Among men, 13.8% of first births occurred during the teen years and 63.1% occurred during ages 20–29. In 2011–2015, nearly one-third of women aged 15–44 with a birth had only had one birth at the time of interview, about one-third had a second birth within 36 months, and one-third had a second birth more than 36 months after their first birth.

Interesting. By this count, by age 29 women have had 31.2+54.5=85.7% of women have had children.

That said your OP doesn't account for the fact that most of those women would still be married at the age of 30-39, 65% of first marriages succeed until death and of the 35% divorcees, many happen much later than 10yrs ("Grey Divorce")

E: one more thing: this was from 2011 to 15, and teen pregnancy has plummeted since then. New data might be different.

I know plenty of guys over 30 dating women in their 20s; common denominator is that they look young and healthy themselves, you'd never think to look at them that one was over 30.

Conversely, when I was only 20 I caught the attention of a handful of women just over 30, but the ones who felt comfortable making the approach didn't look 30, they still looked young. Makes me think it's a looksmatch thing

I'm 35 now and my girlfriend is 23 and it's not a problem in our relationship outside of her not occasionally getting my pop culture references lol, but I think I mentioned this in another thread on here, the real jealousy comes from if a man is 30 + and can date girls in their late teens and early 20s and he's good-looking enough to do so , I remember about three four years ago I was visiting my alma mater one of my classmates as a teacher there and I ended up having an "entanglement" ( shoutout Jada Pinkett) with one of the girls in his class who was 18 at the time, it wasn't a problem for the most part but there were just sometimes where we would go out that I could feel the jealousy seething from both men and women lol, now granted I haven't aged too much since high school shout out to my parents but I think that's part of it so they'll use terms like "power imbalance" and all that to try and shame you, fuck them lol

I don’t think anyone has problems with 30-35 year olds dating 25+ (38 and 21 — very different story).
There are women who are childfree and don’t want to date men who fathered the children of the single moms you talk about (for every single mom there’s a single dad). This seems to be a fairly discussed topic actually.

You shouldn’t need to parent anyone’s kid if that’s your preference; and I don’t think anyone will have an issue with that. However, I do think you’re oversimplifying your statement; the issue people do have is when a guy pushing 40s (or mid 30s for that matter) is chasing women in their early 20s. The issue is mostly because of a power imbalance, life experience, and being completely different stages of life.

Edit: - this has nothing to do with sex (OP said he doesn’t want to father children who aren’t his own, so we’re assuming he is interested in LTR and not some short term fling) - power imbalance is real and gender doesn’t really matter (a woman in her 30/40s would be equally scrutinized for dating a 20 year old) - stages of life (again gender doesn’t really matter); you’ve been an adult longer, you’ve been through more things, you have more experience... there’s nothing to little in common in terms of interests. You don’t often see close friendships spanning cross generations. - outliers/exceptions exist (let’s make it statistically significant)

Personally I don't think I could date anybody younger than 25, I'm 30 for reference. I also wouldn't date older than 32 or 33, maybe with exceptions.

Younger than 25, they are absolutely status obsessed and have commitment issues because they just want to go out every weekend and get shit hammered with their friends. They basically act like college kids still, some still are, and most of them just haven't gotten to that phase where it's worth dating them.

Older than 32, if they're single, there's usually something else at play here or they want kids like asap and that's a no-go for me, again, could be exceptions. . I want kids but not in the next 3-5 years.

There are no problems with having these standards, it just limits your dating pool as you said. The only places I’ve seen men being “shamed” for being in age gap relationships or for wanting one is online, and it’s usually for 2 reasons: jealousy or outrage that the man’s standards are (to that individual’s perspective) too high.

In my experience, it’s usually the woman who gets shamed for being a gold digger or having daddy issues. Thankfully, when I was openly in a relationship with a man 21 years older than me, no one said shit lol, and it was only women who gave me weird looks.

Who someone chooses to date or is interested in is their prerogative. I think it becomes more of an issue when men (mostly online/on here) act like women above 30 or women with children (or whatever other thing they don’t find attractive) are horrible disgusting creatures no one would ever want. Like why waste your time talking about someone you’re not interested like that? I don’t go out of my way to shame men I don’t find attractive. Both genders think that dating/mating/marriage should take place on their schedule, and when men don't conform, they get shamed for it, because any non-conformance is a "threat" to the interests of the Sisterhood.

Full disclosure: I age-gap date, and outside of social (but not legal!) norms - I'm in my early 50s and I date primarily mid-to-late 20s. There's a lot to unpack.

