Men need women in general in order to have a family also romantic fulfillment. Most other areas of life's needs such as food, shelter, friendship can all be achieved by a man on his own and a women is either not needed or a detriment in many of those areas (food and shelter translates to money) but most men either want two things from women. Companionship which includes friendship and physical connection and children.

Honestly, the more I age and hence mature, the more I realise that I don't need a woman, not even in a strictly objective and absolutist 'I can technically survive by myself' sort of way - I mean: even emotionally, the novelty of a relationship quickly wears off. Men can't rely on women emotionally like women rely on men emotionally; that relationship is basically a one way street at least for the most part. Men vary in their wants and needs-for-fulfillment (not necessarily survival). Some (likely most) men genuinely DO want romantic love (which, by definition, includes mutual sexual desire) with women. But they want authentic romantic love, not a situation of being exploited.

Some men don't want romantic love with women. Some just want sex. My theory is they're heterosexual but also very strongly auto-homosexual - they're attracted to women but also to the idea of being a hot, desirable man, and the woman serves to validate that through her attraction to him. Women may experience this as exploitative (or perhaps see his internalized attraction as a kind of romantic competition), but honestly there are heterosexuals of both sexes who have this "the attraction of the man/woman validates my desirability as a woman/man" complex and it varies as a matter of degree between individuals.

But here's the reality - the average man is much hornier than the average woman. Men simply want more sex than women want. Jokes about periods or how she doesn't "put out enough" should be understood as a humorous response to a frustrating-to-men part of female nature.

Just like women will, and do, make similar jokes (and even outright insults) about male sexuality.

I am, however, reasonably comfortable suggesting that a majority (and likely a supermajority) of heterosexuals of both sexes do need romantic love with a member of the opposite sex in order to experience fulfillment in their lives.

I think it's impossible to not notice, as a man, that you are expected to provide value in exchange for mating. Like you can literally go look up rates for sugar babies and understand that a romantic encounter, including sex, with an attractive woman with a nice personality is worth like $400. And this bleeds into expectations for relationships.

So basically if you could have a woman and JUST fuck her, it would be a step up from the status quo, where being a relationship = burden of performance for men. I just was reading an article about a woman who said her virtual boyfriend, who was 100% available to her, always supportive, always willing to listen to her was the first boyfriend who met the bare minimum.
