Why is acknowledging misogyny on here so hard?

Also, I guess the idea that "misogyny" can mean different things to different people and some folks simply aren't interested in fitting into a certain little boxes others try/want to put them into. You can give someone a script, that doesn't mean they're obligated to follow it to help the world make more sense to you in a convenient way.

I think that a lot of men see that women doing economically well and them having trouble having sex or finding girlfriends as proof that women are not oppressed and that men are becoming oppressed.

Also, I think that there is a phenomenon that many misogynists think that they are not misogynists because there are "other men" out there who are worse than they are. Ask the men on this sub "Do misogynist men exist?", and I am guessing that most men will say that some men (worse men than them) are misogynists.

People have various definitions of misogyny. For some people saying "only women can bear kids" is a misogyny.

You don't like Rey Skywalker and think she's a Mary Sue? You're a misogynist.

You don't think women can be as strong as men? You're a misogynist.

You don't think fat women are attractive? You're a misogynist.

At this point the word misogynist has been thrown around so much and so often that it has lost practically all meaning, and instead of being used accurately to describe someone who actually hates women, it's just used as a word to insult someone and get them to shut up when they say something women don't like.

So it's not like misogyny does not or cannot exist, it's just that the word has been used so frequently and so sloppily that the word has lost all credibility.

If I'm told that I'm a misogynist because I don't like Rey Skywalker, despite loving just about every other female character in Star Wars, then why should I take you seriously when you say I'm a misogynist for whatever is the latest thing that's got women outraged?

And to add on this why do some men act like they’re the only oppressed group ever and any other group involving women couldn’t fathom the levels of pain they endure.

See that's pretty much exacty what women and feminists have been saying nonstop for the last few decades. Pretty annoying to deal with, isn't it? If people don't like the taste of their own medicine, maybe they shouldn't be trying to shove it down everyone else's throats.

If you don't like it when men do it, then you shouldn't like it when feminists and women do it.

The best measure of sexism is in-group bias. Female in-group bias is significantly bigger than the borderline non-existant male in-group bias.

Misogyny feels like it's not acknowledged by men partly because misogyny does not exist to the extent women believe it does. If women could fix their misandry they would see that.

Another big factor is that misogyny has decreased over the last century or two but misandry went the other direction. So it's pretty obvious women are using accusations of misogyny as a weapon rather than a legitimate accusation based on principles of equality.

Everyone knows reddit is left leaning and pro-women, literally down to the ToS where women are considered a protected class, and are still convinced this platform is riddled with misogyny. I don't get it. You can post whatever generalizations or biases or hate you want about men and get praised for it, yet if men were to do the same they would get banned from the platform. Misogyny is real but some women have learned to weaponized it and antagonize men that they don't like or disagree with them. It's on the same boat of calling someone you don't like a nazi just because it's one of the worst accusation you can think of. The real answer is that a lot of the guys who come to this subreddit are misogynists that just want to complain about women or "hypergamy" or some bullshit reason as to why women are repulsed by them. Of course they'll deny the existence of misogyny because they think their beliefs and behaviour are normal or justified.

Don't expect any intellectually enriching conversation with the majority of these duds because they have minimal to no experience with women, spend an embarrassing amount of time on the internet, have nothing past a high school diploma, and are socially stunted.

Well, it does exist, but it doesn’t exist in the way women especially on here use it. Since basically any critique about women is said to be some form of misogyny, even if things that are fact based or evidence based are presented. So basically, it isnt properly used in modern times, so some men will not take it as seriously.

The reason is pretty simple. We see this with every social justice movement.

In the beginning there was real misogyny. Like actual systemic barriers put in place to prevent women from getting an education from becoming certain professions. These were real issues. They were really not allowed to vote.

So when feminists fought for rights. They were actually fighting for something. And a lot of people made a lot of money advocating for these things. An entire industry was built around it.

The trouble is. At some point the supply of misogyny far outweighs the demand. The demand is put in place by the companies WHO NEED MISOGYNY to exist. How many successful businesses are going to say "well looks like my job is done, there is no misogyny left". No they will exaggerate any little case they can find. Making mountains out of mole hills.

So at this point when people hear misogyny in 2026. They just roll their fucking eyes. It's usually some nothing burger nonsense that hardly affects anyone or is not even misogyny to begin with.

This is the real reason.

And as others have said, misogyny is sometimes defined too broadly. Some would say that "Women should be held accountable for their misdeeds to the same extent that men are for theirs" is misogynistic, while for me, it is simply egalitarian.

Misogyny exists of course. I'm MRA and I call out misogyny, even among the MRA. Misogyny is detrimental to our cause, at least because it help demonizing us, but also because it drives away some people that could be sympathetic to equality for men. Especially it drives away women, women are great advocates for mens rights...

Some men dismiss misogyny because people say that misandry doesn't exist, is not significant or not systemic. While of course misandry is a huge problem, so wast that people got used to, feel it is normal to denigrate men and thus don't recognize misandry. Men are denying misogyny as if it is a good response to denying misandry.

Same applies to oppression olympics, oppression pyramid is weaponized against men. Being oppressed or minority gives benefits, better treatment, even helps with education and employment prospects. Thus to have a chance in this weird dynamics men enter the game of claiming to be the most oppressed.

Misogyny exists on an individual level. I’ve known a few fellow men who are misogynists. I think the issue is thinking it continues to be some sort of pervasive structural/legal system that is consciously and systematically subjugating women.

Much like the idea that “misandry” is some sort of new structure put in place to oppress men.

In truth, no one in modern day America is oppressed in any systemic way. Your success (or lack thereof) is entirely your own, which is a terrifying thought for some people.

Sometimes people have a tendency to dismiss uncommon problems, so while misogyny does exist, it's natural for people to ignore it because of how insignificant it is. The fact that supporting gender equality is the most common example of "misogyny" that feminists give isn't helping.

No man denies that misoginy doesn't exist, it just isn't as bad or accepted as you women think it is.
You often confuse criticism with misoginy, thinking that any man that calls out a woman's bad behaviour is misoginy. When you are used with praise and compliments so much, you think valid criticism is oppression.
Any demographic group would get offended when you call their whole group or most of them misoginists, rapists or aggressors.
You women have the best and easiest lives you ever had in history of mankind and you are still never happy. You will never have a utopia with zero murder or zero rape, that will never happen because bad people will always exist no matter what, but that is what laws exist for.
Men have it the worst they ever had. They didn't have to work so many hours for so less ever, having a wife was much easier, having a family was much easier, they're still forced to go to war if a war breaks out and they were never so suicidal ever in history of mankind.

It depends on your definition of misogyny.

If you mean "hating women, actively wishing them harm, believing their rights should be restricted, claiming males are inherently superior, and wanting men to be in full control of society again", then most men will agree this is bad. But they're unlikely to be guilty of it themselves.

However, if you mean the more all-encompassing version of misogyny – (1) having any sort of opinion on male/female dynamics, (2) acknowledging that men face issues which in some ways are worse than those faced by women, (3) believing there are fundamental differences between men and women, (4) having any preference with regards to a potential female partner, and (5) preferring the company of other males in certain contexts – then most men will not acknowledge it as misogyny in the first place.
