When I booted my ex out he tried to take my mattress even though I had already traded him heaps of other stuff out of pity because the place he was moving to already had a bed so he wasn't going to need it. A few days later he tried to take it because it was "his". Men are so fucking depraved they'd happily make it so you have no place to sleep than put themselves out in any way.

strong reminder! I too always had my own place and they were the ones coming over w/ their measly stuff.
but I will never forget the day I accompanied my friend to retrieve stuff from her ex. apart from her clothes (that she bought), there were tons of items that they bought together. scrote did not want to share anything, he even insisted he wanted the bedsheets.

applause for this! they only miss the comfort they had, not the person. when they are left, their true personality comes out. his is a barren room with a camping chair and bug-infested mattress.

When my mom left my step-dad, she took half the mattress. 😂
[–]MeredeenFDS Newbie 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

don't know about other places but here it's pretty common to use two single matresses on a double bed.

I want to say she took the mattress (probably a nice one that she paid for because she didn't want to sleep on a rock) and he was too cheap to buy another queen. Lmfao.

Do you know why this mans place looks like this after she left? I bet you do.
Sho bought everything that made a collection of rooms a home. Men do not care so they don’t buy things for a home. They just enjoy “a woman’s touch” aka a woman buying something for the home every week to make it a comfortable living space.
I know this from experience. Towels, sheets, pots, pans, microwave, vacuum, couch, book shelves, accent chairs, art, fir blankets, area rugs, silverware, mirrors, dressers, bed frame, oven mitts, tea pot, knife block, patio furniture, etc..............
A woman’s touch in a house is her paying for and furnishing a comfortable life. That’s why these divorced dudes “start” w nothing. They bought nothing because they didn’t care.

There's a reason so many of our exes moved out with garbage bags of clothes and their precious gaming systems.
[–]beatlefreak_1981FDS Newbie 146 points147 points148 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
That's all my ex left with and he didn't even have a gaming system, just trash bags of clothes. Tried to take my duffel bag and I was like, no dude that's mine. Why don't you take your big hunting duffel bag? Oh yeah, that's right, you don't want to because you left it outside to get filthy.

My ex is ranting all over Facebook about how his ‘house feels like a home again’ and I can’t wait to go in Tuesday and just pack up everything I bought. All he’s got is a couch and a bed. Asked to buy one of the TVs off me and I said absolutely not. I’ll be taking the toilet paper, laundry soap, and household cleaners I purchased - not that he even ever knew how to use any of those items properly.

This is so true. I moved recently, and I alone have so much crap, because I bought things for not only my space, but also the kitchen, bathroom, living room, etc. Just a few of my things are decorations, but everything together makes my place lived in.
These scrotes with their "bed+TV+game console+shitty chair" are a disgrace to themselves.
[–]lolmemberberriesFDS Newbie 66 points67 points68 points 5 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
Yep. When my ex and I broke up and moved into our separate residences, he never fully unpacked! Meanwhile, my place was unpacked, cleaned and decorated the day I moved in.

With all your lovely things you bought over the years that made a home. Bet he never thought “hmm, wonder what the longest lasting fabric is suitable for bathroom rugs?” This is why they have nothing without a woman’s extreme labor that they call a touch.
[–]lolmemberberriesFDS Newbie 46 points47 points48 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
He was probably confused about some of his stuff still being in boxes a month after he moved. But yeah, he definitely took it for granted that I cooked healthy meals, knew how to sort laundry to maintain the integrity of clothing and knew how to arrange each room to make it both fun and cozy.

Here’s what pick me tried when it was come to Jesus.
I started my decent by throwing away all The dishes save 1 of everything. If someone wanted to eat, they had to wash the one fork and plate. I also stopped cooking and doing all laundry. I cleaned nothing.
Instead of stepping up as an adult human, The king decided to buy meal preps, live in towers of trash and throw away clothes then buy new when they were dirty. I’m not even joking.
He left with a $3k mattress, 70 inch tv and an entire room full of hoarded nothing.

Someone once told me about a guy friend (or coworker) they had. His gf picked out all the furniture (I think he paid for it) basic trendy minimalist stuff. After they broke up, she let him keep it all. He threw it out! To live like the OP pic until he got a new gf who picked out new furniture...
So even when they do pay for the stuff they don't care??

