I'm six feet tall and relatively ordinary looking. I've never had any trouble dating, but that's probably because I'm athletic and many athletes are tall men. We socialize and play together. I don't know if I would have the same attention if I were introverted and bookish.

Either way, tall women do not struggle with the same obstacles short men do. They are not equal. Thanks to the modeling and women's sporting industries, tall women who are even moderately attractive are sometimes icons, not dealbreakers.

There are comparatively fewer short male icons.

Without delving into the why's, I think a lot of men just prefer to be with someone shorter than them, because the opposite tends to be true.

My take as a short guy:

Dating is probably harder for above average height women than below average height women, but the sweet spot for female height in dating is probably average +/- a couple of inches. But most men would absolutely prefer to have a woman they physically overpower, and guys who deny that are either ignorant or malignant in doing so.

I think both men and women generally prefer to maintain the male-taller norm, but men are more likely to have a preference for a taller partner than women are a preference for a shorter one.

Lastly, I actually do think most men who are adamant about not dating tall women are doing so out of some sense of emasculation or “intimidation.” But I think the same applies to women who are adamant about not dating short men—usually they are doing so out of insecurity in their femininity. For whatever reason, the discourse usually emphasizes women’s personal preferences when they don’t want short guys, but when men don’t want tall women it’s usually about his insecurities. Although the latter is accurate, I think it’s unfair.

Obviously I’m inherently biased by stature here so I welcome disagreement and engagement if you have a quibble (or more).

Yes men are attracted to shorter woman as well but it is no where as much as the reverse, even a really tall women 182.88cm(6ft) has a lower chance(52.18% acceptance) of being rejected for their height that a slightly below average (170.18cm) 5'7 man(35.62). I mean, you could go for a taller guy or a shorter guy who doesn't care.

That's not the right way to look at it. Men are attracted to both short; medium and tall women. We just go for women shorter than ourselves because we know women are very shallow about height. Every guy knows he's gonna get rejected by asking out a taller girl.

This is objectively untrue. Studies have shown just over half of men do not care about a woman's height (or prefers her to be taller). In addition, there is also no correlation between this preference and the attractiveness of the man.

This is a stark comparison to 95% of women who prefer the man to be the same height or taller, and the importance of height does correlate to a woman's attractiveness.

Anyone who says men don’t have height preferences is a liar or delusional. The difference is that the “preference” is 1) not as strict as women’s height preference 2) the amount of women that fall outside of men’s height preference is astronomically smaller than the other way around.

Never bothered me when the eye level ones wore heels so they looked taller. It's the really short girl's I was adverse too. Like I'd prefer a girl be able to reach stuff without me having to get up and get it.

Standing sex is so much more comfortable the closer you are in height.

As a tall woman, I have been confronted with this preference my entire life. Men I’ve been interested in have rejected me for my height, actual partners have voiced that they wished I was shorter, guys have been negatively commenting on my height and how it makes me unattractive/undesirable since 5th grade.

Men like to virtue signal and say they don’t care about height, but that’s because the average female height is 5’4” to begin with. When actually confronted with choosing between a tall woman and a petite woman, they would prefer the petite woman.

I don’t think this is a problem, I understand the preference and attraction. I simply date men that are taller than me to avoid any issues

I’m 5ft 2, I once was getting along really with a guy in our early 20s who was 6ft 4 (more or less, I can’t really remember) we were introduced by friends at a meal. It wasn’t a blind date or anything, this was just one of those rare occasions where you seem to click with someone new face to face.

Suddenly half way through us having a verbal conversation we are having across the table, he randomly realises - and blurts out - that he couldn’t date someone of my height because he would find the height difference embarrassing in public. It had nothing to do with the conversation we were having.

Our whole table stopped talking and turned around. It was a really weird and awkward moment. Specially when the pick me girl at the end of the table said “Yeah, leave the tall men to us tall girls, why is it always the pint size girls who get the tall guys” etc.

I have stopped going out on dates with guys over 5ft 11 because that experience has always stayed with me. I felt ashamed as if I did something wrong, even though I didn’t, it’s just scared me off so it doesn’t happen again.

Back when I was in college, I dated a guy who was the same height as me (5''7). I had no problem with his height...but boy did he have a problem with mine! Once we were going to a party and he insisted I wear trainers instead of heels so I wouldn't be taller than him. When he said no, he threw such a fit that I agreed just to call him down.

A lot of shorter guys think their issue is their height but it's not...it's their insecurity about their height. Anyway, after that I said I'd never date a short guy again and my new boyfriend is 6''7 (he's Dutch lol) so there.

I am 6'8" and have never sought out a woman based on height. But it is more common for women to be on the shorter side and as a result the tallest woman I've ever dated was 5'5".

The thing about height is that at a certain point, body proportions start getting weird looking. For men, that starts closer to 7’ and for women, it starts a little over 6’ imo.

Im 5’7 and very fit. My wife is 6’0 and also very fit/curvy. I can’t tell you the amount of times cashiers have tried placing the little stick to separate our groceries haha. To me what society sees is amusing because I know what/who we are. Despite our physical differences (including background/ethnicity) it worked out, and we play into traditional gender norms to an extent. We’ve known each other over 11 years, met in college, decided our senior year to settle down. I dated 5’0-5’8, and 6’0 feels no different—except when we kiss I have to tilt up. That’s the only discernible difference I can think of, but it has never felt weird. I pick her up and chuck her around. I’m also very much a dom, and she’s very much a sub, but you wouldn’t know or guess that if you met us on the street. Love is love.. fuck the norm, make up your own. Also, “Tall woman deactivate the male protective instinct.” Nope, she’s mine to protect and take care of. You just haven’t found “the” guy yet. At the end of day everyone has insecurities and preferences. I just don’t give a damn and neither does she. For the record I chased her, then she chased me to settle down haha. We both had plenty of options, but only felt love for each other. Screw the voices in your head and societal noise, live your life.
