I read the "So you're a feminist in mensrights..." post and have read through many posts in this subreddit, as well as the FAQs and other links on the right of the main page. My post is my response to that. I would like to share with the people of this subreddit and am hoping that my opinion will be respected. I respect yours, and would just like to present some facts.

"Womens rights" evolved due to the oppression of women throughout history. All being a feminist really boils down to is believing that women and men should be respected and treated equally, just like people of different races and cultural backgrounds should be treated equally. Claiming that "Mens rights" evolved out of the womens rights movement, and being proud of earning scorn, reminds me of people clambering for "white rights" evolving out of the civil rights movement and "traditional marriage rights" out of the gay marriage movement. True feminists never wish to bring men down. A real feminist wants to empower women, not dis-empower men, and any man that believes women and men should be treated equally is a feminist himself. Women that want to squash men down are falsely using the feminist title for their own agenda, and it makes me sad to see men on reddit lumping all feminists into that category (just as men don't want to be lumped into a category with rapists simply for being a man.)

False rape accusations are horrific and inexcusable. Falsely accusing men of rape is not feminism. I just assisted a close friend in his divorce hearings as his wife was accusing him falsely and trying to gain primary custody of their child. I believe men and women should be equal. That is feminism. Raging against feminism only discredits your cause. For all the legitimate experiences in this subreddit, blaming true feminism hurts. The majority of feminists do not wish men harm, only the obnoxious loud ones that make me want to punch them. End rant, and thank you for reading and listening.

Edit: Any downvotes you see are not from me. I'm not downvoting people in this thread, they deserve to be heard as much as me and therefore I respect any opinion.
