I do not support sex work because I think women engaging in sex work is only furthering the idea that women are objects for male pleasure. And it causes men to internalize this and see normal, non-sex worker women that way.

There was a popular post on this sub last year where this guy was arguing that women should not be allowed to wear crop tops and short shorts in the summer. Because HE cannot see what’s underneath them, and so in his mind these women (who are just going about their business) were intentionally teasing him. That’s what happens when the brain is fucking fried on porn and OF models.

I would not date a current or former sex worker.

I’d probably (?) be friends with one, but there are levels to being a sex worker. Being a OF girl is completely different from being a full service prostitute where many of them are in poverty, have an expensive substance abuse problem, etc. Realistically based on where I live and what my social circle is, I would probably only ever run into a woman who does OF on the side and otherwise works a normal job.

I think it creates a culture of addiction, disrespect, and objectification. And I cannot support that.

I am a bit of a hypocrite as I did date an OF model a few years ago, however I neither expected nor wanted committment from her. We had a nice time together, but that's as far as it could go. Ultimately I was more of a relationship/marriage minded person, and I could not see myself taking it to the next level with her. And yes, that was because of the OF.

As for friends - sure. I don't care what friends do in their personal or professional life. If they ask me my candid opinions on it, they might not like what they hear. But I won't offer those opinions unasked.

You have to sift through hundreds of gross messages, often violent threats and requests to make unethical content. It can also be found through facial recognition technology and ruin future relationships and jobs.

I don’t think the work itself is a problem at all and I am certainly not concerned about any moral issues. But I think there are some very practical concerns.

The real question is how do you feel about dating someone who has videos of herself getting railed and jizzed on all over the internet basically into perpetuity (or vice versa if you are dating a guy who did porn). What are you going to tell your kids when they learn that mommy’s or daddy’s most private moments are all over the web?

The other question will be what motivated them to get into sex work? You’d be foolish to ignore the fact that many people in that industry deal with serious mental health issues.

If a woman (or man) can make money from OF/online content and transition into something with more long-term sustainability... great. (I think a lot of women get stuck in this kind of work - because it can be pretty easy money - which is less great.) I've known a number of OF/online "models" (to use the term of art), and dated a few. I've been in a fair amount of OF content with various women. I've lived in Colombia for over half the year for about six years now. Through a friend, years ago I met a guy that handled online marketing, promotion, account set-up/maintenance, etc for OF models. He'd have a couple of parties each year for his clients and, well, you can imagine. Anyhow, sometimes a client would want to make boy-girl content, but if she didn't have a boyfriend it could be complicated. She's unlikely to reach out to someone in her friends group and isn't going to do anything with a complete stranger. So, this guy would say, "Hey, I know a guy. I'll send you some photos, you can meet up if you want to, and see if it goes anywhere." And so it went. No, I never received any money. It was mostly just a bit of fun for me. Here in Colombia this business (and the related webcam business) is so ubiquitous that I bet almost everyone has at least one friend or acquaintance that does this kind of work. While the women certainly don't go out of their way to tell folks what they do, it's also not that big of a deal, as it's quite common. In many cases, both friends and family know about the work and just don't care. Ultimately, the stigma surrounding this kind of work has its roots in the religious notion that sex is some kind of purity ritual. Most people - even a lot of folks who aren't religious - can't shake this view. But in my view, sex is just an activity to be enjoyed by consenting adults. But, to each their own.

I think a society that has sex work is broken. Sex work is the commodification of women's bodies, and for it to be viable, there has to be enough men willing to purchase women's bodies. I think society needs to be structured in a way in which men don't feel entitled to women's bodies and thus don't consume porn or hire (rape) prostitutes, and where women have enough options for work outside of objectifying themselves

I do not support sex work because I think it is predatory towards both men and women. I have seen OF creators shill their stuff to teenage boys. Anything for a laughable amount of money. Same goes the other way, men having countdowns on 17 yr olds asking them when they're going to make an OF.

Overall the company should be deleted and there should be more laws in place for the porn industry that would protect actors both male and female from extortion. But overall like another poster said easy access to violent porn furthers the idea that women are objects for male pleasure.

Even those shoots where the woman has an interview after to say she consented and enjoyed it. Do you think she'd get paid if she didn't to that?

The only porn I can get behind is drawn/animated though that has it's pitfalls also.

I don't like sex work but it is often the most lucrative thing a woman can do. Happily women can now do a lot of different work but sex work might be the easiest all though very dangerous work to get into.

Also so many men crave sex but aren't really capable of being a romantic partner so I appreciate women who are willing to fill this need. I certainly don't want to.

IDGAF. I did sex work for a few years when my loans were default. It changed my entire life. I got my loans stabilized, bought a car, paid off all my roommates parking tickets (one of them had been booted), helped another roommate adopt our local stray cat by paying for all it’s vaccinations and neutering, and was still able to afford to move across the country to be with my one true love.

I don’t do it anymore because it’s a young person’s game. But I don’t regret it.

As long as it is 1. a Choice (as in, they can opt out at any time) and they got into knowing that it's not a very effective way to supplement income or lifestyle, then at the very most I worry, and at the very least, I don't care. I don't think it's the smartest decision, but I can't waste energy policing everyone's decisions. If they advertise it as this easy, money-making gig that everyone/young women should do, I would avoid them, though, since that claim is a con.

Current profession, probably not, simply because 1. I work for the government, so can't be tied to crime, and 2. My income won't support another person, so I need my partner to be able to stably support themselves. If it was purely legal and they were very well off or otherwise stable, I'd be more likely to date them.

I have no problem being friends with them. I currently have a friend who is a prostitute, and I have a few cam-model friends.

