I had a classmate of mine (7-8 years old) sexually harass me by making inappropriate noises, movements, and asking me if I know how people usually have sex. There was another boy, who once came up to me as I was eating Chupa Chups (lollipop) among other girls, and said, “wow, you suck it well”. He was 12. I was 11 maybe.

Thinking back, I am still livid.

This resonates with me. I got bullied at school and whenever I stood up for myself I was the one in trouble. My younger sibling was being bullied by a boy so I chased him around the playground till he feigned an asthma attack and once again I was the one in trouble. This is probably a huge part of the reason I don't want to have children if this is the environment they have to go into.

In second grade, I was forced to sit next to the worst kid in class (in the back of the room, at that) because I was so quiet and well-behaved. This asshole kid was constantly bothering me, making weird noises, hitting me, poking me, pinching me, etc. Why was I so quiet and well-behaved? Because I was terrified of everyone and never spoke up, so I had to endure this kid's abuse.

A few months ago, he was on the news for murder. He was 47 years old. THEY DON'T FUCKING CHANGE.

This happened to me. My teacher thought this was a great idea and paired everyone. I had to get her to rearrange the seating arrangement for the whole class because of this phenomenon. She told me, "In the future you're going to have to work with men (boys) that are like this and you can't always pout and get your way." I told her, "I'll deal with it when that happens. For now, we need to fix this seating issue."

Many years later and I still don't put up with crap. It has gotten me wayyyyy farther in life than being paired with a deadweight man.

For many years in elementary teachers used to place me in a row of 3 inbetween two naughty boys because I was quiet and hard-working. I would be so annoyed and not to mention distracted from my studies. Such an insidious and harmful practice that starts in childhood. Boys get to be boys, girls better mature QUICKLY to take care of them. No wonder the world is full of pickmeisha's and LVMs.

They don't mature faster, they have to acquaint themselves with suffering/depravity sooner. A little boy has his whole childhood to get scuffed up, your childhood fun ends the day blood is running down your shorts and you think you're dying. If you're a young girl who develops VERY early, then you also have to acquaint yourself of the knowledge that there's adult men creeping in trucks behind you your whole walk from school. A whole world of optimism is cut off from girls sooner because people around them tell them they have to start patrolling their outfits and their entire once inviting/bubbly demeanor to brave the sick world in which they live.

I'm so angry reading this. I was the quiet and well-behaved kid from a rough home but of course that was overlooked because my quietness was convenient. For 8 years I was bullied by the class clowns. I was seated between them for most of it and had my pens and glasses stolen, hair pulled, marks drawn on my arms, and at one point they lifted me and my chair up to table height during class. I got in trouble for all of it while being told that's how boys show they like you. It really fucked up how I understood flirting and courting and relationships. This was in the 90s and I'm so angry this is still happening to little girls. We're not responsible for anyone's behaviors but our own and our education shouldn't be held back while these creeps in training are excused.

When I was in 2nd grade there was a 4th grade boy who would literally follow me everywhere on the playground, just staring. My pickme mom was friends with his family so she kept telling me to be nice to him and never listened when I told her he made me really uncomfortable. Well, one day he cornered me in a secluded part of the playground, knocked me down, laid on top of me and kept kissing me. It was awful, but I knew no one would help me or do anything about it. So everytime I had to see him after I did everything I could to stay as far away from him as possible. The next time he tried to corner me, I kicked him in the groin. Thankfully he left me alone after that, but spread this awful rumors about me for awhile.

Then in middle school a different boy started picking on me. He was the only boy in the class who was taller than me, so for whatever reason he decided to make me his target. Well- I would fight back/fire back because at this point I had had it with being picked on. One day the guidance counselor called us both in along with my mother to reprimand me. Not him for bullying me, but me for standing up to him. My mother and the counselor both agreed that we “bickered like a married couple” and that this bully and I “would likely get married some day” she even ASKED this kid if he bullied me because he had a crush on me. Of course he said yes, and she decided that she couldn’t punish him for how he “expressed his feelings about me.” My mother agreed with her. We were both like 11 for context. Thinking back I’m still disgusted and livid.

A few years later this guidance counselor got caught having sex with the married principal of the school in his office. Turns out they had been having an affair for years. Yup.

I enrolled my daughter in a tiny private Montessori elementary school for this fall specifically to try to avoid her going through what I went through. It’s expensive, but so worth it if it means I have greater recourse if she’s harassed/bullied. I’m hopeful there will be a lower likelihood of it happening in the first place since the classroom size is tiny and they put a big focus on teaching kids emotional intelligence. Fingers crossed.

