Currently in the states, Obesity is higher in women (about 40 percent) than men (35 percent). In addition, roughly 26.5 % of women are now overweight in the states and the remainder have normal BMI or are underweight.

This means that a woman of normal BMI has way more bargaining power in finding a mate than her male equivalent as she would be in hot demand. Thus, one has to wonder whether the craze of liking women "thick" was an adaption by the American media (think about promotion of + size models like Ashley Graham, Nicki minaj etc) to change male preference for slender women as it would not be feasible for most men to find a woman who is slender in the states.
