Doubt it’d change much.

1) huge social stigma, so I doubt many more women would become prostitutes

2) quick google shows that they charge somewhere on the order of 3-500/hr. Doubt many men have the disposable income to afford that with any regularity. And there’s a big difference between getting laid as a one-off and getting laid as part of a relationship.

3) even if the supply of prostitutes were to suddenly quadruple and push prices down, the market will self correct to some new equilibrium. And if that happened, ostensibly fewer women will be in the dating pool. But honestly, I don’t think legalization would do squat.

4) legalization doesn’t stop people from doing what they want to do anyway. Look at marijuana. Underage drinking. Driving without seatbelts, etc. People will do what they want to do within their risk tolerance.

Prostitution is an available option to men now if they genuinely want it. Prostitution being illegal in some areas doesn't mean that men aren't doing it.

But ultimately the value or perceived success of prostitutes depends on the individual man. Some men love prostitutes and prefer them. Other men hate the idea.

The disdain that men have for prostitution is that they feel it emasculates them. They feel empty and worthless that they had to pay a woman to have sex with them. They have a belief that sex has to be "earned" or "conned" out of a woman. There isn't much enjoyment for paying for it.

Check any incel sub. Men who resort to using prostitutes are still bitter and angry about women rejecting them. It seems to make their already deteriorated mental health worse.

It's not just access to sex, it's also the way that sex happens and the validation from sex that men are looking for.

There will also be the added layer of exclusion from women who are turned off by men who use prostitutes.

Here's the problem with all that.... most of a relationship is spent NOT having sex. Even if you did it for one hour every day, there's still 23 more to fill up. You'll both spend 8 hours sleeping, but that still leaves 15 hours for other activities. That time is where the relationship lives or dies, not that brief period spent in the bedroom.

I doubt it'd change much. There are countries were sex work is legal. And I'm from NV; having prostitution legal on the outskirts doesn't seem to impact dating here. There's also a big (illegal) escort industry in Vegas; I've heard male coworkers complain that there's too many sex workers here because they want a real relationship, but their options are primarily pay to play, lower their standards, and even then some of them underperform because they're lacking qualities of a good partner or are abusive. (A new guy here has been seeing sex workers while having a gf who is trying to leave him, but he runs up her cards and puts her name on documents that tie him to her (lease and stuff) and basically makes it next to impossible for her to leave.)

Maybe it would help some guys with the sex stuff, but it doesn't look like it'd really do much to the dating market overall. I'm for sex workers having their jobs and rights protected. I have a feeling this may be what happens if American culture keeps commodifying sex at every chance. OF exists, escorts exist, etc. It's such a big industry that it's likely going to end up with some form of regulation if people become okay with sex work as a valid source of income. That's basically what NV did.

I don't think it'd change much for men or women who are looking to seriously date. I can't imagine a woman hanging onto a man or "trying harder" just because "what if he sees a sex worker"? They're more than likely dump the guy or just encourage him to go and use protection/get tested afterward if it doesn't bother them. Or invite a third person to their dynamic? Who knows. If you have to "try" to keep your partner from seeing a sex worker, that's probably not a good relationship for anyone involved. Most women don't want men who want to sleep with sex workers. People in healthy relationships don't use potentially sleeping with others as leverage; if a relationship isn't satisfying to both parties, they need to split up imo.

Los Angeles has a few different spots where prostitution is “illegal” but not exactly enforced. The same dating problems prevail there. Pretty much every city has asian massage parlors that will provide extra services for the right price, and prostitution ( or “escorting” if you will) has a strong online presence.

Men that have disposable income and/or lack of self control use it has a hobby. This stuff has been around for a long time. So even if it was legalized, I don’t think there would be -that- much of an uptick in this kind of activity.

As a women I would definitely be up for it. I think it would improve the safety for a lot of women but it would need to be managed carefully, eg no drunk clients, showered, client is checked for signs of infection and condoms at all times, but apart from that it could be great for a lot of guys, you can get the gf experience or literally in and out as regularly as you want. Of course it’s not going to solve the problem as some guys refuse to pay for it and just want the relationship and it almost definitely will be expensive but hey it’s experience for some people.

In my country prostitution is legal. Nothing changes: most men don’t want to have sex with a service provider but with a woman who chooses to have sex with them. Legal means getting bunch of laws covered, for example, women must do proper gynecological examination few times a year, so it would reduce STD'S.

If prostitution were legal - and socially normalized - a small percentage of broken men would turn out more well-adjusted. The involuntary in incel would lose all of its meaning because women wouldn’t be the social gatekeepers of all sexual activity anymore. Guys who had given up because women don’t like them would get a chance to feel sexual. The only society that would prohibit men from that is one that is actively trying to destroy their mental health.

Women have benefitted from putting in minimal effort for long enough that they hate the thought of having to compete with legal prostitution. OLD has always worked well for me. But, I know it doesn't work well for others. Would I pay a few hundred bucks to get laid? Hmmm. Probably not. Does dating possibly cost a few hundred bucks before you get laid? Yep. But, the sex is consistent and there are diminishing costs over time. Once you have a girlfriend the dating part, and expenses go down while the sex remains high.

Marriage has the inverse math involved. When dating or engaged the sex frequency is high. Once women get the ring it goes down since they've accomplished their goal. Oral sex becomes a once a year birthday gift. Once you have kids sex goes away a lot.

Also, a lot depends on age. I got married young so the sex was consistent for me even after kids. We didn't even wait as long as the doctor told us post-delivery because SHE as horny. All those hormones. But, 5-7 years in it really dies down in frequency and passion. But, if you just keep them as a partner or "forever girlfriend" then the sex is constant if you both have decent sex drives.

what many people fail to realize is that legalization will bring in huge capital into the prostitution business, scaling it up, lowering prices, and making it more widespread.

The people who say legalizing it will have no effect really underestimate the impact of capital coming into the business. You could have large scale brothels opening up like those huge gas stations that also have big convenience stores attached. Imagine being on the road, getting gas, grabbing a snack, and also being able to get 20 minutes of sex through a gloryhole for $30.

Men would be able to shit-can all the useless, female-biased dating apps, so their wallets would see an improvement, but then, that and any savings from the avoidance of costs associated with dating, would likely be spent on escorts on Friday night.

Unless the prostitutes were great enough in numbers and similar enough in attractiveness to females at large so as to create a kind of shadow dating, I don’t think you would see a difference in life.
