For me, an average person is someone who I look at and don't think anything good or bad about how they look.

not too tall, but not too short? average

For me, the scale would be something like this: bottom 30 percent , then the average (30-to-70) and then the top 30%.But even if we consider the true meaning of what "above average" means (basically the top 50%) it's still way more than what the red pill says about only the top 20% having any kind of success.

I live in a rural town - nearest Walmart is 20 minutes up the highway. When I go into town, I see a lot of basic meat-and-potatoes couples. Both are a little overweight (not morbidly obese, just stocky, as are their kids). The men are balding, the women don't wear make up and tend to keep their hair back in simple braids. Both have farmer tans and crooked teeth.

Just normal folk. I've been to dinner at a few of their places and it's chaotic but fun; everyone's poor but the adults joke and banter and play with their kids. They barbeque and like fireworks. Really laid back and chill - these are the folks you won't see on social media, but there are billions like 'em all over the world.

This a hard one because you're basically asking to define what the average person looks like using only one example... but I'll try.

The man - a bit overweight, hair may be balding, dresses OK but nothing special, not a lot of facial definition in the cheeks, jaw and chin but by no means a disaster.

The woman - a bit overweight, hair is well kept but nothing that will be on a magazine cover, presents herself well style wise but there's not a huge amount body wise to highlight, again not a lot of facial definition in the etc etc but by no means a disaster.

Basically for both, nothing special but scrub up alright.

I have children in late teens and 20s.

In my daughters circle the all have bright coloured hair and piercings. Most are coupled up. They have a range of weight from normal to chubby. They are mainly studying computer stuff at college

My sons circle is very similar apart from there are less straight people.

My cousins both mid to late 20s, more classical style their groups tend to be very ranged from gym goers to over weight. Only a few men are over 6ft some have tattoos but not loads. Mens hair is starting to thin, the women are mainly bigger than they were 10 years ago, especially those who have had children.

These are all normal people to me

I’ve had a theory that women think most men in relationships are average looking because the above average guys who are walking around with girlfriends register as average looking to them, and that unattractive guys (who most men on here would think of as average) are single but to them they’re ugly.

You need to look at the attractiveness distribution. If you take a scale from 1-10 for attractiveness, then there are not 10% 10s, 10% 9s, 10% 8s in the population. It's more like 65% of people fall between 4 and 6, and 10s are below 2% of the population. A normal distribution of attractiveness. So most people are around average in attractiveness. That means, most couples MUST consist of about average people, because there simply are only a few % of attractive people, that cannot make up all the couples you see.

What is average depends on where you live. The average weight of men and women is 20 pounds less in Europe than in the US. It also depends on what age you are looking at. In the US, average BMI for 18-24 yo is 27.1 which is overweight. While in Europe, only half as many people in that age group are overweight, and the average BMI is in the mid range of normal weight ~23.

What you likely also experience is a perception bias from being a heterosexual woman. (right?)

Have you never seen average couples shopping at Walmart or Costco? They're usually overweight, not amazing to look at but not hideous, dressed like everyone else at Walmart or Costco, and sometimes with a couple of kids in tow.

When I think of the typically average couple I see: usually both are slightly overweight, if not outright obese. The man is balding but hasn’t gone for the full shave yet, has a pudgy, totally unremarkable face, and has basically no fashion sense — just slouchy jeans and t-shirts. The woman is basically his female equivalent — maybe she dresses a bit better but not much. Basically just unremarkable people overall.

well let’s see - i’ve had multiple occasions where i’ve seen a shorter guy with a girl, a balding man with a girl, a guy who’s overweight with someone - and the amount of times i’ve seen guys with poor fashion or grooming dating someone is quite common - usually most of these people are at the 4.5-7 range if you wanna go at it numerically

You could probably find this by simple population averages.

The average couple in the UK:

MAN: 85.4 kg (188.3 lb), 5ft 9in height man. Income: £35,260 (~$42.5k).
WOMAN: 72.1 kg (159.0 lb), 5ft 3in height. Income: £29,684 (~$35.8k).

Just keep going through these stats and keep going for the "Mr and Mrs Joe average".

I don't see them. From my early 20s friend group, only the 6"2 tallest guy has a highschool sweetheart relationship as well as another average guy who lucked out by spending an entire year partying and meeting a lot of people. He genuinely didn't do anything else, just partying every few days for an entire year.

In my country, most women I see on Instagram who are my age are single. I predict that most of them are holding it out for chad, because I know for certain that there's many single average guys in their social circle.It's simply bizarre how many women in my country are single in their early 20s because they refuse to date an average guy. Like when I check out IG profiles of American women of the same age, they're always in a relationship with some basic ass guy which is normal. But in my country this barely happens for some reason.

However, when I went to NYC, I didn't see any average guys in relationships either. I'm 5"11 which meant I was slightly taller than most but also average. Apparently I'm taller than 69% of men in the USA. The only time I saw guys walking with their gf, was when the guy was taller than me. I legit didn't see any caucasian guy who was my height or shorter walking with a girl unless they were age >26.

I mean. I see unattractive couples all the time, too. And occasionally I see wildly mismatched couples, because taste varies and looks aren't everything. There's also a lot of research showing that people tend to find people slightly more attractive than them the most attractive. I can certainly say that I find most '10s' kinda weird looking.