I heard from a male relative that their dream "home" is a mattress on the floor, a state of the art gaming/ tech system and a kitchen that only exists in case they ever feel like trying to cook (which never happens) but always revert to ordering big macs and fries.
a room empty enough so I can stack empty cans of beer and create a tower or a pyramid, he said.

100%. My ex has nothing because I paid for everything that made our apartment. I did leave a couple things like a cabinet, because he broke it in a fit of rage. And some things I just didn't want. But if it weren't for that, he wouldn't have a single thing
[–]naturopathicfantastiFDS Newbie 56 points57 points58 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Oh lord let us not forget the things of ours that we bought to make the shared space nice... that they smashed in an abusive rage fit! Mine are 3 lamps, a 6 foot custom made mirror of vintage driftwood and a 6 dresser chest of drawers. Plus holes in walls obv but I wasn’t gonna take those lol.
[–]takingbackitallFDS Newbie 36 points37 points38 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Oh my goodness. I'm sorry about your custom driftwood, that sounds like it would have been beautiful!
Off the top of my head mine are a brand new computer desk (not even 24hrs old, smashed with his head), my electric razor, lamp, a couple posters...and lots more I'm sure. Structural damage included holes in doors, walls, smashed light switch casing, closet doors punched off the tracks. If I had more time to think I'm sure this list would be a lot longer
Is it bad that it took 8 years and FDS to wake me up that this was domestic violence? 🤡
I always thought because he never hit ME that is wasn't that bad
Now that I'm out and finally healing, I'm realizing just how badly it affected me

"smashed with his head" killed me, wtf, did he literally head desk it to shit?? plus the posts by naturopathicfantasti. I'm sorry this happened to you but reading it really is gold.
I once moved in with some dick and stuff started breaking. I was gone when it happened but stuff was broken that had never been before. It dawned on me only later that he might have done it on purpose in a fit of rage. According to him it were accidents. Okay, I might believe the first shattered glass, but the second? And you accidentally pulled down the curtain PLUS the rails?? He also opened the windows in winter and turned on the heating while I was away. He said he forgot. I used to get money back from the gas provider, not this year, this year I had to pay more. He did not pay a single cent rent. When I asked him to move out after a couple of months because I could not take it anymore, he left his grimey sandwich toaster and a tasteless IKEA blanket plus ugly old bed sheets (the typical kind of childish and out of style bed sheets those guys always own). I threw it all away asap. I think the apartment he moved to had a hole in the door and I think I remember he told me he did it but maybe it was his dad, I honestly don't remember who it was, just the photo he sent me of it like it was a cool thing to be proud of, like a battle scar. Didn't book it as red flag back then but now I know what textbook scrote that was. But I blame myself. I knew before and gave it a try anyway and let him move in straight from mommy. I think we believe our case will be different until we learn: nope, it's not. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck.. And then there's a point where we're too old for this kind of crap.

Oh my goodness! How crazy he was just raging alone in your home. What a psycho. I’m so sorry that happened.
Fun fact on the sheet tip. I have discovered that Ellen Degeneres (she may be canceled now, not sure) has a line of the most amazing sheets I have ever owned for an ok price . On par with $200 sets. So thick, soft and never pill after a year of washing. Go on and treat yourself after that mess.
[–]keepcalmandFREAKOUTFDS Newbie 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Thanks for the tip. I have nice and fitting for an adult bedsheets since I'm 18 or so, I just noticed many men don't and many also don't care. They usually own 1 or 2 sets of old, outdated stuff with ugly patterns and old fashioned fabrics that don't fit together. Probably inherited from Grandma and childhood. Like orange brown flower patterns blanket with pink and light blue cars (the animated movie) pillows. Both greyish washed out. The best set of sheets I bought was a tad more than $100 (back then just single size), money well spent - amazing quality and fabric, looks as new as on the first day. I never slept in that ex's sheets, they were just making my apartment uglier.
[–]shockingupdateFDS Newbie 27 points28 points29 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
When I first met my last ex he was using a Costco-sized package of paper towels as a coffee table. By the end of it he had a like-new hand-me-down mattress, coffee table and kitchen setup, and all I had from him was a geriatric Xbox 360. I’ll never let another man tell me I don’t leave them better than I found em. 😂

