Did no one notice that this said "men who cheat (using this website) are most likely to work in the trades" and not "men who work in the trades are most likely to cheat"? It says nothing about which careers are more likely to cheat because it's not normalized for the number of men, cheating and not-cheating, in each career. Without that information, it's literally just a list of common careers.

OP is misinterpreting the data here a little bit: this survey was done on people who were already members of Ashley Madison, so this doesn't necessarily show who cheats more, it shows what the Professions tend to be of men who use Ashley Madison to cheat.

I would theorize that both of those groups (men in trades and men in IT) use Ashley Madison a lot because they work in fields where there are very few women. And guess what? Most affairs actually start in the workplace (will be interesting to see what happens now that working from home is starting to become more normal). I'll see if I can dig up the data, but they estimate that something like 85% of affairs happen in the workplace. It makes sense to some degree, since these are the people you spend the most amount of time with besides your SO.

So they use Ashley Madison in order to have an affair, because they are around less women on a daily basis and thus have less opportunity to have an affair the old-fashioned way.

Blue collar guys always have always had a heightened machismo, some from the extra testosterone of doing physical labor and some I suspect of insecurity if they are on the low paying side of trade jobs.

I am not surprised that blue collar men cheat more than other segments of the population.

Blue collar men tend to be more "alpha". Rougher around the edges. "Man's men." Low inhibition. Plain spoken, blunt. Less likely to take shit from others or put up with work or other bullshit. More sexually experienced. Have had sex with experienced women. Have probably had more premarital sex.

I suppose it's possible that all this is because those men are higher T men and are more aggressive. It's not that they feel they should have more than one woman. It's probalby not something they really think through. It's more like "I have options, I can do this, this woman wants to fuck me, I can tell she does, so we're fucking" or "I am attracted to her so I'll run some game on her and see what happens because, why not?" These guys are low inhibition man's men who take no shit and do what they want.

Kevin Samuels probably tells average to below average women to avoid HVM mostly because those HVM won't have them. But also, because average women should be with and are best suited to average men. It's less about the fact that HVMs cheat as it is just that average women aren't suited to HVM despite the fact that they really want those men.

Because we are out in the field actually meeting and greeting a very wide variety of women all the time so our social skills aren't stunted. We are more active in the real world and our haunting grounds are huge compared to Online Daters who can't seem to get off their phones and whose only frame of reference for the real world is whatever dumb shit they see online rather than the actual REAL world.

I think the reason blue collar guys "cheat" more is just because they meet way more women overall than those who live sheltered and autistic lives on their phones or on the computer.

My opinion is that men in male Dominated fields are at higher risk of cheating because men usually egg each other on to do stupid shit and “dont be a SiMp”. If you’ve worked in male dominated fields they can rag on men who refuse to cheat on their gf/spouse. Go to strip clubs together etc. (Machismo is a better word for this I suppose)

Also blue collar is seen as lower status. Men with low self esteem seem to cheat more because they are out to prove something to others or themselves.

I imagine that it could be that those people go to many different homes, so they have more opportunities as they interact with many different people. A bit of stereotyping, but women might be the ones who call a blue collar worker (plumber, electritian, carpenter, ect) to do repair work the most. They might feel very gratefull for them doing the repairs that she might offer as a bonus or maybe even to get a discount. Same might go for an IT guy when he repairs stuff that is very important for her.

Being a handyman is an attractive trait (at least for me).

It's simple. Blue collars have more free time. White collars (like me) don't have time to date if their profession is just starting.

I know residents at my hospital rarely have time for anything besides studying, and even after residency they work relentlessly to pay off loans.

I think it’s because blue collar workers are more likely to put off masculine vibes and not really give a fuck if they lose an average woman. Mr investment banker or engineer doesn’t really use his hands for much, he doesn’t take tons of risks, he’s around rich softies all day. The construction worker/welder is a brawny guy with calluses, likes to work out during his free time, and probably has a lot more times during his free time where he’s in contact with middle class workers (who are more mixed male/female.

Anecdotally, I know tons of chicks that like working men better than office job nerds… but that’s why AF/BB is a thing. She can always take risks with these types of dudes because she can get her financial needs met with a “softer” rich dude when blue collar macho man/men decides he/they are done with her.

I think it's important to realize this study will have a heaping helping of Bias.

Ashley Madison is an online cheating site, and so will be full of people looking to discreetly cheat but choose to do so online instead of real life.

The top male and female professions both involve long hours, and hours in mostly same gendered spaces. Trades and IT are overwhelmingly male and often require long hours, Nursing and Teaching are overwhelmingly female and do as well.

So it may be people in more mixed professions have more opportunity to cheat via those they meet professionally, and will therefore cheat in a way that leaves less of a trail than opening an online dating profile.

Well if you work in the office and you work there for 10 years you probably are going to be cheating with one person long-term but because your wife is going to possibly meet that person it might be an extra incentive not the cheat because you don't want these two people interacting with each other versus if you were going to trade profession where you might be working in that trade for 10 years but you're seeing a bunch of different people over the course of a couple of months the temptation to cheat with a person that you meet who your wife will never have to meet because they're not a fellow employee they're a potential customer or even someone that works at a facility that you have to go to for tools might give you more opportunity.

Just a guess.

Contrary to what most people think, men who cheat are more likely (either solely or at least partly as opposed to not at all... IIRC, the split was 48, 32, and 20%, respectively) to do so because of a lack of emotional fulfillment in their current relationship rather than pure hormonally-driven urge to just stick it in another hole--- and that absence of emotional fulfillment comes from their wives treating them like a disposable utility rather than a human being.

Men in trades are in the "sour spot" where they make a good enough living that women will get with them for their utility, but then disrespect them because the work they do isn't "high-status" white-collar work.

Similar situation with IT workers... they make fairly good money so women use them for utility, but then show them disrespect because they don't have "upper management/executive" status, and, as has been stated in this thread by others, they're stereotypically more socially awkward, and also possibly lack attractive physical genetics-- even if they put their time in at the gym, they're more likely to be working off a lighter frame to begin with.