So of course my definition of 'average' is skewed to me thinking of myself as kinda average, but I see all levels of couples around all the time.

I see this, though less with young people. What I see much less of is the fabled mismatch couple. I sometimes see chad-lite guys with just average girls, I don't see gigachads with plain girls, and I never see hot girls with average guys.

We can't even be sure people we see are couples. I've had female friends who would grab my arm, if you saw us passing in public you could easily think we were a couple.

I've been single for years I could probably be in a relationship if I settled for a woman that either I'm not attracted to or a woman that's settling for me.My last GF wasn't attracted to me but she settled because I'm stable and supported her but as she got to point where she could support herself she left to pursue what she wanted and she told me she wasn't attracted to me.

I've had a few women that seemed to genuinely like me but I didn't like them..I go to restaurant where a waiter flirts with me but she's overweight has 2 kids and I would rate her a 4..mean while I'm 6'fit fairly wealthy and would rate myself a 6-7.

If 5 is average I guess we need to determine what average looks like I think it varies by communities in some communities overweight is probably average

All sorts. Overweight man/woman with thin woman/man. Short man/woman with tall woman/man. Not good-looking (to me) man/woman with good looking (to me) woman/man. Disabled man/woman with abled woman/man (there aren't common but exist out there)

If you think of color read and number 2, and go out into the world, you will see red and number two and even number 2 in red everywhere. Our state of mind dictates what we see.

There probably is a bell curved normal distribution on appearance, though the curve may vary by gender somewhat. Even so, what is 'average'? 30th percentile and 70th percentile people by physical appearance might both be considered 'average', but also look very differently.

my younger cousin and her boyfriend are an average couple. She’s pretty but doesn’t have an hourglass body shape, sort of squarish upper body and her boyfriend is not ugly, sort of unremarkable and probably 5’6” but he’s super easy to talk to. I’d say they’re average because the guys around my area tend to be shorter. Both are age 22. I actually do think she’s prettier than him objectively but they love each other very much so they’re perfect for each other.

Another cousin who has a gorgeous face is obese but her boyfriend is also obese and he has a cute face. around age 23.

Don’t really know many 18 year olds honestly.

Most of the couples I know are over 25 and they tend to be evenly matched (I’m 33).

I do know a few where the woman is chubbier than the dude and this tends to be more prominent with black couples. It’s not a huge deal because their fat goes to the right places.

I’ve noticed the Latinas tend to be more forgiving of height and the ones I work with are usually thinner and of a higher socio-economic class.

One of the biggest things I notice is that men evaluate other men's attractiveness entirely differently than women do. If you ask a man if another man is attractive he will immediately focus on build and say things like oh he looks like he works out, he goes to the gym he's muscular, and maybe height or hair. Women look at face and generally have a hard time agreeing on who is attractive. I mean if a guy is say a 10 most women agree but an 8 or below? They are all over the place. I think the issue is you are judging the man as more attractive than most women find him because of different criteria.

Going out into the real world and looking at what some actual couples look like is the quickest and easiest way to debunk all of the bizarre incel manosphere conspiracy theory nonsense about out of control hypergamy. You have to be a complete shut in social reject with very little contact with the real world who looks at extreme examples on the internet to believe that stuff. Go stand in the check out line at the grocery store and look at what the couples look like and try to tell me you need to be a Chad or in the top 1-20% of men to get a partner.

Thing is women rate men harshly.They find 80% men unattractive but we as guys don't think 80%of us are completely ugly .So a guy who looks to us like a 7 or 8 is a 5 or 6 for women so they beleive avg guys are getting dates in their young years.Datimg improves for most men in their later age but we don't know power dynamics of any particular relationship.Most relationships I have seen of guys who got gf later us that women wear pants in relationship

I honestly don't think it's true that unattractive men can't get with attractive women. It happens more frequently than you think.

One of my male friends (bless him) simply isn't very good looking. I imagine most people on this sub wouldn't rate him that highly. Maybe a 3/10 on a good day. Despite this, he has confidence and charisma to him that wins people over. Interestingly it's also this fact that has meant I've never been able to accept the RedPill stuff around looks being absolutely vital. Dating should be difficult for him, but it's not.

I know "just be confident bro" is an overused saying but I do genuinely think it works. After all, it worked for my friend.

Over here(Shibuya) and pretty much everywhere I've lived outside of the USA, the women were slim, pretty, with shiny, full hair, and the guys were not overweight, had a decent enough jawline, 6 feet or a bit under, a full head of thick hair, and had a body like soccer players usually do.

The wonders of a diet without sugar and cheeseburgers and taco bell huh.

Where I am the average young looking people are girls with too much make-up and false eyelashes, the guys are usually terribly dressed with borderline hygiene issues and everyone just wears sports clothes

I feel like the whole “looks” discussion when it comes to averages gets a bit off.

I would think “looks” on a 1-10 scale is an absolute and unchanging measure. So “5” isn’t really average it’s just the middle of the range of possible ratings.

Actual “average looks” would be relative to the absolute ratings of the group being discussed not the scale itself.

Unless of course it is believed that the scale is designed to reflect some reality where there are just as many absolutely “ugly” people as there are absolutely “beautiful” people and that everyone else is evenly distributed between.

I don’t think that’s how it actually is though.
