I think yes and really if a mother is going to court with their spouse for any reason and hasn't done a DNA test they should have to do so to prevent the rampant fraud we see now in family courts and so on. The fact that mothers can make accusations against men and start court cases without even the most basic information on hand of who is actually the father of the child is ridiculous.

The judges should be throwing out these cases left and right for not providing this information yet they do everything in their power to help them instead.

My son was born just under three months ago. I am not married to his mother but we have a long standing healthy relationship and plan to be married soon.

Two days into the hospital stay a social worker came into our room and asked me to sign a form claiming responsibility. I asked for more info because I was signing an obviously serious form.

She said that it was claiming legal and financial responsibility for the child and waiving the right to a DNA test. I know this is my child but regardless I told her that I didn’t feel like that was right.

She was so fuckin rude and dismissive from that point on, telling me I had to be responsible and ‘someone needs to step up and take care of the child’

I told her that I’d sign it and I knew I was his father but it seemed unreasonable for any dad to waive the right to a paternity test while also agreeing to caring for a human financially for the next 18 years.

She threw out the bait and I bit because I was kind of angry. I told her that I have a good situation so it’s okay but there’s people who don’t and it’s not fair. This social worker just argued with me for a while before telling me this wasn’t worth her time because I already signed the form.

I was tired as hell and she was putting a damper on what should’ve been the happiest time of my life so I don’t care but seriously what the fuck?

Every child at birth should be DNA tested against the supposed father, and this MUST be MANDATORY.

If it's optional, men would be pressured into refusing the test.

If a woman has a child with no father, then tries to "tag" a man, then the DNA test should be done between the child and that man.

I'm a man, married to another man. But, I am raising two heterosexual sons (one in college, one in high school). I am scared for their future and the potential to be defrauded by an unscrupulous woman. I would absolutely support them if they decided to get a paternity test for any future children. Even if they completely trust their wives, it's not a bad idea to do it as an extra layer of mental (and legal) security.

This is something that should be done at birth, but only if the father/mother want to do it. And it should 100% be mandatory before any child support occurs. If it is found out that the kid does not belong to the father, it will be entirely up to the mother, to find out who the actual father is in order to collect.

While there is little able to be done to prevent men from cheating, unless the other women comes forward. There is a way to prevent issues where the mother was unfaithful, and she becomes pregnant. No this is not some "all women are bad" message, but it is a pretty common sense test that can be done. It will help couples who decide to bring a child into this world, ensure that it will not be an issue once paternity has been established. Imagine being pregnant, and not knowing if the child is your husbands/boyfriends, because you had a one night stand or you were having an affair. Would you want to keep the child, if you know that their is a real possibility that the child might be illegitimate? You would either come clean now or hope for the best when the paternity test is done. Either way the relationship will end because of the infidelity, or become stronger since the paternity was established. You may disagree, and say that this is not how relationships are built, and that their is a level of trust that needs to occur. I completely disagree, this is not a trust issue, especially when everyone decides to do the same. If it were the odd case out, it would a trust issue, but when everyone does this, it no longer becomes a trust issue, but a societal norm.

When I was 14 I was in the ER and a nurse said I needed to take a pregnancy test. I said I was a virgin and she said it didn't matter- you're pregnant until proven otherwise. It seemed silly but I understood that there are plenty of girls who it might matter for, so I was fine with it.

I view this the same way. It's not something but husband and I need, but I don't really care as long as the test doesn't hurt the baby at all. You can do the test pre birth now with no harm to the child. So whatever, they take a ton of blood anyway just lump it in with the other tests. Won't affect my life at all, might help some guys out I guess.

I could only imagine this not being a clusterfuck if they were required to delete every bit of DNA data for both parent and child right after the test, and not using it for anything else but the test.
LEA would love to get their fingers on the DNA data of everyone born and their parents. As would insurances. Hell, probably even hospitals so they could target ads to you full of scaremongering of things you might be predisposed to.

Even then it's kinda questionable if they wouldn't just sneakily remove that restriction once the system was in place.

Maybe make a reduced DNA test that only can determine parentship and nothing else, but I don't know if such a specialized test is around and if the results of it couldn't be used for anything else.

All in all, I currently think the possibilities to abuse such a system are too high

If any woman ever fraudulently hooked me for support for a child that wasn't mine, and I was denied DNA testing, especially after I experienced the family court system for two children that are mine and an ex wife who became "unhappy" and ejected only to re-marry a man who lived solely on my support for 5 years, all I'm going to say is, that woman, the support agency workers and the court workers who assigned the false debt better fucking run.

After all knowing the true parents can help with possible medical issues down the line among other things. Many of my female friends were so mad at him for asking this of me, like he had no right to ask for proof it was it his child. But honestly...I thought it was totally responsible of him and it really showed me how serious he was about being a father. He needed there to be factual evidence, and it cleared away any questioning between him and I.

Even more impressive, he paid all back child support immediately to me when we received the results. He did the right thing, and he did it to protect me, our daughter, and himself.

They would rather have some innocent person pay child support then really do their job.