First, men prefer youth and beauty because it implies fertility. Don't like it? Go argue with God/Nature/Aliens/Whomever.

Second, there are two groups who have entrenched positions AGAINST older men dating younger women: ladies in the same age cohort as the men, who might feel entitled to a man of their own age - and even married women might not like it lest hubby get ideas - and non-scoring Betas who think that the older guy is "taking THEIR women". (Other people are fine with it - guys, and women who are secure in their relationships - I might get a slight frown of disapproval from some wives I know, but it's more tongue-in-cheek, "Oh, you naughty boy!" type of way.

Third, now we get to the young women. There are basically there types: Really there are 3 types of young women:

A. Those that only want a man near their own age, and the thought of a guy more than four years older is “grody" or whatever the kids say. That’s fine, they are perfectly entitled to their preferences just as men are to theirs, and older guys will NOT be getting girls from this group. Maybe as a one-off, but generally, it ain’t happenin’. And that’s fine.

B. Those that prefer a man near their own age, but are open to an older man, particular of the Jon Hamm/Young Harrison Ford mold. These girls can be fun, but in general, relations with them will be short term and then they (or you) will wander off. They can also cause problems, however unintentionally, if you mistake them for women from the third group.

C. Those girls that actively prefer an older lover. An older guy who can read the signs will have a shot with young women in this last group.

Anyway, I do what's right for me, and happily let other people manage their own affairs. Anyone who doesn't like how I live my life can fuck off to Jupiter, and then keep fucking off of past Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, and then reach Pluto and keep fucking off past that, too, until they have boldly fucked off to where no one has fucked off to before.

Men are shamed for dating younger women because people get very uncomfortable if a man actually has leverage in the relationship. Literally, if you gauge responses online, the reason people give for hating on older guys dating younger girls is that her agency is somehow compromised. Not my view, that's just what is said.

He must have groomed her, he's manipulating her, he has more life experience so he can leverage that against her, he's a pedophile, blah blah blah.

It comes down to the man having leverage. If a 19 year old woman is dating an average 19 year old guy, she has way more leverage than nearly any man could have over any woman. But, people look at a relationship where the woman has leverage and either:

that looks "equal" or
She's known to be in charge and she's looked upon as a boss/queen/etc.

This is the way in a gynocentric social order. My advice is to just ignore the shame. If you can, Date younger chicks because they're hotter, not as ran through, less bitchy, and more agreeable. However, most guys can't just go a start dating 20 year olds, so they have to settle for the DANGER ZONE

I don’t think people get upset when guys over 30 decide to date girls a bit younger, like if he’s 31 and she’s 28 I don’t see anyone being bothered about it. It gets questionable when you have someone who’s 35 trying to date a 20 yr old, though.

I’m a late 20s woman with no kids, and I find that most of the men I’ve dated recently either have kids or are a bit younger, or both. So I do get it. But at the same time, I don’t see myself ever dating someone more than a few years younger, because it feels too weird. I’d rather have someone with a kid than someone I have nothing in common with and seems like a kid to me, personally. The creepy part about a lot of these guys is they only really care about how “fresh” the girl is, how much in common they do or don’t have is irrelevant. I don’t think it’s bad to want to date someone who matches your life stage, which may be a few years younger or older. But at some point, the gap is too large.

The problem with expecting a childless woman when you're 30 (despite them being very easy to find) is that you are 30 with no kids. You should have dated a 20 year old when you were 20. You're very old now asking women to be old and childless as well. Single people in their 30s get so entitled when it comes to relationships.

Idk, I think there's a difference between being 34 and open to women age 24-35 and being 34 and only looking at women under 30. I'd find the latter kind of weird and offputting because it just feels hypocritical in the same way as if an overweight person refuses to date other overweight people.

But yeah, I'm 23 and somehow got onto the topic with my 65 year old dad about a scenario where he brought home a girlfriend my age. When really thinking about it, I'd be totally fine if I met her and I could see they got on well. It only feels weird if you notice that the two have nothing in common due to the age gap and you start to wonder about the older persons motivations. I wouldn't shame them, but I would look at them a little differently, and the fact that they valued looks so strongly over everything else. Kind of like when you see a super obese American man "in love" with an eighteen year old Thai woman who he can hardly communicate with. I'd silently judge, I guess.

I’m 39 and childfree. I would NEVER date a single mom. I certainly wouldn’t raise another man’s kid(s).

