I'm fucking 29 and living at home still. UK.

I lost my 20s to taking care of my mother until she got better. Now I'm going to lose my 30s taking care of my grandparents because they smoked from the age of 13, refused to stop, are getting dementia from it, and no one else can do it.

I could rent, but I feel like I'd be burning money then. Money that I'm short on anyway. I can't buy a house because I've only got ten grand in savings after struggling for ten years.

If one of these bastards doesn't leave me a house, I'm going to go insane... They weren't even good to me growing up. Always yelling and hitting me.

In American culture, I'd wonder why a woman was still living at home after age 25. I wouldn't rule out dating her, but I'd just be curious why she wasn't living on her own. I'm not sure if my standard is lenient or not compared to other men's. I'm also not sure if women have stricter standards about men living at home.

In other cultures, unmarried women can live longer at home even after that age, though.

Depends if you have been there the whole time or are just having to move back in temporarily. Buckle down save up/get skills and move out. If you are executing a well thought plan then no worries about the age because you will be out soon.

Seems to be becoming the norm these days, especially with housing prices being what they are. It was the norm for centuries in many places to have multigenerational family homes.

Everyone moving to their own place is a money racket for the landlords, so I suggest not paying it too much attention.

In Asian and African cultures, multiple generations of families including people in their 20s living at home is normal

My thoughts were just "oh that's awesome" and I know she lives by the beach so she must have a really nice time. Anyone who judges you for living with your parents at any age is a freak. We need to start publically shaming people who judge people for that.

A lot of people only move out to live with a partner, and they're not even seen as that weird. But even if you don't see it as weird it can be inconvenient - I suspect this woman lives with her parents and thinks dating could be ruined without a private space you can retreat to without one person's parents being liable to burst in at any moment.

It's hard to say. Housing prices are through the roofs and a big share of men and women in some of the biggest cities will never be able to afford living away from parents without roommates or a significant other on a below average salary. What I do find to be a massive flag are high earning people who live with their parents and are not their caretakers. I've seen several people like this and they seem to be too dependent on parents. There's no specific age for this.

It entirely depends on circumstances and reasons, I would say. You can be almost any age if you're caring for a parent or saving for a house of your own.

It also depends on the person you're seeking too, if they value family and finances, age doesn't matter much. If they value independence, they may want you moved out by 18.

Depends, I find there are two hitches as a guy.

First, lots of women actually assume your a mommas boy. A real man would be able to make enough to support himself, so you as a guy is clearly getting your partners to support to with all you chores and such. (Tldr, women want to be looked after, not looking after someone else. Living at home paints the picture that you, as a guy, are being looked after).

Second, a lot of ladies are like shadow creatures from beyond the void, they want to fuck but doesn't want anyone to know that they could want to fuck. (Parents in the house makes it feel awkward for them because, I don't actually get it but I guess sex is still scandalous for them).

Aka, Literally the same weird shit women feel about pooping at a partners place (if a shit can neither be seen, heard, or smelled, did a shit really occur?)

I stayed home until 25, when I could have left at 21, and had a nice place on my own.

I left my home with a large amount of money, and a lucrative business. I purchased a nice house, and got my dream car. Went from looking like a dork, to “what the hell does that guy do?”.

Nothing wrong with staying home past 25 either, what matters is what that person is doing at home. Unfortunately, it’s likely they’re screwing off statistically speaking, but realistically, people are home with family for a lot of reasons.

That being said, you can’t really blame anyone for judging if you’re staying after 25+, but if it’s for good reasons, fuck em.

It’s all relative - housing is ridiculously expensive in the UK and a single salary won’t get you very far in terms of renting, and most people under 30 have little chance of ever buying a house. Increasingly adults live at home, not through choice, but because it’s either that or hand over two thirds of your salary for the privilege of occupying the mould-ridden box room in a house of multiple occupancy to fund some boomers retirement.

It'll vary culture to culture.

In the US, there seems to be this push where if you're not out of your parents house living in some shit hole apartment struggling to make the "American dream" come true for yourself by 20, you're a loser.

The UK used somewhat similar but there's been a recent shift in the past 10 - 15yrs with the cost of living crisis. Unless you consider Uni having moved out, most people aren't too fussed about it unless you're approaching 30.

Depends on the circumstances. I was judged for still living at home even at 26, but they didn't know my circumstances. My dad died years ago and me and my mom had huge amount of debts. I lived with her to help her out and since I didn't have a gf, why not? I still don't have a gf even now at 33 and now we both live in a rented house in a foreign country. We are basically like roomates, helping each other out. I am not dependent on her and she is not dependent on me. Living with her is no different than living with a roommate, but alas, people judge and I have to tell women that I live by myself.

depends on cultural background + reasons for it. For example, in many cultures, it is normal to stay at home until you’re married. In north america and the UK, leaving home as soon as you’re adult is encouraged (even if it is becoming less and less likely) - all in all, there is no ‘weird’ age imo, so much of it depends on context. I went away for college and then moved back in with my parents for grad school to save money when I was in my mid-20s. It wasn’t weird at all but my family is Hispanic and that’s considered normal in our culture… especially if you’re single but even if you’re married you can still bring your spouse to live with family and it’s not a big deal.

It may make dating a little awkward though if you want to bring someone back to your place (I never did lol until I was engaged).

This is so dependent on culture, class, and location that it's hard to say.

I would say in the upper-middle class and above it's almost universally expected that you move out instantly or not long after college, so at 21 or 22 or 23 at the latest. If you're white I think it starts being exponentially more weird the more years you are out from college/high school, with it being very weird past 25 or 26 unless your family is poor.

If you're hispanic/indian (and lower-middle class/poor), a lot of people live with their parents pretty much until marriage and it's not seen as weird. I don't really know how it is for black people or poor/middle class east asian people.
