It's frustrating because people don't want to understand. It isn't that they can't. People feel like they are losing something or conceding if they are forced to accept it.

I was at a pub with a few friends, my sister and her then bf. My sister had a biiiiiiiig mood swing and got angry at me and her bf. We were trying to stack beer mats into a pyramid like you do with playing cards. She kept knocking it down when we got so high. It all seemed in good fun.

After the third or fourth time this happened he picked up the beer mats and dumped them in her lap playfully. She responded by punching him hard in the side of the head.

Literally nobody else that was with us responded even though everybody saw. It clearly hurt him because he went quiet after that for the rest of the night.

Had it been the other way around everyone would have been in uproar and we would all have probably been asked to leave the premises. Even if he had hit her back people would have freaked out.

For the longest time I didn’t realize I wasn’t succeeding in online dating because my demeanor was so cold that I pretty much came across as I didn’t like anyone I was dating. Even after I noticed, it was very hard to change immediately. I am also someone that honestly wouldn’t like anyone in the first few dates just because I needed time to warm up to people. But change do happen, and you figure out different ways around it or communicate in a way that works for you.

You might be surprised what a few years of growing up can do. And also confidence in career can carry over and just help you grow in general. You’re a guy so you have even more time to grow and figure yourself out. Relax, get yourself financially stable and figure out what you want, what you don’t want, and why. Enjoy your life in the meantime.

Anecdotal evidence is a factual claim relying only on personal observation, collected in a casual or non-systematic manner. The term is sometimes used in a legal context to describe certain kinds of testimony which are uncorroborated by objective, independent evidence such as notarized documentation, photographs, audio-visual recordings, etc.

When used in advertising or promotion of a product, service, or idea, anecdotal reports are often called a testimonial, which are highly regulated[1] in some jurisdictions.

When compared to other types of evidence, anecdotal evidence is generally regarded as limited in value due to a number of potential weaknesses, but may be considered within the scope of scientific method as some anecdotal evidence can be both empirical and verifiable, e.g. in the use of case studies in medicine. Other anecdotal evidence, however, does not qualify as scientific evidence, because its nature prevents it from being investigated by the scientific method. Where only one or a few anecdotes are presented, there is a larger chance that they may be unreliable due to cherry-picked or otherwise non-representative samples of typical cases.[2][3] Similarly, psychologists have found that due to cognitive bias people are more likely to remember notable or unusual examples rather than typical examples.[4] Thus, even when accurate, anecdotal evidence is not necessarily representative of a typical experience. Accurate determination of whether an anecdote is typical requires statistical evidence.[5] Misuse of anecdotal evidence in the form of argument from anecdote is an informal fallacy[6] and is sometimes referred to as the "person who" fallacy ("I know a person who..."; "I know of a case where..." etc.) which places undue weight on experiences of close peers which may not be typical.

In all forms of anecdotal evidence its reliability by objective independent assessment may be in doubt. This is a consequence of the informal way the information is gathered, documented, presented, or any combination of the three. The term is often used to describe evidence for which there is an absence of documentation, leaving verification dependent on the credibility of the party presenting the evidence

Depends on what she's saying no to.

The last time this topic came up on PPD women here were saying nothing is cheating if she doesn't intend to have sex. They said grinding with guys in a club is fine as long as they don't have sex after it.

Is she saying no to dancing and grinding? Or just the part at the end when he tries to make a move on her?

If she's going out and suggestively dancing with guys but ultimately not kissing them or doing anything else then it isn't explicitly cheating. But it's still a massive betrayal of trust.

You can't actually stop your gf from going clubbing because at the end of the day she is going to do whatever she wants to do.

But if she is doing anything there that she wouldn't do if her boyfriend was with her then there's a problem there. Even if she ends up rebuffing the guys at the end.

Ehhh I think that's a little unfair. Human beings are if anything a very predictable species. Predictable = easy to manipulate.

I think what you attribute to being mentally ill, I would be more likely to attribute to being brainwashed with ideology from a young age.

When TV, movies, your favourite artists/bands, the news, Hollywood etc are all screaming at you day in day out that X good, Y bad. You are probably going to grow up with a loathing hatred for Y and an unshakeable belief that X is all that is good in the world.

It takes a lot of introspection and strength of character to pull yourself away from all of that. It's much easier to be a part of the crowd. As an NPC you don't have to think for yourself or question why you believe the things you do. You just do what you're told and there's a freedom in that.

those men who fuck a lot "won" in evolutionary terms, they passed down tons of genes. But then they did not aim for sluts, sluts were rare. Social ostracization was painful and extreme. I mean this same response does not seem to be present in women for male sluts, not as frequently or in the same magnitude. Maybe because of high status men having concubines and supporting multiple families?

