When looking at dating dynamics between men and women, I like to look at scenarios and see how men and women look at things. So, here is a scenario. Men and women can answer.

Shawn met a woman named Sarah at a bookstore. The two hit off well and began texting and talking a lot. Shawn was really into her and after 2 months of dating and interaction, he decides to become exclusive with her. One night, while talking on the couch with Sarah, Shawn tries to become intimate with her, but she refuses his advances. She says she is really into Shawn, but she is waiting until marriage to have sex. Disappointed, Shawn accepts it, but since he likes her a lot, he continues to date her.

4 months go by and they are still dating. They still have not been intimate with one another, but during the 4 months they have had moments when they almost went all the way (one kiss lead to almost having sex), but Sarah would shut down everything and say she wants to be married before sex. Shawn likes her a lot, so he accepts it and doesn't mind waiting until marriage.

One night, Sarah then decidedly opens up about her sex life with Shawn. He learns that before him, she had a couple boyfriends, some one night stands and 2 f-buddies. She also discloses that every time she got out of a serious relationship, she would call her f-buddy and they would have sex when she needed some sex. She also discloses that the last time she had sex was with her f-buddy 4 months prior to meeting Shawn. She also tells him she decided to wait until marriage, because she is now religious and wants to do things correctly and that she is no longer in contact with her f-buddy.

At the same time, Sarah says that she really likes Shawn and it's getting harder and harder for her to want to wait, but she wants to wait until marriage, because she wants to do things correctly.

Shawn is shocked by this, and he now has mixed feelings:

  1. He starts thinking that if she gets out of the relationship with him, she will just decide to hit up her old f-buddy for sex, because in past situations, after she got out of relationships, she would have sex with her f-buddy.

Looking through the lenses of pills, what should Shawn do in this situation:

  1. Disregard Sarah's claim of being celibate and keep escalating to sex (he thinks if she breaks up with him for whatever reason, she will just have sex with her f-buddy again, which would invalidate making him wait and the whole waiting until marriage thing).
  2. Break up with her because of her past. Looking at her past, it's a cycle of ONS, relationships and having that f-buddy when getting out relationships.
  3. Keep dating her and wait until marriage since he really does like her and sees thins going somewhere.
