I've been wondering this.

My parents divorced when I was a kid, and my mother, bless her, was a very troubled person, alcoholic, suicidal, bitter, that whole greek tragedy. She made my father's life hell for about 10 years (probably longer, that's just the years I remember). The divorce was messy.

My dad is great. He basically raised me and my sisters single handed, worked like a dog, and I can never remember him even complaining. Kind of dad that should be in the manual on how to dad.

Now, when I got married, I thought, well, my soon to be wife, she's great. Nothing like my mother. Nothing like my friend's nightmare exes. She's kind, and rational, generous, and all that.

Guess what? Soon as she felts secure in the relationship, the kind, rational person I married is out the window, and replaced by an entitled, petulant child, who has no compunction about regularly breaking the golden rule all up in my grill.

But when I told my dad I was getting married, he never said, "Are you sure?". He said "That's great news!". And my dad has also got re-married, even after his previous experience.

Why? I mean, seriously, you guys who have sons, are you going to caution them? (How about you guys with daughters, come to that). Are you going to just tell them to go forth and multiply?

I'm not saying I would have done it if my dad had said "Run for the fucking hills". But I definitely would have listened.

Just curious.