I’d prefer to date a woman that’s right around my age, or a woman a few years younger that doesn’t have kids.

With that being said... I don’t find it to be weird to see a guy my age with a women, for example, in her mid-late 20’s. However, I would find it to be creepy and distasteful to see someone my age with a 20 year old.

I think this might have to do with geographic location and social/economic circles, but go to any major (US) city and I can almost guarantee you could find lots of women who are single, 30+ and don't have kids yet.

Hell, I lived in Denver when I was 30+ and mostly dated women my age, and I didn't date any women with kids (and I went on plenty of dates).

Society shames men’s desires when those desires don’t serve the larger society’s purposes. Even your post is too apologetic in that you try to offer a justification for why you want what you want. No justification is required.

In every jurisdiction in the United States, 18 year old women are allowed to make their own decisions about their sexual conduct. Those who seek to interfere with the free exercise of sexual choices of women 18-25 years old are impinging on the agency of these consenting adults.

If you (in the comments) can’t imagine having a satisfying LTR or casual sexual arrangement with someone significantly younger than you, then don’t do it. You be you. But stop meddling in other people’s business.

Culture has a big impact on the extent that women find older men attractive, and that society condones such matches.

Right now, culture is simply pushing the idea that older men dating younger women is gross and/or exploitative. The ability for younger women to find an older man truly sexually attractive is at an all time low. The tolerance for such matches is also at an all time low. There was some truth to not wanting to pair excessively old men with younger women, but as with many things, feminism pushed the pendulum too far. That said, biology puts some limits on this. Even in this climate, some guys are still going to be hot to girls 10, 15 or even 20+ years younger.

The main indicator isn't necessarily 30 something year old men looking for 20 something year old child free women, although that certainly is a benefit. There are a lot of 30 something child free women after all. It's because women in their 20s are more attractive, can bear the men more children and their standards relative to their SMV are not as out of whack as it is once they make it to their 30s.

As for the whole thing about age gap relationships and shaming, let me use these women as an example.

Margaret is 36 years old. She thinks any man who dates, asks out or desires a woman more than 5 years younger than him is a predator. She thinks said men are perverted and considerably immature. They have Peter Pan syndrome. They are trying to recapture their youth through manipulation on less intelligent, immature women. There is a significant power difference between a man that is 32 and a woman who is 23. These man can't compete for women of their own age. Women of their own age intimidate them. So these men resort to preying on younger women. After all, brains don't fully develop until the age of 25.

Peggy is 21 years old. Peggy went out and got her own apartment at the age of 18. She paid for her expenses through a credit card she held in her own name. She was approved for $200,000 in debt for the college that she started attending at that age. At 18 Peggy promptly registered as a democrat and started voting for progressive socialist candidates. By the age of 19, Peggy already had 3 abortions, none of which she told her parents about. Once she graduated high school Peggy promptly dumped her same age boyfriend and started dating guys in their early to mid 30s. It was an easy choice. She could be in fancy cars, go to a lot of fun parties, meet people of high status and get a lot of nice gifts. And there wasn't really much of a looks difference for these early 30s guys and the guys her age. In fact she preferred these more established rugged looking guys to the rather gawky looking guys she had known in high school and as a freshman in college. At 20 Peggy had a 6 month relationship with a 33 year old professional athlete. PLOT TWIST - Margaret and Peggy are the same person. When she was young she could care less about age gaps. She also happily took advantage of all the rights she had simply by being an adult. It is only when she became older and lost her competitive edge in the sexual market place that she started shaming age gap relationships and proclaiming any woman under the age of 25 as an immature child who was easy to manipulate and take advantage of. She certainly didn't think that of herself when she was that age!

The stigma of men dating younger women will likely start to be less frowned upon as the fracturing of dating continues. But it will always be deeply frowned upon by women of a certain age, since they will be the most negatively impacted by it. But so it goes.

There's a question of degrees here. Outside of weirdos on reddit, most people in the wider world have any problems with age gaps, even big ones.

But there is a kind of age gap that draws disapproval, say a 39 year old man dating a 20 year old woman. But I don't think you'd see many people disapproving a relationship between a 36 year old man and 24 year old woman. In general, if both people are mature adults and consenting in the relationship, what's the problem?

im 35 and i never dated/had sex with a women who was over 30 - and i dont want to change that the next 5-10 years.

but most of them are ~25-28 and thats totaly ok. when a 38 year old is going after 21 year olds thats a little iffy. but i would say ~10 year age gap isnt a big problem... if both people vibe well.
