This is why it’s a major red flag (and deserves an immediate dump IMO) when you have a disagreement with a man and misspell or mispronounce a word that simple context clues can lead you to and he jumps into the middle of your sentence and corrects you condescendingly/mockingly. It’s a sign that he thinks he’s your intellectual superior who was literally sitting there hoping you’d mess up to correct you and “””derail””” your, probably very valid, point with pedantic nonsense. Shut your mouth/exit the text and walk away. No response given.

Men like this are usually pretty misogynistic and try to bludgeon people into agreeing with them with their advanced degrees. Don’t take this shit from women either although you can look at her like she’s stupid, don’t correct yourself, then finish your thought. Feel free to tack on a question of whether you need to provide her with more basic context clues to carry on an adult conversation with you, since just one letter off/one syllable change rendered a word incomprehensible.

I used to work with a guy like this when I did telephone customer service. We were supposed to leave an abbreviated summary on customers accounts after we spoke with them. Like 2-3 lines max. You could tell which customers had pissed him off because you would have entire novels written. We would send them around and laugh. He was basically transcribing the entire interaction from his point of view.

Trying to raise your status through vocab or accent is pretty universal. Most people do indeed do it without realising. Most of us notice this in our mum's first of all.

I actually did this when I came across a home invader in my house. And weirdly it did actually work. My posh voice scared him off and he walked out the front door.

Just a little lighthearted thought of mine I usually get when encountering such scenes:

I'm sorry (am I?), but I can't help me with this inner image; but when a guy pulls off this kind of behaviour, there's always a little picture creeping in my mind, in front of my inner eye....

And it's the picture a really agitated rooster; ruffling his feathers, trying to look big and intimidating towards the "naive little female" but simultaneously he's also trying to look "super-full-fledged-fluffy-shiny-rooster-like'.... (what a word!).....

.... and..... you know.....

.... just too "cocky", I guess :)

(sorry for this weird post - but I just had such a laugh with this. Sometimes you just need something like that and just laugh - otherwise the full weight of all this crap we face in our lifes would just be too much, too often, too hard, too dehumanizing.