If Men who married women who were sluts raised kids which did not have their genes, who cheated on them, who brought kids from previous relationships (contraceptives is quite recent), miscarriage, pregnancy was dangerous and took a toll on the women's body.

Men with disgust sensitivity started to dominate the gene pool, human females don't have honest signals of ovulation. They have concealed ovulation. It is not like men mate guard. I think the evidence points to this being a good explanation.

every animal deals with this tension their own way.

1) In stick insects, the strategy is not to let go of the female for several months after mating with her. The male stays clamped onto the female's back, and since males are usually smaller, the female can still move around and get food in this predicament. She just can't get a new mate.

If you read about Extra-pair copulation EPC in the animal kingdom has mostly been studied in birds and mammals. You will find monogamy is mostly social and sexually the incentive is to cheat.

So my point is all this shows that men had to develop mechanism to prevent women from cheating. Disgust response, shaming, social ostracisation seems to have been based on this.

I don't think you can fully decouple the past like that. The correlations are not there for no reasons. It is not a single sexual encounter 5 years ago that causes people to be labelled a slut. A slut tag is given to women who are "easy", they provide access to their bodies easily and thus to many men. They are cheap. This means that the threshold to cheat is lower.

I also think the concept of time itself is not that strong, when you hear about her sexual history and your imagination plays it out in your head then it feels like it happened right now. The primal brain is not smart enough to be logical and reasonable about how it was something that happened long ago and now this person is different.

There was a museum in San Francisco where they filled drinking water into a toiler and pumped it up to us to drink. It was show to us how the water was perfectly clean and the water fountain while it looked like a toilet was totally clean, never used for defecation. But logic does not help and disgust respond prevented most people from using that water fountain proving the point that reason does not help here.

Older environmental adaptations are biological and more recent ones are cultural. That is the only difference.

I've noticed that there's a lot of bad discussion about the role of dopamine here lately. Dopamine release happens during seeking to encourage the seeking behavior, it's not a reward itself.

I'm not sure if the nofaps have drifted to even more delusional or if it's the new antiporn people who have that awful website that are fucking this all up. I haven't been on the nofap subreddit in close to a decade but they used to at least understand this.

For example studies of gambling addicts (true in other addicts) show dopamine release happens in anticipation of the game and during it. After winning or losing dopamine fuels further gambling. Dopamine is about encouraging the seeking behavior that might lead to the reward.

Discussion here seems to make it sound like sex or porn is about wanting to access dopamine. But that's just not how it works. The buzz you feel while chasing the reward is the dopamine. It's a subtle difference but it's a fundamental difference.

I think alot of men just crave the intimacy and validation they receive from casual sex and try to hamster that into a necessity.

Because we don't get much if any validation elsewhere and we have a way higher sex drive. I felt better from a self a self validation perspective and from an outside validation perspective from having a girlfriend and getting laid than when I graduated university or stopped being poor. I felt more validated getting touched on a regular basis by someone that cared about me than when I stopped having to live off ramen or when I hit the six figure mark. It isn't just my issue either look at how people judge you for it when I graduated university the collective response was big deal nobody cares but if I don't bring a girlfriend to the Christmas gathering with my family they think I am weird. "Single" for men and "single" for women don't even remotely mean the same thing in most cases.

Single for a man usually means total and complete loneliness, romantically speaking. He's generally not only not having sex, but also receives zero attention from women at all. Women who are single generally can still get regular sex, validation and companionship from men at the drop of the hat. And more often than not if they aren't getting any of those things it's because they are choosing not to, not because they can't.

It's not just this issue.

It's everything else. It's domestic abuse. It's support in schools and everything else. It's giving the same level of empathy to men who have issues as we do to women.

Women seem content to not care or "let people make their own choices" when it doesn't impact them.

50/50 and equality is a clear vision. It's about making sex and gender not important and reducing the impact of your sex on how life turns out for you.

That's a simple philosophy that people can in theory agree upon.

But once you start deviating from that vision and start saying things like "oh, but we need to be given this thing in exchange for that thing". Then you effectively break the basis for any agreements you might have. You're now arguing for the version of equality that exists inside your own head. Which is different to everyone else's. So now we're arguing what exactly "equal but different" looks like.

How expensive a date do men need to pay for to make up for some sexual assault? That's just impossible.

I don't think you're actually as committed to gender equality as you make out. I don't actually believe you when you say you're opposed to gender roles.

