[–]seraphinelysionFDS Apprentice17 points18 points19 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Usually because nobody else wanted them and they married the first person who did. Then they get an ego boost and/or hit an early midlife crisis and cry foul over missing out on their youth because they forgot about how nobody wanted them.

Exactly! What was he doing before that? If he missed out on things that’s his fault, OP has only been in the picture for a short percentage of his life. If he seriously thinks that hooking up with women is essential to traveling around the world, he can do that as a single divorcee.

[–]oshafora72 points73 points74 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
My ex did this. He broke up with me to go traveling because he wanted to be free to sleep with women during his travels. He didn't get laid once and he ran out of money after two months. Pretty embarrassing how he was too dumb to manage his money. Traveling is so cheap when you're not a dumbass. Of course he came back crawling because he realized no one else wanted to sleep with him. Obviously that ship had sailed.

He's the type of guy who wants everything without any sacrifices. He wants the intimacy of marriage but doesn't want to make sacrifices (ie being fucking monogamous? Right?! And seriously, sleeping with lots of other people is really not that interesting or exciting after a certain time/ age. Like, who cares? And most times it’s better when you’re with one person consistently anyway as you get more of a groove and get to know what each other likes and doesn’t like. It’s all about his ego here.

I have posted many times about myself dating a guy who wanted to travel the world for like, 10+ years. He wanted to be a single bachelor and probably screw with foreign women until he was 40, then return to his country to settle down, looking for a woman 10 years younger than him to have kids with him. He will be ugly, fat and broke by then. I knew the moment he said this, there was no future with him and that he was a completely immature idiot. Since then, I’ve been really weary of men who say they wanna “travel the world.” End it with him, sis.

I know a NVM deadbeat dad with 5 kids and military experience. 30+ years old, but won't say the exact number. Balding, sleeping around, still getting his first degree.
Guess what his plans are for after graduation? Traveling the world. Yes, be very wary of men who want to do this. I would love to take vacations to a few carefully-selected locations throughout a period of years with my committed husband. This is not the same as escaping my home country on a permanent basis to go wilding in some foreign dream lands with underprivileged women I can take advantage of. Not the same at all.
[–]crapcakes0987FDS Newbie58 points59 points60 points 5 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link
Wow, that's crazy. He wants to travel the world even though he has 5 kids? he obviously is not taking any responsibility for them. What a deadbeat. I totally agree with you, I'd like to go on a vacation once a year or something with my husband and enjoy that way. I'd want stability. I don't blame the guy I was dating in a way for not wanting to join the 9-5 daily grind, but his idea was too extreme. He wanted to jump from one research job to another each year (was a Chem PhD student) and "do research on my own terms." those are his words. He's gonna be piss poor and will return to his country, old and balding. No young woman will want to settle down with him.
[–]kwalden2FDS Newbie33 points34 points35 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Wow, that's crazy.
Yes, it is totally crazy.
He wants to travel the world even though he has 5 kids? he obviously is not taking any responsibility for them.
That's exactly why I was calling him a deadbeat. That and the fact that it took me a YEAR of 'work friendship' to even find out the number of kids he has. I still don't know ages, genders, names, or pictures. He's been doing only under-the-table work. We all know this adds up to deadbeat all the way.
He's gonna be piss poor and will return to his country, old and balding. No young woman will want to settle down with him.
I mean, I pity ANY fool that entertains such a man after all that. Men really have all the audacity. Even the good ones sometimes, but WOW it's so bad with the LVMs or NVMs.

He told me when we met he just wanted to move to the US for one or two years to experience it. Then a few months later, it turned into “I wanna live in the US, Canada, Japan, Australia, Singapore...” etc. Good luck getting visas to stay in those countries, sweetie. Those are some of the hardest countries to move to. Especially if he jumps around from job to job each year. Nobody will hire him, lol. He only wants to work for specific companies as well. As someone who has traveled internationally a lot, the sad thing is that many white American men can and do find foreign women to marry and be their stay at home wives- often ones who are way above the standard they would be able to get in the US. This situation sadly gives these women in most cases far better opportunities than they ever would have if they stayed in their own countries. They at least have the opportunity to get eventual US citizenship and live in a developed country. That said, these situations inherently create a bad power dynamic where decisions will all likely be made by the man and if things go bad in the relationship the woman will likely have little recourse to leave and be stuck somewhere with no support network. It’s certainly worth being suspicious of men who want to travel or work with the sole purpose of messing around with foreign women because they are likely looking for someone easy to control, or they just want somethig short term with no responsibilities where they can just leave when they get bored.

All men want is to remain in their privilege bliss so they can make as little effort as possible for the most gain. They have to maintain any destruction of our agency OR ELSE.
And according to many men on reddit, the OR ELSE is us spending our riches on ourselves, not tolerating bullshit, and aging without a desperation to have a man.
They are telling on themselves when they complain about “men’s” issues because it proves how easy they’ve got it.

