Yea, no kidding. Men and women have evolved different mating strategies, with men's being more of a scattershot approach. Women are hardwired to be more selective, based on the underlying reality of childbearing. The quality of their partner is very important to their offspring's health and provision for the both of them: If they were as horny as men, that would mean being less discriminating, which could lead to serious negative consequences.

This is definitely true, though once in a relationship I think it can be a lot more varied. Men need to ejaculate a lot, but it’s not necessarily uncommon for women to desire sex with their partner more often than the partner needs it.

There’s also sort of a decoupling of sexual promiscuity and libido in single people, as for both men and women, “modern masturbation” (I.e. with toys or porn) is often more physically pleasurable than many of the sexual options available to each, and comes with less risk, time, and energy requirement as well.

I don’t even think women are attracted to men the same way men are attracted to women

I’ve asked women if they saw the most attractive man in the world would they approach or etc. and they all said no. And all that means to me is they aren’t actually attracted to men. Like men are attracted to women.

With that understanding. Anything else falls in line adds to this. So whose to say if it’s low libido. Or just not enough attraction. I knew a woman who said she masturbated everyday. But she was not trying to be with a man because she hated men and trauma and etc. so was her libido low? I mean if she’s masturbating everyday it can’t be that low.

I just think the way we try to understand woman libido and attraction is to project that it’s the same was as how we work. I propose that it’s entirely different. So in that sense. Think the paradigm of the way of thinking about libido and attraction should shift. At least when it comes to women specifically

I’m not necessarily disputing this, but also I think it’s worth mentioning some things anyway as food for thought:

•A lot of the data about this is based on self reports which aren’t the most reliable when it comes to sensitive/stigmatized topics like sexuality

•Female sexuality has historically always been more taboo, with expectations of chastity/purity more culturally enforced on women, while sexual promiscuity, hypersexuality and self pleasure have been much more socially accepted for men. It goes without saying that societal expectations definitely influence a person’s behavior.

•A woman’s libido can change throughout her menstrual cycle and is less “stable” than men’s

•Medications like hormonal contraceptives and SSRIs are prescribed more (or exclusively) to women, both of these are known to reduce libido

•Women are less likely to orgasm during partnered sex than men are, which might de-incentivize women from desiring it as frequently

•Women don’t have the refractory period men do, it’s not unusual for women to have multiple successive orgasms in one “session” during masturbation (especially during peak ovulation)

Again, not disputing your claim. These are just some things to think about.

So from what I’ve read the average libido for a man is higher than the average woman BUT 1/3 women actually have a higher libido compared to the average man. So tbh, if all things are considered it’s not that far off from each other.

Another take that I’ve noticed. I’m a woman with a high libido. If I could have sex everyday, twice a day with two sessions every time we have sex I would. But the average man can NOT keep up with that. I often feel like libido is also very different amongst women and men due to societal structures. Woman are taught to not be as promiscuous as men and to withhold from their sexual desires while oftentimes men are told to indulge. Libido is just the “desire” to have sex. If you were taught to suppress this ofc there’s going to be some varying differences. You also have women who are taught to love a man for his personality vs looks while most guys are taught different. This oftentimes lead to dead bedrooms because the woman is not sexually attracted to her partner which in return makes her “lack” desire for sex. Due to our recent society starting to change its ideologies I’m very curious to see how this has changed from generation to generation.

Also, most women tend to desire more sex if they’re not as stressed, sexually satisfied with that partner, and sexually attracted to their partners.

Most women I have encountered had very high drives compared to their male counterparts when in long term committed relationships.

Overall, I feel like these studies don’t factor in everything that can increase or decrease your libido.

Especially if you think something is obvious, it is crucial to look for well founded counter evidence, not supporting evidence. Trying to prove yourself wrong is the only way to increase your understanding of the limits of your hypothesis. If you look solely for supporting evidence, you can prove almost anything. It cannot be overstated how epistemologically dangerous this approach is, despite its popularity.

Also, look for quality research and thinkers, do not assess on the basis of outcome.

When it comes to sexuality is experienced, there are catalysts and inhibitors. I think that men and women have roughly the same "amount" of catalysts on average but women have much more inhibitors, and that results in the generally different behaviours observed.

I am not a man, so please correct me if I am wrong, but it seems to me that to vast majority of men sexuality is associated with: pleasure, joy, satisfaction, comfort, self-esteem, appreciation, excitement.

For many women, on the other hand sexuality is associated with: pleasure, joy, satisfaction, comfort, self-esteem, appreciation, excitement BUT ALSO fear, danger to life, danger to health, possibility of violence, possibility of loss of control of the situation, discomfort, pregnancy, pain, giving birth, being treated like an inanimate object, being shamed. That is on top of memories of being groped by a threatening man at the age of 11 or some similar experience many women have. I don't think it's as common for boys to have this experience, especially coming from an older woman, although of course it does happen too and deserves as much attention and compassion.

Another component of that when we grow up, and the situation is changing now, but this is still relevant, we socialise into seeing men as very multifaceted: we are taught about men-artists, men-scientists, men-composers, men-explorers, men-entrepreneurs, men-philanthropists, men-romantic-characters and this is great of course. When we learn about women we socialise into seeing them (and ourselves) as mothers or exhibitors of performative sexuality (even thought there are many remarkable women with scientific and artistic achievements in the past and in the present). This is all the while women's role as a member of a family unit is overemphasised while also being denigrated at the same time, when men's role in familiar structure is reduced to making money, if mentioned at all. For example, growing up (in a non-Western country) I heard "girls are future mothers" (and sometimes with a meaning "... and that's all they are good for" as if being a mother is not good, not respectable) multiple times, while I don't think I ever heard "boys are future fathers" a single time. This repeated teaching programmes women to be more mindful of the impact sex can have on their and others lives (rightly so), while men don't feel the possibility of fatherhood coming as a natural consequence of sex as vividly (even though it it is there, men are just repeatedly taught to ignore it).

In my opinion, this is the core reason why some men are not as interested in women's' personality as women in general are in men's, some of them just don't see us as having personalities, don't see any use in developing lasting bonds with women, coz what for, if women are only good for sex in their eyes. And many women are aware of that, which makes them very wary.

It sure seems true. I wouldn't think to deny it. But I'm not sure that's *necessarily* what scientists have concluded. I'm not sure libido is even an accepted scientific term. I think there's a lot we still don't understand about sex drives and what motivates them.

The difficulty with making a straight comparison is that men's hormones are relatively stable compared to women's. Over the course of a month, a woman's libido is probably going to fluctuate more than a man's. During the follicular phase, both estrogen and testosterone levels rise before peaking during ovulation, which often causes a noticeable increase in libido. In the luteal phase, estrogen and testosterone decrease, while progestrone increases, which can cause libido to drop.

And, of course, women have menopause to contend with. Men do experience a drop in testosterone as they age, but it's not nearly as extreme as what happens to women during the menopause. At age 55, the average woman's estrogen levels will have declined by about 90%. Compared to a 55 year old man whose testosterone levels only would have dropped by 15-25%.

So yes, as an overall thing, men have a higher libido than women. But, if we compared 25 year old man's libido with the libido of a 25 year old woman right at the end of her follicular phase, they would probably be more evenly matched.

To a great extent, the two genders are running different enough software and hardware that it can be hard to make a perfect stronger / weaker comparison. That said, overall the pattern is strong enough to agree with the OP.

But I'd be careful of picking any one metric as the definitive way of measuring libido strength. Furthermore, cultural and environmental factors do matter. Even if it does not close the gap, one can imagine cultures and circumstances where the difference might be significantly smaller.
