Hmmm...Could it be that we've forgotten boys in our school system? That we're teaching to girls and ignoring the boys? Or possibly closet feminists that write articles like this found a tangent to passively slam men once again.

The shooting(s) have everything to do with mental illness and in this last case extreme loss (loss of parent). Creating sexist arguments for why people are extremely dysfunctional can be applied to women just as easily.

How about we look at these psychopath's mothers? Mass shootings indicate there is a problem with America's absentee mothers...

It really bothers me that tragedies like this are used to criticize masculinity; that the issue is masculinity is associated with violent behavior and therefore must be suppressed. I genuinely believe that is the SUPPRESSION of traditional masculinity in our culture that is causing these violent outbursts. Young boys aren’t allowed to express their masculine selves and find they have no role in society anymore. They finally erupt. The view that masculinity is the problem will only exacerbate the situation.

Well every time this happens a number of his victims use their fucking bodies to protect other people even though it literally means their deaths. Let's just double down on calling them privileged, despite every meaningful statistic indicating the opposite, surely that will sort all of this out. I mean, if we all just double down hard enough, White males will eventually just realize how everything is their fault and FINALLY check their privilege enough that toxic masculinity will no longer be such an issue and we can all return our focus to what really matters: getting women into STEM.

It could just as likely be something wrong with how mothers are raising their sons, or the style of education not being compatible with the style of boy's learning. Or, more likely, a combination between the school system, society and mental health.

There were no school shootings when America was actually "strong" and "masculine", it was certainly not a trend to say the least. Only since feminism and the 'war on boys' has this occurred with regularity. Acting like a man is essentially criminalized in this country and in the west abroad, unless you're a 'minority' in that case unrepentant and often offensive masculinity is encouraged.

Is it not fair to say that traditionalism affords men few non-violent outlets for emotion? I would certainly agree with that, and I expect that's what Michael Ian Black would be trying to say.

The headline writer is the one who contorted it into "boys are a problem."

Blaming things doesn't fix them. I feel like we exist in an era of blame but no solutions. I don't know if it's laziness or if this is typical of every generation, but I feel like we've hit this roadblock and don't care to examine or solve these problems.

It's like, okay, you think you identified the source of the problem. What are you going to do to fix it? Is your solution viable or will it create more problems? I don't think making young men feel bad about being young men is a good solution because we didn't have these problems BEFORE we started making men out to all be evil.

So many people are saying that guns are the problem, but they aren't looking at why a kid picks up a gun in the first place. American society doesn't give children an outlet for their aggression and negative emotions. Classmates bullying you? Better not fight back or else your gonna get the same punishment. You want someone to talk to? Go do your homework you whiny little shit. You want someone to love you? Sorry but daddy left when you were a baby and mommy is busy popping pills. These children are bottling up their feelings until they get to the point where they have an absolute mental fucking breakdown. Our education system also puts way more stress on children than countries like Finland (who have way better scores than we do). All of this can cause a child that may have anger issues or undocumented mental illnesses to snap. If you take away all the guns, I guarantee that you'll see news headlines about mass murders with kitchen knives or baseball bats.

Call me crazy if you want guys, but I think men and boys need to get in more fights. Fights help to resolve conflicts among men. It builds character and those who engage in a fair fight (win/or lose) will often gain mutual respect for each other. That’s just how we’re wired and there’s nothing wrong with it. I think pent up natural aggression without a proper outlet is largely to blame. It takes a normal male behavior and drives it to become deformed and disproportionate.

Also I’m not talking about bigger guys pummeling smaller ones. I mean well matched, honorable fights.

I haven’t read the article but I fundamentally agree with this. Mental illness affects men and boys at such a high rate and masculinity often tells you you should be able to tough it out, and all of the progress in women’s rights has men left behind in some situations.

Hopefully the article isn’t blaming this entirely on men, though.
