Was talking with a friend yesterday about Blizzard case and a study showing that in Russia freelance women in IT earn far less than men, have fewer clients and get less views and commissions. My friend is an artist and she initially wanted to get into game industry that is also dominated by men.

Tbh I haven't thought much and gender dynamic in Russian IT when I decided to change my career, but now I wonder whether my gender will be an issue or not. I guess we'll see. From the other hand, the idea that it might be an issue makes me study harder.

Just got home from hanging out with my boyfriend and I realized once again men seem to give women they care about FDS adjacent advice.

I'm reading through all the allegations against Blizzard for sexual harassment and discriminations.

Some shit is positively fucked up. Employees were passing around pictures female employee's vagina. And the next business trip she went on with a male employee, she killed herself. The police found butt plugs and lube in the male's luggage.

BUT then you got other allegations that "women who were not huge gamers or core gamers and refused to party with the other employees were 'left out' and treated like outsiders."

And I'm like ??? No shit. You work at a gaming company. Of course people who love games are gonna connect with others who love games. I feel like a lot of the promotion discrimination has a lot to do with this too. The women that work there seem disengaged from the gaming scene.

Being overly skinny is just as bad as being obese or having fat in the wrong areas. While I personally don't fine either sexy, I am against fat shaming and skinny shaming. Many people don't seem to realize that a person's body composition comes not only from what they eat but also their hormones and genes. If an woman is obese despite eating a normal diet, its because of those things, same for a man. I know the fitness industry likes to say body composition is all because of due to diet and exercise and I get that fitness influencers don't want to admit to taking illicit substances but ffs, people seriously need to wake up.

CMV: People need a mix of both "masculine" and "feminine" qualities to be a complete and independent person, and people who lack the opposite traits of their gender are more dependent on needing a partner to make up for them so that they're more complete as a couple.

Male Example: A man who is assertive and aggressive, yet also nurturing and compassionate. Men who lack the latter traits end up appearing abrasive, mean and cold.

Female Example: A woman who is is caring and compassionate but also stern and confident. Women who lack the latter traits end up appearing weak, wishy-washy, or cave in to pressure.

My hypothesis is that both who lack the latter traits in both examples will be more likely to seek them out in a partner as they are relatively unstable without them while people who have mixes of masculine and feminine traits are more independent and fit in well with members of both sexes.

We watched S1 of Never Have I Ever on Netflix. For a teen dramedy, that show was pretty good/refreshing. I had a hearty laugh every episode.

I’m not Indian but related in some ways to the main character. I wasn’t as bad-tempered or non-reflective as she was but I was a “nerd” who also had an “arch nemesis” lol. And who was secure and able to laugh at ppl levying jokes or insults my way and dgaf what most ppl thought of me, at least not in any way that meant I would be “walked all over.”

I was talking to this 3/10 on a dating app and we got on the topic of nice guys after we talked about a mutual friend. I asked her if there were any redeeming qualities about my friend to which she responded “he’s really nice”. Obviously I take that as a dog whistle for boring but I prod a bit and ask “do you actually meet guys who aren’t nice”. She responds she meets a ton of them in her daily life and I ask how they usually treat her. And then to no ones surprise, she says “fratty and stand-off guys are different than nice guys”.

This 3/10 chubby faced girl says dudes aren’t nice but hangs around frat dudes a lot. How can someone have such little self awareness. And then I have no clue what she means by “stand-off-ish” but I didn’t prod on that part.

Lesson: when she says she likes nice guys, she means Chad who is nice to her, not your average nice guy.

Why you shouldnt care about the risk of making a woman uncomfortable from hitting on them

Disclamer: Im not saying you should go out of your way to make them uncomfortable.

People act in their own best interest. When women say they dont want guys approaching them in public, this is coming from their own self interest. They want to make their viewpoint the societal status quo, because the more men who believe this, the less will approach them, and being that the circumstances in which a guy she would want to approach her in public is rare, women gain far more than they lose from this standard. And this is before you get into all of the women who truly dont want any guy approaching them in public, and that the highly desireable men who women are most okay with approaching are going to get pretty explicit IOIs telling them to approach anyways.

So, being that women do all this in their own best interest, without regard to men, even at the detriment of men having an even lesser chance of being sexually/romantically successful and all that results from that, I argue that you disregard what is in women's best interest, and not care about their slight discomfort, and do what is in your best interest, as they are doing the same thing. Remember "no one owes anyone anything".

If you never ask, the answer is always no. The odds of winning the lottery are several hundred million to 1, and people spend billions on lottery tickets a year. The chance of an approach being successful is far higher than that. Im okay with risking the slight discomfort of a woman for the potential gain of finding a sexual or romantic partner due to it. If you truly have such a crippling averse reaction to a guy hitting on you in good faith, then you probably shouldnt go in public.

Caveat:

Follow the law, dont continually harass a woman after she has made explicitly clear she doesnt want to talk anymore.