WHY? Your husband just told you he wants to cheat on you for 6 years with multiple strangers across multiple countries - what is there to understand?
Women are so conditioned to appear unemotional that she has to say this for fear of appearing unreasonable. She's treating this like a small disagreement because she can't accept her husband doesn't care about her. I wouldn't be surprised if she thinks if she can just figure out what the "real" issue is they can fix this 🤮💔

Fuck everything about this. He crossed the boundary between "fun loving young traveller" and "filthy old sex tourist" at least five years ago. Who wants to bet he looks like shit and is socially awkward as all hell too (hence the friend described as "very outgoing")?
What was he doing for the first 32.5 years of his life? My guess is either wanking under a rock or buying into the lie that he could sell his youth and then just sail into the ownership of a wife appliance a decade or two younger than him. Reality caught up with him, he had to settle for someone near him in age, and now either he's into his premature midlife crisis or he's revealing his true, shitty self. Hopefully there's a divorce and another harsh reality check in his immediate future.
IF he ever actually travels, he's in for a sore disappointment. Tourist bars/clubs will be jam packed with men like him, local and foreign. He'll be far from the only foreign scrote on OLD trying to convince the locals that he's moving to the country or already lives there. He might get "dates" with more opportunistic locals, and they'll fleece him for all they can get.
Him and the "very outgoing" single friend will end up paying for sex, and when he gets home he'll be just another sad middle aged man who flung away the security of a marriage for fuck all.

Throw the whole man out, sis.
I get people are having extreme reactions to the pandemic but... nope. He gotta go.

Why is it when they say they feel like they “missed out” it’s always about sex?
[–]wrice05FDS Newbie16 points17 points18 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Exactly. What they've actually missed out on is developing a personality, ethics, an inner life, and the ability to see and empathize with other people. What trash.
[–]iamwildflowersFDS Newbie49 points50 points51 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Never has the word "audacity" been so appropriate. This man needs to be slapped into the next dimension and forever orbit in outerspace. 😒🙋🏻♀️📦

Jesus Christ what a piece of trash
[–]PornruinedsocietyFDS Apprentice22 points23 points24 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Why do they say Christmas is materialistic, I'm not buying presents because it's bad for the environment but then want the latest iPhone, car and travel the world which are all bad for the environment? 'He wants to be completely free'...is there such a thing as being completely free? And everything we chose to do has consequences.
Personally if I was her I'd let him go, I'd just say okay you do what you want to do with no reaction and a blank expression. But I wouldn't be there when he got back.

I was thinking about it the other day. After the vaccine, almost everyone who stayed isolated (and single) will feel the urge to "make up for the lost time" and hook up/sleep around. I think most people won't even consider commited relationships for a while.
[–]Betty_BottleFDS Newbie26 points27 points28 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
She needs to gift him with divorce papers before he leaves. Or just mention that she may sleep with other men as she doesn't want to miss out on the "my husband is out of town" experience.
Assuming this friend is male, what are the chances that the husband actually wants to sleep with HIM?!
[–]mommyicant12 points13 points14 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
He’s already cheating. Maybe just emotionally but he’s got feelings for someone else this whole trip is a ruse- he’s just trying to gauge her reaction. Stick his toe in the water. Best part of this- that person - is whoever was there and the only sexual tension is that created by covid and his current marital situation. When those disappear he may likely find himself alone. So he’s stepping out of one right into another that may or may not be what he expected. She on the other hand has freedom to start doing what ever she wants to do - immediately. She just got the golden ticket to do her thing and keep her options open. I’d be like “best idea ever, why wait, let’s start now.” Also, the “outgoing friend” is just super lonely, manipulative and sad if he needs to bring a friend along on his p-world tour. Sounds like two dudes c-blocking each other from place to place while they unsuccessfully try to hit on chicks then end up losing too much money at a strip club or massage parlor and feeling like losers. Most women in relationships are running in combat boots in the sand. Take off those boots and they’re Jackie Joyner-Kersee. Men like this, set them down and they can barely lift their head to see you kicking dust in their face as you sprint off to bigger and better things.

[–]thinktwiceorelseFDS Newbie11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't think he would really go. He has probably got a big mouth, like my ex. He would always say stuff like that, because he wanted me to feel uncertain? Well, I can only guess why he did it, but it was just plain words. He never did anything. She should drop him like a hot potato. These are the worst of the worst types. I don't know what is worse, the gamer type living in his mom's basement and sleeping in a nest, or these "adventurous" types who keeps talking about leaving one day. I wish she would divorce this person immediately.

She needs to consult an attorney and file for divorce asap. Seek maximum damages and alimony. He can go and travel on a reduced, post-divorce budget, but never on her time or dime.

[–]SpiralDancingCoyoteThrowaway Account1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes, you let him go because you can't honestly stop him. He's legally and physically (although maybe not mentally, clearly) an adult who makes his own decisions.
What you don't let him do is come back into your life in any capacity.
Lmao! Why is she even asking this?! He is TELLING HER he is going to cheat! Why would you try to be understanding of that?
