I've never understood the male obsession with thinness. Women rarely care that much if a man is a bit pudgy. I mean, sure, a woman might prefer a man who's trim or muscular if all else is equal, but the majority (in my experience) won't make it a requirement and care far more about a man's heart, mind, and soul. That's what really matters in the grand scheme of things, anyway.

I know the standard response is "mEn ArE ViSUaL" but I don't buy it. I'm a highly visual cognitive type/learning style, I think in pictures, I love things that are beautiful, and I never cared much what a man looks like.

The problem with putting stipulations about a certain BMI (especially after pregnancy and aging/hormonal changes) is that this in indicative of other unrealistic standards. Sometimes people with large amounts of muscle can be out of a "normal" BMI range. Someone could also be in a "normal" BMI range and have health issues or have physical bodily changes after pregnancy (and we all know that any stretch marks or sagging are not going to be acceptable to a LVM like this). It doesn't matter how thin someone stays because we all age and statistically most individuals will eventually develop health conditions as they age (sometimes even with a healthy lifestyle).

This man is saying he would not find her attractive if her appearance changed in a way that could literally be equivalent to less than 10 pounds (depending on what her BMI is now). This means there is a very large, if not certain chance, that this man will not find her attractive if there are any deviations in his perception of her attractiveness from her current state. He will not allow bodily changes from pregnancy, aging or health issues.

Never pick a partner who doesn't really love you and/or see you as a human. If they put superficial stipulations on you like this, then they consider you an object and do not really love you. This is a man who wants the mommy/wife appliance and will trade in when he finds a "defect" or things he can "upgrade" (in fact he may not even want the wife part because he has wasted her time for 5 years, yet he thought it would be a good idea to try and get her pregnant- he probably thought it would be easier to get rid of her if they weren't married after she didn't fulfill his expectations).

When I was in OLD especially , I avoided men whose entire personality is gym/fitness/“keeping a healthy lifestyle”.

One, it’s coded language to ward off women above 150 lbs. if you’re 110 lbs, eat like crap, and the gym has never seen your face, they’ll 100% make an exception for you. It’ll now be QuIRky instead of unHeaLthy. Because it’s not genuinely about healthy lifestyle for them, it’s about you being slim.

Two, these men are the ones most likely to cheat/leave if you get pregnant, get PCOS, hypothyroidism, cancer, or even hit a certain age. Any life change that leads to changes in body composition? They’ll be OUT. You’re no longer the perfect, breathing sex d0ll they signed up for.

A friend’s husband was adamant she stay slim if she wanted to stay married to him. He badgered her for years to have a baby. She finally relented. She didn’t start looking pregnant until the third trimester (calorie restriction, ugh). He was repulsed by her pregnant body, but stayed. She took off all but about 10 pounds of the baby weight, and stayed steady.

He desperately wanted another baby but she flat-out refused.

They’ve stayed married for 25+ years and I know she has spent all of it in fear of being abandoned if she gains any weight. Huge time is spent watching calories, etc. Every day, every meal, every social event is a risk for “falling off the wagon” with her diet.

What a miserable way to live.

My ex boyfriend was obsessed with being skinny and stopped touching me, stopped being kind and loving, and generally lost interest in me after I gained 10 lbs. I was already 10 lbs over my ideal weight and the extra weight really turned him off.

After I broke up with him (for more than the reasons than listed above - he was an asshole), he became obsessed with hot yoga and got even thinner and lean. I imagine his next girlfriend will be similar.

I gained another 10 lbs and feel totally comfortable with myself now. With him, all I thought about was what I was eating and my figure. I can eat ice cream and snacks now without feeling guilty or ashamed.