I remember being seated next to a kid in 5th grade I think? Boy was like a foot shorter than me and just randomly started rapidly punching my upper arm while the teacher left the classroom to do who knows what. I shrugged it off cause that kid was a munchkin even though we were the same age and grade. Idr exactly what I did in response but cause I grew up with a bunch of brothers, became a tomboy and I enjoyed being physical and roughhousing too, picked up on a lot of boy traits. Ever since then, the crap public school system would always single me out cause I always appeared unengaged, not interested, didn't care enough or try enough. Soo exactly how the boys are.

Yup! This also happens among siblings. My brother used to hit, bite, and beat me up as a kid. But I was also punished alongside him for 'provoking him'. I'm sure I could be annoying, but this essentially taught me that it was my fault if a boy assaulted me, and taught him that violence was just a logical retaliation against verbal taunts. I remember a couple times when I didn't even actually do anything to 'provoke' him, and he attacked me, and I still got punished. Like once I didn't want to play with him, so he beat me up and then held me down on the floor for 20 minutes so I couldn't move until my parents got home. Then boom it was my fault for not playing with him, because "I should understand that he has a temper and try not to set him off." My brother has grown up a lot and he's a pretty good guy now but this bugs me a lot thinking back.

Reading these comments just unlocked a memory for me that I'd forgotten about/suppressed. I was that quiet well behaved girl. Part of why I was as quiet and well behaved as I was is because I have a significant learning disability and was literally just trying to get through school at all. I have significant attention issues where even seeing a bird out the window can distract me so you can imagine how bad it'd be if I was put next to a badly behaving student. That didn't matter to my teacher in one of my classes though, in that teachers mind, it was perfectly acceptable to put me next to the highly disruptive boy with severe Tourettes Syndrome. The Tourettes effected him by causing him to spit at people, swear constantly and generally be a nightmare to deal with. Somehow he got a pair of scissors one time and literally chased me around the room like he was gonna stab me with them. How he even gained access to the scissors I'll never know. My disability means I'm not really able to run all that fast but on that day I ran as fast as I could and got myself the heck outta there. I also have asthma, more severe at that time (middle school, early 2000s since I graduated High School in 2007) so by the time I'd escaped him I was having an asthma attack. Not a fun day. My mom had significant words with that teacher and I was never sat next to Tourettes kid again. He was also required to wear a disposable medical mask every day at all times from then on out, and they limited what he could have access to. Previously to the chasing incident he'd gotten scissors while sitting behind me and chopped off a piece of my hair (which at the time was half way down my back). It took him chasing me around a classroom and me locking myself in a bathroom to get away for them to finally go "ya know, he definitely shouldn't have access to those anymore"

For the longest time if I thought about it ever all i used to feel is sadness for the little girl I was who was assigned to sit w two older boys on the bus in 2nd grade who treated me like dirt beneath them. I was pretty shy, and quiet ( and neglected and ignored at home so I didn't think anyone would care i guess) so I never told the bus driver but I'll never forget the day one of the boys took his backpack and slammed the bottom down on my hands in my lap. It brought tears to my eyes then. They were awful...but I'm pretty sure the bus driver, a meanie herself, put me w them bc I was quiet and well behaved.

I remember my 3rd grade teacher even talking about and seating me and other girls by the misbehaving boy in class in hopes to get him to behave...

Also in elementary school lunch, if some kids misbehaved at the class table or were too loud everyone was punished and the punishment turned out to be having everyone sit " boy, girl" as assigned by the lunch monitor. More opportunity for these boys to harass me and pick on me bc they were mad they had to sit by me.

Girls are adultified while boys are coddled to oblivion. I do have to say that part of the issue is that while boys in the past were raised by men (more male teachers, and they worked at home at the farm w their dad) now they are raised by women (women are more likely to be teachers now and since the Industrial Revolution, men haven’t been present at home) who are less likely to be harsh with them. The result is that boys are coddled and enabled to an insane degree. I think gender-segregated schools with teachers of the same gender as students would be better

I feel this. In 3rd grade I had a boy who used to lick, kiss, and bite my arm everyday and my senile teacher did nothing. If I complained or told him to stop, I was the one who got into trouble. In 7th I had a boy who would grab my boobs and try to shove his hands between my legs and when I tried to ask the teacher for help, she told me I liked the attention and refused to move my seat or punish him at all. My daughter was bullies at her school from several boys. I took it past her teacher (useless) and “year group coordinator” (useless) to the principal and cc in the school board outlining the events with photo evidence when available but otherwise just what was alleged to have been said to my daughter, every step we’ve taken, what’s been done by each party, where we are at now. The school principal booked an appointment and went over their anti bullying procedures and told me she can’t disclose what’s going on with the bullies due to privacy but assured me that things are happening. Things didn’t happen, except that her teacher “retired” 2 weeks after my letter. I didn’t hear from the school board.