Kind of, but not quite.

Like "equal but different" is a perfectly reasonable position. There are strong arguments for it. There is asymmetry between the sexes. Women obviously have to carry children and men don't as an example.

The problem is that it's really hard to argue for anything when it comes to "equal but different"

With 50/50 and gender equality as a goal you can look at each topic, say "oh here men/women have it worse" and then rectify or distort society in some way to make things "more fair". There's some disagreement over who has it worse but at least you're united on the same goal.

But with "equal but different" you can't really do that. You end up squabbling over what trades need to made for what other thing. I'm not convinced anything you could argue would be any better than the market just trying to find some equilibrium.

Which is why you may as well let the market decide. Men should stop complaining to women about fairness and just vote for politicians who will help boys in schools. Or give money to education charities for men. Everyone focuses on themselves and their own. There are no grounds to appeal to women on. If that makes sense?

Unfortunately that isn't possible because women control politicians and the government so you will be forced by gunpoint to do things like pay taxes to pay for single mothers or they will seize your house because you refused to pay property taxes that support the local schools which discriminate against boys. Women already controlling it with men having no in group bias like women have for women means nothing will change. Even when guys refuse to participate in the system that is against them society and especially women blame them and attack them such as guys who are working less hours at lesser paying jobs. I have thought over this subject long enough that I know it is an unwinnable battle so I plan to give up citizenship and leave the country just so my retirement money and potential taxes is not supporting women and a society who discriminated against me, but that isn't a realistic option for most people.

But people don't want to opt out. People want relationships.

I think this is what I find frustrating. It's that we often ignore that or pretend that's a silly thing to want.

We're supportive and tell people they can be what they want to be and that makes us feel good. But when those people do exactly that, try to date and then end up failing we shrug our shoulders and say "well ... not everybody needs to date".

That's not kind. That's not caring. We haven't helped that person. We've just made ourselves feel better about ourselves.

It clear people want to date. That desire to date effectively creates gender roles and limits on gender expression whether we like it or not.

The only people truly free or close to free are homosexuals and bisexuals. It's clear that straight people are much more limited. I don't know if we can change that.

Not necessarily with stonewalling, but a lot of women act in ways that might seem like interest to men with limited social skills or lack of positive interactions in their lives.

In recent times, I’ve had trouble determining whether or not some of my female friends are into me because some of them will cross boundaries that others won’t (certain kinds of physical touch, talking about sex frequently, talking about my body in uncomfortable ways, etc), and sometimes this turns out to be genuine interest that they are uncomfortable with expressing fully and sometimes they are just bored.

Conversely, it can be easy to miss indicators of interest when you’re not looking for them. Women often give “hints” that they are interested that fly over the heads of men.

Men often don’t consciously communicate with as much subtext as women do, so it can be hard to read what someone is really feeling when they express themselves differently than you do

The makeup argument isn’t projection when you see firsthand how it affects the self image of your female friends. Instead of being this fun thing that’s supposed to boost your confidence, it oftentimes will instead become a requirement to have on to cover up an insecurity.

IMO it’s less about cheating and more about the fact that women hold the effort they put into makeup as some kind of high ground over men (which, admittedly, most men should put more effort into their appearance, just not makeup).

Makeup can enhance your looks often at the cost of your self-image without it, or it can just make you look stupid because you’ve overdone it or you don’t have the skill to make it look natural. In the case where neither of this occurs and a woman has both skill with makeup and a healthy self-esteem without it, I don’t give a fuck

It's a bit of a vicious cycle perpetuated by men and women. The idea of makeup is meant to embellish features, reduce flaws, and display signs of youthfulness. Men and society want women to look youthful and put together, so it drives this desire for women to want to wear makeup. In places like metropolitan areas of Japan, it can be "embarrassing" for you to NOT wear makeup.

There was one menacing guy that kept showing up on my daily walks and staring at me. No one knew him. I waved and said hi, like you do with all of your neighbors, but he only stared. IOI stands for "indicator of interest." No, I'm not talking about simple kindness or platonic stuff. Women absolutely do go around flirting with men they have no sexual interest in. Did you know that the actual definition of "flirt" is "behave as though attracted to or trying to attract someone, but for amusement rather than with serious intentions." Because he was telling me about life in his country and his stories didn’t add up. First he said one of his parents was born in Italy and he can’t speak Spanish. I have a lot of opinions about this as I often would get impatient with men who just had “so how was your day? 🙂” type convos that never went anywhere, so I learned pretty quickly to just take the initiative to ask them out myself.