If it’s consensual and they joined because they wanted to fine do what you want. But im sure we can get in a huge semantics debate on what counts as voluntarily joining vs economics/hardships/noothercareeroptions. There is line and people’s opinion on where the line is different.

I think the existence of sex work is fine because it's a free market and supposed to be a free country. However, I think this continued narrative of all sex workers being victims is disingenuous and constantly used as a way to never hold anybody accountable for choice to do sex work.

Yes, some women are indeed trafficked but what about a woman who of her own volition creates an OF and posts ass picks on Insta for followers? There are plenty of women who, like Belle Delphine, want to try and cash out on fast money because working at Subway is beneath them. Successful guy here. Like really well off financially, looking my best, fit, active, the whole kit. You'd meet me and be like damn what a catch.

I walked into 7-11 and there were three girls behind the counter all giggling and the lady asked me out. Like that type of guy (now at least). In the hospital visiting and every nurse that walks in gasps when they see me.

I would never date a woman who has ever done any sort of sex work or porn or only fans. You are immediately a no.

Why? I see it as incredibly low value behavior. Im only looking for LTRs and I do not see that wifey behavior. So you go in the trash pile.

There are a few traits that I put in the trash pile. One is materialism. Two is strong social media presence. Three is any form of sex work prostitution or adult content. For three this includes how you dress and if you were to do any sort of adult content.

I want class, elegance. Not slut. We can fuck like animals in private, but that's not something I am at all comfortable with you sharing with others or selling yourself for money. Go find a different way to make a living that involves respectable work. That shows value, selling your body does not.

I want a wife and to be a wife is hard work. Not saying I want a traditional wife, I am saying that I want someone who can demonstrate putting in hard work. Those who seek materialistic things and do vain acts do not demonstrate that to me.

Those who spatter themselves on social media demonstrate ego issues and validation seeking. If I'm not enough validation or you can't find validation and secureness in your own self without needing that from others then you are also a no. Your mom and grandma didn't need to thirst trap guys and fill social media with photos of their tits hanging out. Neither did they need to dress provocatively to garner attention. Because they didn't need that attention. Because they were whole just the way they were.

there may be a rare person with a good heart in the industry, but there are too many nefarious actors to get involved. I watch too much true crime, i don't wanna be in shady circles at all.

and that's assuming they are of legal age and consenting, which then of course there are tons of people in the industry who are too desperate to meaningfully consent, are high/drunk while "consenting" or are literally trafficked.

this is too big of a chunk of the industry to brush it off. i think everyone in the industry needs to be grappling with these problems and figuring out how to protect the people who do not want to be in the industry but are for reasons of desperation/addiction/trafficking.

I honestly can't really find an argument against it, that's isn't also just a general argument against wage labour. We can all agree that exploitation, hostile customers, under-payment, physical harm, and so on, are bad. But none of those are exclusive to sex work.

I think one has to have very little self respect for oneself and for their future partner to be involved in the sex industry, even on an amateur level such as OF.

With that said, I am not sure women truly understand what it means to a man to have their pictures circulating the internet.

Sex is everything to a man. It is the one thing they value above everything else. From a young age we are taught to be respectful of women, to restrain ourselves sexually, to be men of integrity, etc. We don't want much out of life. But what we do want is a beautiful sexual relationship with the most beautiful woman, to us, in the world, our wife. That is the fairy tale dream ending. That is sacred to us and for it to remain that way it has to be provided to us and only us. So when a woman goes around showing herself to the world, she is taking part of that sacred aspect and diluting it. Now everyone, not just her partner, can see her exposed. It's no longer a special aspect of her that is uniquely given to her partner. She treated herself like a commodity to be shared with the world, so that is how any guy will value her.

What a guy desires, is that their partner sets aside this beautiful, sacred, aspect about themselves and give it to their partner. That makes him feel valued and truly special.

In a capitalist world, people have to make money the best way they can. For some, that can mean sex work.

My issue with it is that it's largely illegal in the USA, except for certain rural counties in Nevada where legal brothels exist. In parts of the world where sex work is legal and/or decriminalized, there's no issue as long as all parties involved are consenting, protecting themselves, and following all rules involved.

I don't have an issue with online sex work such as OF; I just don't spend any money on it. Would I befriend someone who does it? It's likely; I consider myself sex-positive, and would not discriminate against someone based on that.

Dating them, I'm leery about; in romantic relationships, I would expect monogamy, and a person doing online sex work may not be able to provide that. They may have to build (parasocial) relationships with others, which I may not be able to easily accept. Granted, I've never been offered the opportunity to date someone in this line of work, so I'm speaking purely in hypotheticals.

I dated a girl who wanted to start an OF and we made content together. The money was pretty good, and there was a certain ego thrill to getting paid for fucking a hot girl with a bunch of people watching. What I didn’t like is that she had to actually engage with these guys, respond to DMs, make custom videos for them, etc. I asked to shut it down and she did, but there was some resentment because she made a lot of money. That put a strain on the relationship that it never quite recovered from. I would not do it again in a serious relationship, but I would make content casually if the money was right.

I see it like drinking or drugs: in theory it's something that could be part of a moral, healthy lifestyle but far too often isn't in practice, and is related to so much suffering in the world (i.e. violent crime), that if by magic it disappeared the world would inarguably be a better place.

I cannot imagine being transported to a world with no concept of porn acting or prostitution and be sad for it not existing.

"Make humans unable to get drunk or high." is easily a Top 10 wish to make the world a better place, and so is "Make humans unable to get any joy or satisfaction from purchasing sexual services."

I think these industries are horrifically exploitative and have bad effects on pretty much everyone.
