It doesn't really matter if it's sexist if it brings more people to the bar. Women go for the cheap/free drinks, and men go in hopes of meeting drunk women. That benefits everyone. The alternative is going to a bar that's full of other men and what... buying drinks for women until one decides to chat with you? I'd rather the bar give them the drinks for free lol

I am a little surprised this is considered legal, the obvious analogy is if a bar gave cheaper drinks to white people than any other ethnic group, clearly would never be allowed. But I expect no one challenges it because it's to everyone's benefit.

Ya technically they are sexist. I get why many people like ladies night, it’s a way to boost supply for the demand, but I do agree it’s just not good as a principle.

Maybe the best middle ground is to not allow gendered discounts, and that bars should just find other ways to make the environment more women-friendly and inviting.

They should curate a different vibe and reputation if they want more women. Decor and menu can go a long way. Maybe also have stronger policies against customers who act too aggressively. Just some ideas.

I believe the "original" intent of ladies nights was to attract more women so that more men would also show up. While yes, it does give ladies the benefit of cheaper drinks or no cover charge, it's supposed to provide an environment with more women, something that conceivably men would benefit from.

So I don't know if it's actually sexist, or sexist towards whom. However it does seem a bit outdated given the current dating and social constructs and norms.

It's absolutely moronic to act like this has anything to do with having a "more balanced dating environment," the only thing that makes it unbalanced is male thirst ("sex is a need") and male "biological imperatives" (wife and kids and purpose).

I will say that the hills some men are willing to die on amongst their gnashing of teeth about their loneliness epidemic will never stop being hilarious to me. Paternity testing, child support, ladies nights, calling us expired after 25, "take her swimming," "drizzle drizzle"... it's certainly a bold strategy. Let's see how it plays out

I have heard the argument that ladies night can be breeding grounds for a more “hostile and assertive environment” (especially from entitled and resentful guys) But I always looked at it as “hey more ladies around to meet” and if there was a group at a table just chilling not wanting to be approached that was fine, if they were interested in did more would send signals.

The dating market isn’t unbalanced because of ladies nights ladies nights exist because of an imbalance in the market. The imbalance is biological eggs are more scare and thus more in demand than sperm.

Not sure if this is completely relevant, but I think there’s a parallel in why gay bars are financially sustainable but there are very few lesbian bars around. Women as the majority clientele do not drink/consume to the same extent men do, so financially speaking, a discount night can benefit through volume or through bringing men indirectly to offset the discount. Regarding if it’s sexist, I think the answer is yes to some degree, but tolerated to the extent all or most parties are getting enough out of it to not make a fuss. This is probably changing however.

Also there may be ways to incentivize women to attend to in turn incentivize men to attend. There’s this one club I absolutely hate but market pretty decently. They had like Barbie night, Nicki Minaj night, Y2K night. More likely to appeal to women but not exclusive towards a protected class or whatever. Maybe you get a discount for wearing pink or dressing y2k or something.

Ultimately, yes it is sexist, but if you get something for free, YOU are the product. If you play into it, and consent to it knowing that you’re the one being exploited, then that should be fine, but strictly speaking it is discrimination and there probably should be more clarity about the regulations on this.

Nah - they literally only exist because they get a lot more men in the bar. Idk if it’s pedestrianization because it isn’t about the women, it’s setting women up as bait, to put it crudely. (There is probably a nicer way to say it, but it still gets the point across).

As far as “do I have a problem with it?” - nah, couldn’t care less. I don’t frequent bars regardless and if I did, it’s less of a sausage fest so it frankly sounds like a benefit

Its a fringe case where the net result is positive like how all mathematical laws and rules have exceptions and fringe cases where they dont apply. Normally discrimination is bad but in this case, it benefits the average person

This case ought to be left to a ballot of the constituency and have the community decide at worst and should be permitted by reason of mutual benefit at best

If they weren’t profitable they wouldn’t exist.

If men didn’t flock to bars for the chance to meet inebriated women, bars wouldn’t shave their margins to bring in the women in the first place.

If women were interested in going to bars to meet those men, they wouldn’t need discounted drinks to incentivize them to do so.

Are they discriminatory? Are men paying more than they otherwise would for drinks? Nope. Are they getting more for the price of those drinks (I.e. a greater opportunity to meet women)? Maybe.

The fact is that if men didn’t want ladies nights, they wouldn’t exist 🤷‍♀️.

Doesn’t matter anyway you could have 2,000 women and 10 guys in the bar and only the 1 guy out of the 10 guys will if he’s lucky get a phone number and future date but highly unlikely.

1). Dating is non-existent for the majority of generation Z males in the United States. It ain’t much better for millennials (maybe a little better not much). Women are scared of men in the United States. They would rather masterbate than date an average guy.

I am almost for damn certain that social media has 100% negatively impacted men meeting women in real life by women subconsciously comparing the men they know via social media and OLD to men they meet in real life. Therefore there is no reason for a guy to go to a bar the majority of women don’t trust men they don’t know and will compare these men to men online.

No. They're not getting free/cheap drinks solely because they're women, they're just bait for men. Sexism would be free/cheap drinks for women ALL the time because the bar/club owners believe that women deserve this privilege over men, regardless of the time of day, day of the week, week of the year, etc. Most of these "Ladies Nights" are just that, on a particular day, restricted to a few hours, limits on the number of drinks, and so on. It's very clearly a tactic to pack a club/bar by enticing women (who make less than their male counterparts on avg) with a cheap night out and enticing men (who have higher sex drives on avg) with a opportunity to score.

The only way ‘Ladies Nights’ will be abolished, is if they don’t make money. Sexist or not, it’s that simple. That said if I was charged with abolishing ‘Ladies Nights’, I’d simply tell all the lads to ‘identify as women’ when ordering. Then reap the exact same benefits.