I pulled her out of that school and now I’m paying for a fucking catholic education at $75 per week because at least she doesn’t get bullied at this private school.

We aren’t catholic or religious at all but we have to pretend just to stay in there so my daughter is protected from bullying boys from bad homes.

Back when I taught Bible class at my church there was a boy who would constantly and aggressively police a girl’s behavior (they were late elementary school age). He would comment on how she completed her assignments, he was very nit picky. I picked up on it and stopped it in the same day! She sat behind him and I told him he wasn’t allowed to look behind towards her or talk to her. Pickme behavior damages girls and warps boys, and it truly sickens me when teachers allow that behavior to carry on in their classrooms. There have been moments in my life where I genuinely felt that pickme teachers, like romantic pickmes, hated women and girls for being “competition”. They allow boys to do whatever they like because they want favor with boys which is so creepy, and they don’t care if girls are hurt because they see girls and all women as their competitors and enemies.

I'm a specialist teacher and I have seen a LVM teacher doing this and encouraging me to do it too in his class. Placing the most unruly boy of the class near a girl because "he likes her and he stays behaved".

I don't do it of course. I've made a statement that I don't support this tactic inside the class. A 7 year old girl has no job of keeping a boy her age in line.

The girl was totally thankful towards me, but unfortunately my intervention will not stop teachers from doing this in the future.

I can’t even read the whole thing, this brings back so many traumatic memories.

When I was bullied in primary school by a boy (whom I was twice the size of because I was very tall and this, amongst other things, was the reason for my bullying, along the fact that I am from a minority in this country (not POC but an ethnic minority) and the fact that I was growing up faster than other kids), my parents were told that if I’m being bullied I’m the problem and that I should change schools to not aggravate that boy any longer. We were 8 at the time. My parents took the appropriate steps but no one listened.

When he brought a huge kitchen knife to school, put it to my neck and threatened to murder me if I came back to school next academic year, everybody was shocked because it was just some normal taunting according to the school. We were 11 at the time.

My parents dragged me to the police station, it was reported and him and his parents actually got into trouble, with a social worker being assigned to their family to monitor them (this was outside of the US and any other English-speaking country). This was something that stayed on his record though, as juvenile files aren’t sealed over there.

You know what a “funny” thing is? My parents were being called hysterical and overreacting in the town. With time, those comments died down. That is, until I was barely 16 and that boy ended up beating another bloke to death, and actually got time in prison due to having a record already. Then, those comments changed to “you did such a good thing reporting his behaviour way back when”.

The way I was traumatised by this is beyond explanation. Society is vile for putting the responsibility for boys’ behaviour on girls.

I was quiet, well-behaved and studious in school, so the teacher often made the class clown sit next to me at the back of the class so I could “encourage them to behave” (nah sis - he can take responsibility for his own behaviour). I’ve always been assertive and stood up for myself even from a young age so I always called them out on their behaviour, to which the teacher would tell me off for being “disruptive” 🙄

It’s double standards and a result of deep social conditioning that girls should be quiet and well behaved while boys have free reign to do whatever they want. If they were held accountable and disciplined in the same way girls are, they would grow up to be more well-adjusted adults. Porn and video games ruin young men. If you sat in my classroom you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between full blown drug addicts and these boys. Its that sad. Without even telling you which ones, you'd be able to pick them out. As a now-retired teacher, this horrifies me. I never allowed it. Everyone (middle and high school, worse in middle school) was told explicitly they were responsible for their own behavior. In fact, when I had an extremely sensitive girl, and a boy who liked to roast, and they would not keep away from each other, I quite often used to tell the boy that if, one day, x girl rose up in her strength and put the beat-down on him, because his mouth wrote a check that his butt could not cash... not only would I not break up the fight, I'd at most call home and say she was "disrupting class", and write him up to the dean for instigating, provoking, disrupting class time, anything else I could think of to make him look really, really bad -- and none of it would be a lie. And I'd reassure the girl that yes, she would have to go to the office, but 1) it's on record with the dean that x boy is an instigator; 2) when they find out you were pushed beyond your limits, they'll go easy on you, maybe a day or two of detention.

I already had sensory issues that made concentration a challenge but then I was punished with that shit because that idiot was more of a priority than my education and comfort.

Saying that, I hated the teacher. He was always asking me to stay back after school, I don't recall anything malicious but he was just a dick who flirted with the student support teacher.

