically and emotionally satisfied at all times, which is something all husbands should be doing anyway.

The truth is, most men do love their wives, no matter how old. But they may physically desire other women for the sake of novelty and want to act on those desires. I think leaving a woman for a younger women is cringe, as it forces you to give up the emotional bond you already had with your wife, and all just for the sake of novelty.

i won't replace my gf for a younger woman down the line, as long as i'm happy in my relationship. most men don't really do this and for those who do, i'm sure a good percentage of their relationships and marriages had some major issues to begin with. just because the new girlfriend is younger, it doesn't necessarily mean that he was looking to 'upgrade' for the sake of it.

guys who date/have a preference for younger women aren't necessarily operating this way - just like women who prefer men with a full head of hair won't necessarily dump him once he starts losing it. this is a common argument you hear in conversations and debates about age preferences but it doesn't really make sense and is never applied to other preferences. when people are in a relationship, there's love (at least there should be), connection, a shared history, a life you build together and so on. no such ties to anyone when somebody is single, it's an entirely different scenario.

But like I've said, there's no compromise when it comes to cleaning standards. There's no mediation. The higher standards need to be established, because the person with the higher standards will feel really bad living in a house that's disgusting according to their standards.

So to go back to the mopping example, if we were to only mop the floor once a month, the person that wanted it mopped every week (the woman) will feel really disgusted by the floor for 3 weeks out of 4. There's no compromise to be had here, unless the woman decides to somehow lower her standards.

So what happens is either:

1) The woman starts mopping 3 weeks out of 4 so the house fits her standards, and the man only mops once a week, which would make the man a pig and a slob because he's not doing 50/50, or anything close for that matter.

2) The man starts mopping the floor every other week to fit her standards, and that extra work that he doesn't really want to do, or even feels like it's necessary to do, will build resentment because it's never really appreciated. To him it's extra work that he does for her, but for her it's just normal basic chores that shouldn't be rewarded with any special apprecation because they're just.. normal basic chores that one should do no matter what

Yes but taking another up job that they don't like to do in exchange for mopping is not a "compromise". Neither is getting a housekeeper. A compromise means both sides concede something, the woman in this case is not conceding anything. She's getting exactly what she wants, while the man is working more than he wants.

And again, I understand that the standard should be whatever the higher standard is from the two people (more often than not the woman's). What I'm saying is that women should understand that men doing "50/50" in chores, is only 50/50 according to the woman's standard, while for the man is not at all 50/50, it's more like 100/100, and it feels like a lot of extra work that he only does for her that goes totally unappreciated because to her all that work is just "being an adult" and there's nothing special about it

Yeah, but how do you define "nagging"?

That shit has been the excuse of partners to not do any unpaid work for decades, they're "nagged" to do the dishes, to put out the garbage, to do things previously agreed upon that was a part of their domestic duties, but they didn't feel like doing.

Some people struggle with the idea that eating on plates and having bins to put trash in means someone has to clean said plates and take the trash to the bin. If you want dishes to eat from and places to put trash, but you aren't actively contributing to the upkeep of that, someone has to remind you, even though you shouldn't need reminding, you should be on top of your own needs.

So, is your definition of 'nagging' more to do with extraneous chores, or with a reminder of normal chores that need to be done, but often aren't?