This instantly reminded me of that song, "A Woman's Touch" from Calamity Jane.
There's a male interior design sub reddit which I find interesting to peruse. The majority of it is dudes who've made that leap from having flat mates to having their own place and looking for interior ideas from their peers. Fair dos! But on occasion you get the above - the newly separated or divorced ones who've either moved out or their partner has and have been left with next to nothing. The commenters on this were quick to describe the ex-wife as 'cold', 'petty', and 'oh boy, she must have loved you!'. I'm sure she made it a home at some point.
Also high end interior designers make £65,000+, just saying.

Kinda same to be honest, but its because I am prioritizing paying off my loans and then saving/investing before buying furntiure and decorations. I am making the most with what I have though. It sure as hell isn't a mattress on a wrong size frame and an outdoor chair LOL and like the other person said, it isn't something I am PROUD of like the guy who posted those pics. My futon sofa and twin sized bed are just how I have to live right now until my income picks up. At least my mattress isn't on the floor, and still has a nice cozy duvet with cover.

God, they are useless! Reminds me of Kirk van Houten - “I sleep in a racing car, do you?” Yet they try to argue that women are the ones who benefit from marriage!

Omg a fellow Simpson’s nut! “No I sleep in a big bed with my wife.” “......oh.”

I used to know a guy who slept in a race car bed
In his defense, he was 5'5 and lived with his parents 🤣🤣💀

Was he in 4th grade?
[–]AcademicMobile1FDS Newbie 10 points11 points12 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
A couple years older than me 😂
This scrote also used to purposely wear thick soled boots every time he saw me and would try to compare our heights, and accuse me of "cheating" for standing up straight as I am wont to do.
Why? Because I'm 2 inches taller than him and it's bothered him since high school.

He was married... and his wife took the mattress? He could only afford a half a mattress, or a futon? And he was married? What exactly was he bringing into this relationship? Like there's so much to unpack here (figuratively)
Don't get me started on the men can't decorate. They really can live in a literal jail cell and see nothing wrong with it lmafo

I think it's one of those split King/double twin beds. But you know the only reason he posted this was for pity and to have a bunch of Internet strangers insult his wife. Because he knows how little he was contributing to their relationship so he needs some feel good internet points.

When i left my cheating ex husband he got the bed which he cheated in, an ugly old chair and on purpose, a half dead plant. I still have the beautiful pots, pans, and mixer my parents gifted us with.

LMAO omg. I saw this post too. I was going to figure out how to put it here but didn't want to brigade.... The whole sub was ridiculously sad.
Edit : I thought maybe they had 2 mattresses for comfort reasons. And I just realized she took the mattress cause she bought it and he found a fucking futon to sleep on lmao

LMAO, and I bet she bought that frame too. (just left it because it'd be too much of a pain in the ass or didn't fit the truck and she wanted out ASAP)

Right? I realized there’s no box spring or a mattress. And yea. That frame is totally hers.

My ex and I lived with multiple housemates, who unfortunately had to deal with our breakup in real-time. By the time I finished packing up everything I bought for the house, three-quarters of the kitchenware was gone. Five people had to live with one set of silverware and like 25 pairs of disposable chopsticks 🥴

I had an older friend do this 😂 she showed me before and after pictures of the house she shared with her partner. The main furniture was his (large couch, dining table), but all of the decor, the TV, side chairs, bedding was hers. The house looked like a frat house in the “after” pictures!

They’re absolutely pathetic. I mean, live like an animal, feel and act like an animal. It’s simple psychology.
I cannot tell you how many hours I spend looking at beautiful pictures of interior design. It’s just so inviting and fills my heart with such warmth.
I wonder why men don’t feel the same. I guess it’s because they’re not actually ViSuAl CrEaTuReS lmao 🤣

Same sis. Even when I was a student I have never ever lived like that. My apartment is my sanctuary. Cheap furniture and decorations are available so many places. Ikea has a good selection which can be matched with pieces from other places. But they just don't put in any effort... now I have a more industrial feel going on with plants and some witchy stuff. I like burning sage and have beautiful stones and crystals I collect. I can't fathom men.