This was my experience as well, all the way from kindergarten to high school! Thankfully, the schools I attended were very small, so I never had any truly awful/dangerous kids to put up with. As a kid I remember secretly bemoaning the fact that I never got paired with any 'good' partners (be it for projects or seatmates), meaning I was always placed with the kids who were struggling academically or behavior-wise. I had a really tough time socially, and I really think being consistently put in these positions of responsibility for someone else's learning impacted how my social skills developed. I actually enjoyed playing the teacher and helping the kids who didn't understand what we were doing, (although in hindsight, those kids probably had learning disorders or needed an ea in terms of help, because the routine was finish the lesson, then I turn and redo the lesson slower, question by question for my seat mate until we finish the worksheet.) But because I was always around kids with behavior problems who I just tried to not engage, and kids who were struggling and not that confident/not that happy in the classroom, I didn't make a lot of friendships. It may have been me, because I had an IEP for giftedness, but under the weaknesses column it had 'social relationships with peers' or something like that. But I really think I could have done better socially if I had a little more time to just be a kid, and not be put into these weird semi-teacher positions.

By the time I got to high school, I had perfected my version of the dumb fox strategy: the sweet lamb. It really helped that I developed late, because my strategy was to act so sweet I just didn't understand when someone tried to make a comment to irritate me. I never swore, and butter wouldn't melt in my mouth. Someone tries to make a sexual comment? I act like I haven't gone through puberty and am not into boys yet, and have no idea what they were talking about. If you just act so aggressively and predictably sweet, happy, and innocent, eventually you become a background character, rather than someone active and a good target for bullying or harassment. You are just too dumb and naive to bully. You are also always happy to help someone, and always follow the rules. It also helps that with such a small school, and me positioning myself as socially dumb and adorable, if someone had it in their mind to do something really awful to me, the social consequences would be akin to kicking a puppy. I was friendly with just about everyone, and close with a few other girls. But I wasn't invited to parties and things, and I really kept people at a distance.

Now I've started to develop back into my own personality, the one I had before I developed this strategy, and it's been really fulfilling. It makes me a little sad, because I think I would have been a really cool adolescent, and I wish I could have seen my real self develop and grow up rather than the character I put up to deal with the shitheads I was surrounded with. And by shitheads, I mean boys.

K-5 i was bullied relentlessly by this boy and his pick me friends, he would hit, kick, push me down or trip me, gaslight me to think I deserved it.The teachers said "he just must really like you" so completely minimized the abuse I endured everyday. And gaslit me to believe he "had a crush on me" and never punished him for anything, i was the only girl he would torment but he also did it to a few other boys. This is a case where 2 things can be true at once. There is significant evidence that females mature faster than males and it is not entirely due to social conditioning because we can observe it with physical maturity as well as emotional and mental.

However it is also wrongly used as an excuse to allow males to behave absolutely HORRIBLY. There is a difference between “immaturity” and acting like a spoiled brat. These teachers should be reprimanded and eventually fired if they continue to jeopardize the education and even the literal safety of young girls.

I work at a school (not as a teacher) and I see that this practice is still sometimes implemented. If your daughter is being harmed in any way, or made to be responsible for a male student’s behavior in any way, I’d encourage you to make a fuss with the teacher and principal. Demand a meeting with the administrator and the teacher, lay out your concerns, and demand change. Keep records.

The dirty truth is that school districts will do a lot for parents who are pushy because they don’t want to be sued. Make a ruckus. Throw a fit. Take pictures if your daughter is being physically harmed and don’t be afraid to get law enforcement involved.

All you have to do is imply that you’re talking to an attorney and you will probably see the problem suddenly go away. Make threats and network with other parents. Crash PTA meetings. Be the guerrilla warrior mom that every little girl deserves.

I don’t like to invoke the “Karen” archetype, because too often the “joke” is about mocking women and not about pointing out privilege and racism. But in this instance, go full Karen.

It makes it even worse when parents tell their kids that it’s okay to hit girls and if the girls dare to defend themselves, they get in trouble because it’s unladylike and girls aren’t supposed to be violent and fight.

Women mature faster also as the reason why women are to be paired with 10 years older men, cause they had already let the steam off and are now serious and domesticated and ofc women want that, cause they hate fun and are very mature from age 5.

And basically to push any woman into a relationship with a person with no social life or sense of humor, because "you'd be happy, he's very mature".

And to beat women who have any fun in this world with a stick.

Title	We need to start talking about pick me teachers who use girls to keep the bad boys in class behaved. Because I definitely experienced this and it was terrible.
